The Firs

One of the best places I stayed in. Elegant colonial bunglow setup. The rooms were well maintained, had lovely views, and very comfortable. The staff were so very helpful. I especially appreciated that they let me check out on trust despite there being an issue with my bank for the payment. I was allowed time to return home and make the payment making my rest of the travel stress free. Their food also was top quality

A very quality stay. The place is a former holiday house of Sri Lanka‘s (independent) first PM. It‘s a good, sturdy house whose architecture is influenced by that of England (a common thing in Nuwara Eliya in general). Our room was spacious, had a very nice view on (I reckon) their garden. Or, some plantation. Anyway, it was green and beautiful and moody (because it‘s raining pretty much non-stop in Nuwara Eliya). Bathroom was big and clean and with hot water. There was a bathtub beside the shower but we didn‘t give it a try. It felt like we were the only visitors and the guys were cooking just for us. Kind of a private chef experience. Food was good. However, don‘t take their Full English Breakfast option — it was mediocre at best. Their Indian and Lankan options are 10x better.

It is a small property with some 5 rooms and I think they can accommodate approx 14-15 people at the same time. We received a very warm and friendly welcome. We had a wonderful room with all amenities we could wish. Since it can be cold at night we even had an electric heater in the room. We decided to have dinner in the hotel which we enjoyed very much. Service by the staff is commendable. Also the breakfast the next morning was fantastic, with freshly squeezed juice, fresh fruit platter, pancakes with butter, jam and marmelade and eggs any style one desires, plus of course coffee or tea. The management was very helpful in arranging a chauffeured car to take us from Nuwara Eliya to Tangalle on the south coast. From the hotel we walked all around the near-by Gregory Lake. We enjoyed the view from the hotel over the surrounding area. We can definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys a stay in "style".

Can't really think of anything as also the WiFi worked very well at this property contrary to many other places we stayed.

The Room was very comfortable. We were welcomed with a cup of tea by the managed Yash... He guided us on how to reach the property. Food was delicious, the best we have had in Lanka past 2 weeks. From American breakfast, lunch and dinner too. In the evening I was given training to play billiards by the friendly hosts Sudarshan and Yash. The room was spacious, comfortable bed, a heater which kept the room warmer. It has a good bathroom with a spa bath tub. Just stayed for a day but it was a 5 star treatment and we enjoyed our stay there. Yash was helpful in advising things to do in Nuwara Eliya and he could arrange local trips and site seeing around.

We were out of words when we saw the first view of The firs as we drove through the drive way at night. We stayed at The firs for our honeymoon, so the very first days as a couple it was the best place for us. The room, the facilities and the nature, the hospitality by the staff I didn't hear the word NO for whatever I asked. Special regards to the cook who cooked delicious food we had sumptuous food it was tasty and hygienic also. It was home away from home. Next time i will visit and exclusively stay here with my whole family and enjoy the ambience. Special thanks to the manager Sudarshan and hats of the to all the staff who were very cordial and customer friendly, they made our days better.

The location is exceptional. It is on top of the hill in Nuwara eliya. It is close to Gregory lake too. The room had a quite vintage style look. It had a very nice balcony which provided the view of tea estates. The outside view of the house is full of gardens and flowers. The food was excellent. Indian breakfast was also provided. It is close to Nuwara eliya town. It has a good bathroom.

Our recent stay at Firs was nothing short of excellent. The room was spacious , well heated, and comfortable with great amenities .The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the spa bath, which we enjoyed immensely. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, who were friendly and were always willing to help us . Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Limited hot water.

Worth every penny, heritage building is spiced up with modern comfort, even simply staying within the hotel compound counts as sightseeing. Service easily meets international 5-star standards, and the surrounding flower and tea gardens, mighty firs, and hills bathing in clouds will make you feel disconnected from the current world reality. On the other hand, if you need to connect, their wifi works great.

The only concern we had was the approach to the Front entrance where a series of steps have to negotiated which could hamper anyone with limited agility
