Altstadt Hotel Stadtkrug

The location of the hotel could not be any better. Even though it doesn't have its own parking, the external parking is really very convenient. The receptionist was unbelievably polite and helpful. The first hotel in a long time where we were not concerned about higiene at all - the cleanliness was perfect. The wifi was super fast, the room was generously equipped. A fantastic hotel that I can only recommend.

The breakfast for 17 EUR is a bit of a rip off. An average dinner in downtown is cheaper than that. Given a well equipped kitchen in the room and a supermarket 10 steps away, you are just better off sorting out your breakfast yourself.

The location of the Stadtkrug was perfect because it was on the main pedestrian street yet was so quiet. We slept well at the Stadtkrug. The breakfast was very good with many selections and a very nice coffee machine with many choices. We would definitely stay at Stadtkrug on our next visit to Salzburg.

We didn't expect to go up and down stairs to get to the reception area or to access the breakfast area. I was not able to roll my luggage to the reception desk. There was an elevator to get from the reception desk to the floor where my room was located, there were steps to go down to the level of my room. We are fine with going up and down stairs but might not be able to in the future. We don't know if there are accommodations for people who cannot negotiate the stairs.

What a lovely hotel - located right in the old city on the second most popular shopping area (East side of the river). Its in a very old historic building that has a wonderful ambience. The interior is on various levels and the corridors seem to have no fixed direction - the lift will take you to every floor. Our room was great, the fittings were in keeping with the hotels nostalgic feel and of high quality. The room was cleaned exceptionally well. The staff at the reception were mega! Friendly and helpful they made the stay that much better. The hotel is located in an excellent location - every place to visit in the old town can be done on foot. The room was very quiet and the street is very quiet after the shops close (at 23:00 the outside tables are no longer used in the restaurants). The breakfast was very nice and is served in the hotel restaurant (which is also excellent) - we will check if its available again the next time we are in Salzburg.

The hotel has no parking and the local parking house was totally full (we had to wait for someone to exit before we could get in) - it was Festspiel time in Salzburg. Its a 400m walk then to the hotel through the very busy pedestrian shopping street. Taxi's can drive through the pedestrian streets if your cases are too heavy. Parking costs are normal for the center of town (so quite expensive €18 (reduced price) per day from the hotel). The reception is not available 24 hrs (after hours there is a hotline instead. Otherwise we had a nice stay.

The location was perfect for exploring Salzburg during the day and night. It was close to Mirabell Palace so that we could go see a performance of Mozart’s music in the marble hall in the evening and it was a great spot to start the day to walk across the river into the old town shops and restaurants. We walked from the train station easily but you could also taxi if needed. The great variety of bars within about a block or two were all gems and the location made it easy to stroll home. The breakfast in the morning always got us off to a perfect start. The staff were all incredibly nice and a friendly smile to greet you including at the restaurant which had great food and drinks too!

The only thing I’d recommend is providing conditioner and lotion instead of just shampoo and soap. Otherwise everything was perfect.

We loved the location in the old town and the atmosphere within the hotel. The room very satisfactory and spotlessly clean. There was air conditioning, a fridge and a safe which all helped toward a very pleasant stay. Also there was easy access to the garden area at the back of the hotel. The windows opened easily on to a very quiet area.

It would have been nice to have had tea and coffee making facilities. At breakfast the choice of cooked food was very good. However we would have liked more choice in the fruit salad (already portioned outing glass containers) and meats and cheeses. But on the whole an adequate breakfast. Thank you.

Location is superb! Centrally located in Salzburg and within easy walking distance to most sights or restaurant options. For vegetarians (particularly those not eating eggs), the standard breakfast options will not work. However, you can substitute other items like a cheese plate, so still a decent meal! The staff were accommodating and allowed me to check in early and provided alternatives for breakfast.

The room didn't have A/C. It wasn't advertised to have it, so I suspected this was the case. It was definitely hot when I stayed and did feel it in the room. The rooms do cool down at night and have windows that can be propped open. The room I had (meant for 1 to 2 people) did come with a fan. The room itself felt rather small but for a solo traveler, it was enough.

Central location in the heart of town, which I thought may be noisy, but the double windows locked out all the noise. The apartment in the hotel was spacious, comfortable and very clean, and were able to prepare simple meals here instead of eating out every night. Staff were always willing to help with whatever we needed. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Older travellers, just needed assistance with one flight of stairs with our suitcases, but staff very willing to assist.

We stayed in the 2 bed apartment with our 2 children. The apartment was perfect for our family - great space, a good kitchen area, pleasant sitting area in the main bedroom and two good size bedrooms and en suites. The location of the hotel is exceptional - Linzer gasse is a lovely street with lots of shops and cafes and not many cars. It is a short walk to most of the main sites in Salzburg. The staff were friendly and helpful and the accommodation clean. We would definitely recommend.

The hotel could not be better situated, squarely in the historical center of Salzburg. The rooms we stayed in were spacious and quite tastefully decorated in a style befitting the age of the building. The noise level in rooms which are facing the street can be a challenge for light sleepers, but this comes with the territory, and is by no means the hotel's fault. In any case, we found the noise to be easily blocked by using regular ear plugs during the night and in fact had a very pleasant night of sleep. We did not have breakfast at the hotel, but did swing by the bar for a night cap, where we were very friendly received by the hotel personnel. All in all, a very good stay.

One single issue to report under this category, which I am putting on miscommunication rather than ill intent. When we were checking out, we found out we had been mistakenly charged 60 euros for an extra bed when none had been requested or used. In the same vein, we were charged three parking fees even though we had only come with two cars. I really believe this was due to a confusion, as we smoothly sorted out the problem at the front desk.

Great location, no attractions were more then a 15 minute walk. Old hotel with a lot of charm. One of my sons was not feeling well and front desk clerk was very accommodating trying to find a doctor/clinic to take him to.

I was in the apartment on floor one. Layout of bathroom was a bit awkward, especially the toilet. Shower/tub combo was difficult to use without water bouncing outside the tub area. Host for the restaurant for the dinner seating was a bit rude in telling us there was no availability.
