Hyatt Hotel Canberra - A Park Hyatt Hotel

Hyatt Hotel Canberra is about to celebrate its opening centennial anniversary in 2024. You can feel the sophistication and romanticism of past times while enjoying the contemporary comforts of a perfectly managed hotel accommodation. Staff were exceptional in attending to and accommodating our requirements. Comfy rooms although the beds were a tad too soft for our taste. Easy parking, great location too. We stayed for Christmas and we couldn't be happier.

We enjoyed the quaint architecture of the building. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful and we liked seeing Ruby, our server, at dinner in the Tea Lounge. The rooms were comfortable and the showers had very hot water. We were able to walk to all of our sightseeing spots, which made the location perfect!

The food took a very long time to come our table for dinner. I believe we waited over an hour both evenings. And they changed the menu twice, so when we wanted to order our favourites from the night before, we couldn't. The poor staff didn't know what was going on. The kids' menu should have been offered much sooner, as we didn't realize that was even an option. The hotel rooms could use a deep clean, like the doors and baseboards and such.

Location

The Hyatt Canberra was well known for its class, style and quaintness of the bygone era. It was disappointing to see the removal of the red carpet from the front entry stairs and no Hyatt staff member dressed in 'Plus Fours' to greet guests on arrival. These small touches set it apart from other hotels particularly noting the history of the venue. The breakfast venue was like a 'feeding at the zoo' with no quiet areas to relax, unwind and ponder the day ahead. In a nutshell its lost its charm compared to other Hyatt venues across the globe such the Hyatt Goa.

The room & bathroom was spacious & soundproof. Great high ceilings & blockout Curtains. Plenty of Pow/pts. Curtacy condaments & coffee machine were good. Great to have a fullsize desk! & security safe. The daily room service was a treat. Excelent buffet breakfast & nicely prepared dinner meals in Tea room. Service was always high in priority. All staff appeared to be well trained & curteous at all times. The Club house with Pool, spa, sauna & Gym really added to the relaxtion of the whole stay.

Not a great deal! Ducted Air-con above beds was a little noisey at night even on low. The bathroom needed an extra towel rail at normal height. Dinner menu in Tea room could do with some cheaper fish options.

The hotel has a lovely but understated ambience in its public areas. Early checkin was appreciated as always, and the receptionist was friendly. My room was very nicely decorated and the bathroom was so gorgeous I wanted to spend all my time there. Amenities were generous. Room service was delivered promptly and was enjoyable.

At first I thought my room was brilliantly located, but as the night wore on it became a bit annoying. There was a Gala ball being held and this meant there was a LOT of chatter and foot traffic which seemed unusually loud. A door right outside my room which I assumed was a storeroom was being opened and closed constantly during the night. On checkout I jokingly said that my room must be the one they give to people they don’t like. It highlights the soundproofing issues that are faced in old buildings.

The hotel is beautiful and in a wonderful location. The grandeur and decor really sets the tone, and the room itself was generously proportioned. The bathroom felt like real luxury. The staff were very friendly and so helpful. Nothing was a trouble to them. The food at breakfast was fantastic. When ordering room service and extra water it was delivered very quickly and by very polite staff.

Finding our room was tricky, involved a long walk then downstairs and back up again, but that comes with an old heritage building so unavoidable. We had to ask for directions to the pool as we couldn’t find it. This is a very minor inconvenience, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Location was excellent for us as outside town but close to the lake and museum/library. Staff were exceptional, definitely a 5* service. Our bedroom and bathroom were spacious, although the balcony was a little small and no real view.

The only negative we have is the cost of the buffet breakfast. We believe that £40 per person is very steep considering the evening meal was only £70 for two with drinks. Yes there is plenty of choice but we have never had to pay this much at any of our hotel stays in Australia.

Absolutely love the hotel. It is a grand hotel with beautiful decoration and style. Restarant is very stylish. Spacious room and high standard service.

All are good except we requested to add on a roller bed but it hasn't been arranged until nearly 10 pm at night after my a few phone calls. Understand the room service staff were super busy, but 10.00pm is really a bit too late because we actually checked in around 4.00pm and the extra bed was required when I booked the hotel a few months ago.

The room was very spacious and luxurious, bathroom was awesome and clean. I booked a second room for my family and they had an extra bed that the staff kindly organised and they enjoyed it.

I didn't like the buffet dinner. The service was pretty average @ $90 each I would think the price would include a soft drink but we had to pay extra for that as well as having to find someone to order it and ask for table water. The food was average, breakfast was better but still over priced.

We stay at the Hyatt every year on our wedding anniversary. It's a lovely old hotel in a great location. The beds are exceptionally comfortable, the rooms are spacious, and the food is very tasty.

We booked a 'park' room this time for something different, not realising that 'park' means at eye level with the car park. We felt like we were in a zoo, with anyone on the street having a direct line of sight into our room. The staff were lovely and let us move to another floor. Though the room we were moved to had a faulty toilet, it was still nicer than being looked in on by passersby. The hotel is nice, but it was the little touches that kept us coming back year on year, and those were sadly absent this year.
