The Elms Hotel

I've never visited Retford before, however I'm very glad I did, especially after staying at the Elms. A warm welcome greeted me at reception, I was then shown to my lovely room which was located in buildings adjacent to the hotel. This was well laid out, clean and with a very comfy bed, as well as being far enough away so as not to be disturbed by the footfall from the hotel restaurant, which I can also highly recommend after having dinner there with guests. Breakfast was plentiful and great value for money too. Overall a great stay made even more so by genuinely friendly staff.

The staff were fantastic, amazing food and downstairs is beautifully revamped, I’m sure the bedrooms will be amazing when they’re done too. The rooms were sufficient and staff were very accommodating making me a lighter breakfast.

As I said it’s obvious the hotel is being revamped a room at a time so please don’t take this too personally, my only real negative was that the mattress and pillows were lumpy and not too comfortable. I’m sure once the bedrooms are done it will be amazing! I will happily stay again.

Stopped here last year and enjoyed the hotel but this time it was great, the new owners are fantastic think they must be husband and wife, the lady owner was lovely asking if everything was OK, and waved us off the next morning, a credit too her, loved the Indian meal at night very tasty ,will definitely be stopping again, all the staff was very good and served you with a smile, great hotel

Nothing could be better with the hotel but it's abit of a walk into town if your not so good on your feet !

We stayed here after a long day at Sundown adventure land. The curry restaurant was amazing. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They were really accommodating of the children. The grounds of the property are lovely.

There was a bit of a mix up with the rooms - we needed a family room with a double and 2 singles. We got given a room with a huge double a single and double. Our children are small so we managed with one on the sofa but it could have been a problem with bigger kids. The bathroom and decor were a little dated but it was all clean.

Check in was quick and easy and staff informative and friendly. Breakfast was really good- lovely veggie option, good quality and decent portion size. Staff member at breakfast was very friendly and generally lovely. Excellent sized car park and grounds. Ate in the bar on night of arrival- staff friendly and food choices good. Would like to try the restaurant next time but we didn't have time on this visit.

The room was a decent size with good facilities but the matress was a little soft and thin- fine, but not great if you're used to a thicker, firmer matress. The toilet and sink were very clean but the shower had a slight leak and therefore a little less clean- nothing major just noticeable. Not the end of yhe world and certainly didn't impact our stay at all. Both issues were minor - we would definitely stay again.

Brilliant staff, the location was very nice with alot of amenities around. The grounds are beautiful and the food was amazing, particularly the Indian restaurant.

The room was abit run down. Light bulbs missing, mouldy shower curtain, old shower bottles attached to the walls that were empty and mouldy. Family of 4 that had to make do with a king size bed and a single bed but the booking stated a double bed and double sofa bed.

Excellent value for money comfortable bed plenty of parking and good location very friendly staff from an family run hotel and a good hearty breakfast

Only a minor grip the room showed signs of general Wear and tear paint flaking off the bathroom ceiling and a damaged but functional toilet button did not interfear with our stay and we are swear the new owners have not had the property all that long so assume is part of the renovation

The location was perfect to where we needed to be. Clean. Quiet and a nice walk into town

Whilst the room was clean and comfortable..I thought the room was going to be bigger judging by the website. (Shared room with my father.) thought there was bath. Needed spoons for the tea and coffee . Having said this. The stay was enjoyable and inwpuld stay again

Hotel staff were extremely helpful and helped all the family members. The Hotel staff even arranged a separate room for our evening meal at short notice. And we could not fault the evening meal both the pub grub and Indian meals, excellent food.

Rooms are in need of refurb and could be upgraded, we were told that this is work in progress, but I felt this was reflected in the price you pay. The rooms were clean.

Location was excellent, room good size ( in the stables). Very warm welcoming. The pub rates are excellent, definitely value for money. Asked for extr pillows, these were delivered extremely promptly.

Some Minor cosmetic upgrades throughout are required. Another light at the wardrobe area would be a great benefit
