Hotel Abando

We highly recommend Hotel Abando, This hotel in the New town, unbelievable great location, easy walk to all famous places, shopping and restaurants. When you walk out the hotel, turn left you got all sorts of stores, cafes and restaurants, the staff are friendly and provide excellent services, good size room, great shower and excellent quality of toiletries. Bilbao is a perfect town to stroll around, full of beautiful architecture historic buildings, we would love to come back and stay in the Hotel Abando again.

Location perfect, round the corner from Calle Ledesma, best bars and pintxos. Room was big, spacious and airy. The air con was perfect, not too cold or noisy. We faced the main street and with the windows shut, it was lovely and quiet. Big towels, always a plus! Bathroom was big too, lovely size shower. Couldn't have picked a better location. Only reason not 10 was that we didn't have breakfast as we thought it was expensive and there are so many places to pick up cheap food in the area.

Breakfast seemed expensive. Slight niggle that you could hear the other rooms' water running when they were showering, etc. but that was only an issue as we were being lazy and didn't want to wake up early!

The location is amazing. So close to the tourism office and all public transportation. Close to the river. We were able to rent bikes from the hotel and ride the river one morning. The staff was quite helpful, and there was always more than one person at the desk at all times. The breakfast was amazing though pricey, but as Americans, we loved the big selection. There was a coffee bar that was open during the day, so we always had the opportunity to grab a snack or drink. The restaurants down the street were excellent, especially Garum.

The AC worked hard to cool the room the first day we were there. It was unseasonably warm. However, someone from downstairs quickly came up and explained the system.

We've stayed here three times now, it's a very well placed hotel with secure parking (€20 a night but worth it if you've got a car loaded up with luggage and sundries). The shower is excellent, beds comfortable and the room very clean. Very good value for money IMO.

It was unseasonably warm in Bilbao, 16 degrees C in between Christmas and New Year, lovely for strolling around the city but our room was so hot! Had to have the window wide open all night. And (the epitome of a first world problem, I know) they ran out of croissants at breakfast! 😮. I had a small tuna crusty roll (called a montadito) instead, it was spicy and v.tasty.

Very well situated about a 10 minute walk from the Plaza Nueva and only 5 minutes from the tourist office. The rooms were nice and the beds comfortable.

We were disappointed that the hotel did not have a restaurant. The images of the hotel show menus and picture of the food but when we tried to book we were told it was not associated with the hotel, even though the entrance door was in the hotel foyer, and if you Google the hotel, the restaurant is shown under the heading of the hotel. This is very misleading . The pre paid for breakfast was expensive @ €15, especially as we found you could have a continental breakfast which would have been perfectly adequate for 4 people at a total of €14. This second option wasn’t notified to us at time of booking.

We loved the location being at the center of town, next to Old Town, close to the Guggenheim and the Bilbao Museum of Fine Arts. Also walking distance to the beautiful churches. Restaurants, cafes and bars also all around the hotel.

Everything was good! Excellent for the price! Staff especially the lady at the front desk was great. The bar was open early and late into the evening. Wine was good and inexpensive along with appetizers. Continental breakfast was great for just a few euros. Full breakfast was available also. Cabs were there in 2-3 minutes. Wonderful experience. We would consider being back and at same hotel.

Hotel was very nice,lovely welcoming staff and cafe and restaurant facilities available but we didn't use them.It is centrally located and carparking is available but not guaranteed,we got a space no problem.Shower was lovely and big and great towels too a perfect place to stay in Bilbao,walking distance to all sights,bars and restaurantsThank you to all the staff,we enjoyed our stay and will book again if we come to Bilbao again 😀

Only thing we didn't like was the room was not soundproof,we heard our neighbours chatting and singing during the night,not the hotels fault but walls are not thick enough,also felt security in reception never checked if we actually were residents so people could get into the bedroom lifts no problem without question,just a small thing but for me,it was a concern,especially at evening/night time.

Location. Great choice for breakfast and decent coffee even tho it's from a machine.

Don't know if it was just our room but you could hear the plumbing so that whenever other rooms above or beside used the water you could hear. Also above the mini bar is a sharp edged shelf which my wife banged her head on when bending down to get something. Possible to make these shelves curved?? Minor issues as all in all a good hotel in a great location. Gugginheim and old town both within 10-15 walk.

The location is great, right in the center of the city but on a quite street on the weekend. It's within minutes of many great places to each and walking to the main cultural centres is also a very short walk. The express breakfast in the lobby cafeteria was very good value for money.

The breakfast cafeteria was understaffed with one poor guy doing all the juices, coffees and pastries and also having to clear tables. Most tables were full of breakfast leftovers from other customers.

Location was brilliant and the staff excellent

The bed was very 'communicative' both in turns of feeling every move that my wife made through the mattress and having VERY noisy bed springs.... At one stage I had a bout of coughing and my wife quipped that the bed sounded as though I was a much younger man. The water system was also very noisy with a noise I originally thought was the lift everytime neighbouring rooms, or we, had a shower.
