Hotel do Mercado

This little hotel is great value for money! We were greeted by super friendly staff. We got offered a free upgrade to a bigger room and the room was really great! The beds were comfortable, the bathroom had a nice size. It is located very centrally (easy 10 min walk to the city center) but it is also kind of away from all the noise from the city center which we greatly appreciated. The breakfast was 5 star, really good!

The downside was that there is no parking. However, the hotel is right in front of the central market which has underground parking. We paid 4 euros for overnight parking which is really cheap for EU standards.

The hotel was decorated very uniquely, incorporating landmarks in the area. The towels were high quality. The best we had for our whole trip. The water pressure was amazing and the bathroom was very spacious. The location was good. It was an easy walk to the city center, shopping, dining and points of interest.

The front desk closed down relatively early and we had to use a side entrance to come back from dinner. Because the elevator was only accessible from the lobby area, we had to use the stairs to get back to our room. This could be problematic for someone who needs to use the elevator. The bed wasn't very comfortable.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean room and bathroom (toiletries provided) Great location, everything is within walkable distance. You can get 2Euros discounted price off the boat trip.

For some reason the reception closes at 20:00, but there is an emergency contact number. No proper desk in my room (Moilceiro), One of the mattresses was poor, spent uncomfortable nights. Parking is very difficult as you have to park in a public car park. Although it it is free one has to be lucky to find a free space and it is 5min walk from the hotel.

Lovely welcome by the staff. Thank you! So important! Portuguese tarts also as a welcome! Breakfast at 5 Euros was outstanding with a variety of breads, cheese, cakes and cereal and yoghurt. Fabulous smooth coffee. The room was spotless and I thought new. But no, it has just been well-maintained and kept clean. The location from the canal is just 2 mins walk and can be seen from the room. Not far to the upmarket Shopping centre/compex, if that's why you have made the visit!

The tv did not work. TV and WiFi are essential to me when alone. I was offered another room, but I had unpacked and the Reception staff's concern was compensation!

the male host was great! location fabulous, parking across street - was feee when we stayed. good breakfast for $5 euros. also has elevator, which was great!

We didn’t reserve spot for breakfast, didn’t know we needed to. the morning breakfast people I think were substitutes almost didn’t let us pay for the breakfast & seemed a little stressed. The did let us have it finally. the boat tour which was discounted thru hotel wasn’t great- the leader barely spoke to the English speakers & spent all her time with the Portuguese guests☹️

Really good location 2 minutes walk to all the sights. The staff were excellent, polite, friendly and helpful, all the reception staff spoke good English. No repletion staff after 8pm so you have to use a side door which is fine. They have an elevator which is good. My room was bright, cheerful and comfortable. Basic amenities, no fridge, no coffee making facilities, tiny TV, no chair, only 1 bedside table but was only there one night so OK. Breakfast was ample, great latte.

The room is modern and has a feel good vibe to it. The staff were very welcoming and super supportive. It gave us good hints about the whereabouts and what to look for. It is really pretty nearby and in a really good location. I would definitely stay again.

It was a bit of a nightmare to park initially, as there was some road work by the hotel, it is a one way road and there were lots of double parked cars. The double yellow lines were also already being used, so ended up going around in circles until I could park the car. (There is however free parking close by)

The hotel is located a few minutes walking from the city center and about 15 min from the bus station. The room, the bathroom and the entire building were very modern and recently refurbished. Our beds were super comfy too. I truly recommend to order the breakfast for additional 5€ - it's a buffet with bread, different pastries, oats, corn flakes, fruits, juices, milk, coffee, everyone will find something tasty. The reception is open until 8 PM but you get the keys to access the building and the room anytime. 100% recomendable and next time I'll be back!!!

Amazing value for money and excellent location to explore the town but also other nearby towns: Agueda & Costa Nova were amazing! We had one of the best meals in Portugal just a 5 min walk from this hotel and the reception staff helped us to book a boat ride which was cute but we could have skipped this.

The room and bathroom was a bit tiny (would have liked better shelf space in the bathroom).

According to the terms of the reservation, the payment should have been made at the hotel, but even before our arrival, the hotel debited the money from the card. The bathroom has a large window, so neighbors can watch you when you bathe or go to the toilet. Slippers and a shower cap are missing
