Very friendly and helpful staff. I have stayed here previously with absolutely no dramas at all with clean and comfortable rooms and had 2 nights booked again but unfortunately did not get to stay this time around as I was in a car crash on my way to check in however when I called to let them know I won't be staying after all they were very understanding and contacted me the following day to check in and let me know that they held on to my booking for the 2nd night if I needed it. I was very appreciative of their kindness throughout the process. Thank you Tides staff

Great breakfast, beautiful room decoration & friendly personnel. Room very quiet & comfortable beds.

In the beginning, it was unclear with the reception of the hotel if the 3 breakfasts were included or not in the booking.com reserved price. Our booking.com reservation was confirming that "breakfast was included" for the entire group of the reservation (2 adults+1 child), but Tides Hotel insisted that we had to pay for our breakfast. After all, we resolved the matter upon arrival & Tides Hotel accepted (upon our insistance!) to give us 2 (NOT 3!) breakfast vouchers. Thus, we had to pay a surplus of NZD 38 for the breakfast of the child.

Great pool, good location, lovely showers and amazing beds

The Christmas dinner was nice and so great it was open, but the staff didn’t really seem like they wanted to be there (fair enough), food was pretty small portions though delicious, no Christmas specials really except for a mousse which was a bit disappointing and yet the prices were pretty exorbitant for nothing different than a normal dinner - solely because it was Christmas and they knew hotel guests didn’t really have other options so they could put the prices up. Still, we were glad to eat on Christmas and the food was tasty.

The hotel is on a river across from the town centre and has an amazing outdoor area off the bar and restaurant. The room was great with a few modern touches like extra shower nozzles, heated bathroom floor and light sensor for when you go to the toilet in the middle of the night. Loved the bar and restaurant.. has a great atmosphere and staff were super friendly.

Car park gets full and we booked a spot to ensure we had a parking after going out for a few hours.. great that I could book, but didn't realise I had to pay for the booking until I paid my final bill. Not a major issue, but was annoyed I wasn't advised.

Booked over booking.com and they had the same price for a double bed or for two single beds. So I booked 2 single beds. After having booked (and paid via booking.com) they informed me that a fee for 35 NZD would apply for two single bed. I felt cheated - If the splitting costs extra then sell it separately for the higher price or mark it clearly when this option is selected that an extra charge will be raised. This was not visible when I booked. I had the feeling that they wanted to compensate for the money lost due to the booking via booking.com - this impression fits to a large pamphlet hanging in the lobby area that made remarks in exactly that direction. Look, the hotel is really fine and I am not going to vote it down... but this turned me REALLY off - and people MUST know!

The staff I met in reception and breakfast room were very helpful! Two problems ,too big bicycle (rented), early departure before breakfast were solved with a smile. Bicycle swapped within minutes and breakfast in containers by the sweet "breakfast hostess" Also the reception woman helped me book my transport from Nelson to Kaiteriteri. Allinall superb staff! Beautiful river-wiev from balcony.

My dinner in restaurant was a disappointment. Something called Israel couscous which was served to the panfried fish was totally tasteless. And even though I left all of it and told the waitress, no reaction.

The overall atmosphere of the place was truly delightful, setting a positive tone for the experience. The staff members went above and beyond, displaying exceptional professionalism and attentiveness that greatly enhanced our stay. Notably, the quality of the food and the room service provided was of the highest standard, exceeding our expectations and adding to the overall satisfaction of our visit. Importantly, the value for money was excellent, as we felt we received a superb deal given the outstanding services and amenities provided.

Nothing bad to say

The staff at this hotel are all happy and cheerful. Phillipa the receptionist was particularly helpful giving us advice on local attractions. Our room was spotlessly clean, the beds comfortable and the small things like make up flannels, usb charging points, electric shaver points, dressing gowns, quality tea and coffee. Heated floor in bathroom and electric blankets. We ate in the restaurant on both nights and had breakfast there each day. The food was well cooked and presented. The waiting staff were all friendly and helpful. There were plenty of gluten free options in the menu too. Patio doors and furniture for rooms overlooking the river.

Party doors between rooms, reduced sound proofing and we could hear the noisy neighbours when in their room. Perhaps some sound proofing could be put in the gap between the two doors.( Rm 60).

We spent one night in Nelson, Tides Hotel located centrally in city, downtown shops and restaurants 5-10 minutes walk. Hotel has a nice restaurant and bar overlooking adjacent Maitai River. Immediate access to Maitai River Walkway, which leads to the Marina in one direction and lovely countryside in the other, excellent for walking or jogging. Tahunanui Beach a little far to walk.

Room felt a little cramped, space around bed quite narrow, particularly with 2 open suitcases on floor. Some cobwebs and dust visible as were around 3-4 LED lights on the wall opposite the bed when the room was dark.

Staying at Tides was the best choice I made. It exceeded my expectations in many ways. Such a great place to stay. Value for money. I booked a river view room and it didnt disappoint. I was happy to have gotten a bottom floor room although the next level would of been just as fine with me. I loved waking up to my view, even with the rising water due to heavy rain. It was also perfect to sit outside with a glass of wine and a homemade cheese platter at night. My room also had a spa bath and I made sure to soak in it daily. Even on check out day. The perfect finish to and exceptional stay. The bed was perfect. Comfy and big. The best sleep in a long time. Room was very clean and tidy. The saff were exceptional, friendly and accomodating. Now for the food because I love food haha. The choices on the menu were great. If i could of I would have eaten so much more. I love how there is a choice for sized meals ranging from small plates to big plates. I had the Scallop and Prawn Tortellini with Lemon Butter sauce, Garlic Bread and Lemon Eaton Mess for dinner and the Brioche French Toast with Caramel sauce for breakfast. Loved it!!! Location is the best. Close to town, easy to get to. I have found my favourite place to stay in Nelson. I will be back and I will definately recommend to anyone looking for accomodation in Nelson.

There isnt anything I could fault for my stay.
