Hotel Van Walsum

They realised a nice breakfast with my diet - wishes. And also i asked for a quiet room, and it was as quiet as it can get! Therefore had a great sleep. Good services.

Communication in advance about work at the roof was a bit unclear.

Very clean room even though we didn't get the room that was featured in the photos. Elevator access, location near tram / bus stops, easy to spot, most of the staff were warm and friendly, appropriate heating facilities, refrigerator, safe, lots of sockets where we can charge phones, coffee and tea making in the room facilities. It was possible to open the windows which we find important given an air-borne virus causing the pandemic. Appreciated the twin beds which aren't always available at other places. There was an in-room breakfast option but just decided to eat at the breakfast area as there weren't much people (I think the hotel also manages the time slots for this, so good job). Nice hotel design, appreciate the effort to renovate and make it modern given that I read it is an old hotel. Keep up the good work! :)

When we were checking in, we asked about the deposit as it was stated in the Booking.com policies. The person in-charge at check-in said it wasn't needed and if we break something in the room, we will just be charged EUR100 minimum and if we don't pay it, the police will be called. We weren't looking to break anything and just wanted to follow the policies so this reply felt a bit like an accusation and probably could be said better. But I did read that the Dutch has a tendency to be quite direct and maybe this is one example of that.

This family-run hotel in the heart of Rotterdam is lovely. The room we had was enormous with high ceilings and comfortable chairs to sit. The bed was very comfortable and the entire hotel is sparkling clean. The breakfast is excellent, with lots of choice including bacon and eggs, cold meats and cheeses, different breads (including a toaster), fruit, juice, multi-coffee maker. One of the things we enjoyed the most was in the evening we were able to order from the bar (behind the front desk in the breakfast room), and we were able to order their daily soups and breads for dinner. The staff were universally friendly and helpful.

I stayed in the flat, which has a separate entry from the hotel. It has plenty space, a pleasantly decorated living room along with a desk for work corner/office, a big sized bedroom with as many cabinets and wardrobes as you would need, a dining room with a great view towards a peaceful courtyard, and a kitchen with everything you need (from dishwasher, fridge, freezer and washing machine to any detail you can think of, such as dishwasher tablets, fancy coffee machine and a bucket full of coffee pods, a variety of teabags, plates and pots and pans, ....) Very peaceful in the night. Bed very comfortable. Dining room pleasant (both the view outside and decoration of the room) to enjoy your home cooked breakfast / lunch / dinner / whatever you are up to. Wifi has strong signal so working in the flat is no problem at all either. I had almost no interaction with the hotel itself, but any interaction with staff was pleasant.

We were on an exhibition at Ahaoy and for us it was perfect going by bus directly to the center and back to the hotel (station directly in front of the hotel!). Lot's of good bars and restaurants around, public transportation (bus, tram, metro) all in the vicinity of the hotel. The transport to Central was also very short and the possibility to reach all the touristic places is given. The room size was 'normal' for old houses in Netherland's cities...it was quiet and clean. No complaints on that. The breakfast was very good - we had really more than everything we needed! So, all together - great time there.

Have to lie when I write something... Maybe the missing possibility to store your clothing somewhere - you have to 'live out of the luggage'. But that's not a big problem for just a few days.

The hotel is within walking distance of all attractions in Rotterdam. We were greeted very warmly when we arrived at the hotel. Although the hotel is undergoing renovations, there was no noise to disturb us. The room we stayed in the first night was facing the road, so we were somewhat disturbed by the vehicle noise from the road. In the morning, I reported the situation to the receptionist, whose name I learned was Saida, and asked if possible to arrange us a room without road noise. She took care of us in an extremely friendly and warm manner and arranged for us another larger and more comfortable room at no extra charge. There is a coffee machine of high in the room,also a kettle for tea. The beds are very comfortable and sheets are very clean. Just maybe an overhaul of the bathrooms would be better. Breakfast eas excellent. The breads served freshly baked and delicious. In addition, there was a wide variety of fresh products at the breakfast, all of which were very tasty. We stayed in this hotel for two days and we were very pleased. If we come to Rotterdam again, we will definitely come again to this hotel run by these friendly people. Thank you so much Saida :)

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Van Walsum. The staff/hotel were super communicative, I received an email a few days before arriving advising me that the hotel was having maintenace done and that could result in noise/obstructed windows during the day, and that if I wanted to I could cancel my reservation with a full refund up to 24hrs before check in. It's rare that you receive such honesty before visiting so I was increadibly heartened by the offer. When I arrived at the hotel the front of house staff was lovely and very happy to identify some top sights to see in Rotterdam for me. I'd happily stay here again. It's off the main touristy streets but in close enough walking distance of the main sights you may want to see whilst staying in the city.

The apartment was beautiful and huge! It was big enough for four people at least, with all the facilities you might need in a home. The coffee capsule machine was a great unexpected extra. The reception was 24hrs, so arriving at 11.30pm was no problem.

Not a problem for us but the apartment is up two flights of steep stairs; keep this in mind if you find stairs challenging.

Homely, smallish hotel. Clean, quiet with a lovely little garden sitting area at the back. The staff were excellent, friendly, and accommodating. Breakfast was good with wide range of food including fresh fruit. The location of the hotel was great. Close to the tram network and not far from the central station.

My only gripe was that my room did not have air conditioning. It was really hot whilst we were there. The hotel did provide me with a fan.

The property was really uncomplicated, concerning finding public transport or the market. There was this one really kind woman belonging to the front desk staff who was overly kind and helpful towards us, gave us all kind of tips about the city so delightful, they where all very efficient, additionally the breakfast was exquisite. Overall exceeded my expectations, never slept in such a comfortable bed for a long time. Everytime we came back to the hotel, the bed was made ugh, would totally recommend it to anyone who visits Rotterdam!!

Not all staff was friendly towards us, not all our English was perfect, but apparently someone from the staff wanted to kick out one of our friend out the hotel room, because of a misunderstanding in reference to the booking, even tho they’ve booked the night already, a blond and a middle aged man where pretty rude towards us, probably because we seemed young, nonetheless we had a great stay.
