Hotel Tugu Malang - CHSE Certified

This is our second time to this amazing hotel but sadly it didn't measure up to our previous stay. The hotel is like a museum, it is truly beautiful. Also the staff are extremely professional and do all they can to assist. The complimentary afternoon tea is great.

When we arrived they had no record of our booking. Then it was quite some time before they found us a room. Our room did not match any of the photos and was not nearly as nice as on our previous stay. The shower wasn't functional and the plug didn't fit in the bathtub. The small room was filled with signs and hotel items such that it was like being in a shop. We had no space for our belongings. The breakfast menu here is extensive and the restaurant is truly excellent but this trip the breakfast service had problems also. I've previously said this was my favorite ever hotel but I felt this time that we were stuck in a small substandard room. Perhaps they were otherwise fully booked (?) but as we are returning guests who booked for 5 nights it was certainly disappointing.

Very nice hotel, big room, beautiful pool area and good restaurants. Staff was friendly and helpful, helped us organize Bromo Tour as well as airport transport. The spa is also very nice, we had two treatments which both were really good. They have two restaurants which were both very good, maybe the menu is a bit too extensive which makes it hard to decide. A la carte breakfast was also very good. We would give a 9.5 if it would be possible since there were only two minor things we didn't like.

There were no "blackout" curtains on the windows and therefore not completely dark which made it a bid hard for me to sleep. The shower head was mounted in a strange position so that the water flow was more or less horizontally which always flooded the bathroom when taking a shower.

What a great hotel! I would return to Malang only to dine at Merpati restaurant. I'm Dutch, so we have a lot of Indonesian restaurants in NL, but I've never ever had such tasty Indonesian food. The nasi Kampur, the rendang, etc etc. All fantastic. The decor of the hotel is lovely, the location is great, the facilities such as the pool and the afternoon tea where simply wonderful. The hotel is an ocean of tranquility when coming back from busy Malang and surroundings. And also the staff is really great. There is John, who was very informative and there was, oh sorry, now forgot his name, but the cocktail shaker (who was very new he told us) who made great cocktails and also the lady at the reception who took care of the fact that we got a breakfast when leaving early for our plane. The hotel also recommended Vinny, the tour guide, and he was knowledgeable and had tons of experience in the area. We enjoyed these tours to Bromo and to the waterfalls tremendously. An absolute highlight this hotel!

We had a great time at the Tugu Malang hotel. We asked for early check-in, it was not possible because the hotel was full, but they tried their best to make us feel welcome and they gave us the room as soon as it was ready. We attended the hotel tour that was very interesting since the hotel is a kind of museum. We did the cooking class as extra activity that was a lot of fun, we went first to the market where they explained us a lot about Indonesian ingredients and street food and then we cooked together. There is a complementary afternoon tea that is really nice. The room was big and the bathroom clean and they always provide drinking water. The two restaurants are also really good. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We felt really spoiled at the Tugu Malang.

The hotel itself is beautiful with a lot of character and soul, you can get lost exploring all the different areas, corridors and corners; the deco is amazing. The staff is extremely friendly and speak very good English. There are restaurants and a bakery onsite you can use. If going to Bromo overnight, they will prepare you a lunch box. Plus also in the afternoon there are complimentary traditional Indonesian snacks and drink (ginger tea) served for the guests at the Tea Room. We liked the hotel so much, we extended our stay for 1 additional night with an upgrade to Executive Suite. I find it an excellent value for money - fully recommended.

The gym we used needs an upgrade, however this was a minor issue.

This hotel is one of a kind. Even the most basic rooms are beautiful, and the hotel is almost overwhelming in its museum-like collections of artifacts and art. The facilities and restaurants are excellent, with complimentary afternoon tea every day Most of all though, the staff are fantastic and go above and beyond. We had an issue with a late delivery of documents to the hotel that could have ruined our trip. The staff have been fantastic in working to reunite us with our property even after we had checked out. A unique experience I can't recommend enough

We adored staying at this hotel. First of all, I would like to thank the management for being eco-sensitive. I wish hotels would take exemple of you and use reusable cute little shampoo and conditioner bottle and bar soap. Everything was wrapped in brown paper rather than plastic. The complimentary sweets they gave at the end was also in recycle paper . They filled up nice glass bottle of water in our room rather than giving plastic one. This hotel just made our vacation in Indonesia so much better. What I liked so much was that it was not your generic modern hotel. The hotel has character! The pool and the building is breath taking but every hall every corridor every common rooms is unique and filled with art and history. If you book this hotel , go explore ! Take the guided tour of the hotel and learned about its history , go enjoy the complimentary free massage, taste their sweets baked on site, enjoy the complimentary free afternoon tea and coffee. We went everyday and were stunned to see that they changed the various treats everyday. All the staff are nice but then again I came to realize Indonesian are the nicest people I have met in my life. Bottom line is beautiful hotels are not that hard to find, but hotels were you create memories are, and I'll definitely remember staying at Tugu Malang all my life.

Very friendly staff, and very accommodating. When they noticed we had some mobility issues they immediately suggested to change our room to a ground floor location without hesitation. Great location for nearby sight seeing. There was a lot of historical memorabilia, beautiful rooms and flowers to see. A couple of sections were setup as a museum. Beautiful gardening. All was very clean. Great breakfast!

The rooms did not have many electrical outlets to charge your devices.

Literally everything. Absolut amazing hotel with impressive heritage. Wonderful ambiente in the city hearth of malang. Very special thanks to Anita, Indry, Sity, Ratna and the whole Tugu Malang team for giving us the greatest time ever! Special thanks also to the maintainace team for fixing the leg orthesis within no time! And the food... and the rooms... and the flowers.. and.. and... WHOW!!!

Hotel Tugu Malang is literally situated at the city center across the city hall and a few hundred meters from train station. The hotel is rather a boutique hotel and stays true for all aspects. Expect to experience authentic Javanese culture and hospitality enriched with mini art gallery inside. Staff members are amazing and helpful. Pay visit to their organic shop that also serves coffee and traditional drinks along with delish local snacks. Their Melati restaurant is something else where dishes are second to none when it comes to authenticity, quality and presentation. If you are looking to immerse yourself with Javanese ambience, look no further.
