Hotel Kipping

We needed an affordable (but not shaby) hotel close to Dresden Hbf (100m ?). And Hotel Kipping served our needs ! Room as stated on website. Although furniture looks somewhat dated, it was clean and that is most important to us. Mattress so/so (soft), but that is subjective. Breakfast area (buffet) downstairs as well as outside terrace, but both we did not use during our short stay, so we cannot comment on that (looked nice though). Friendly staff. Great for an overnight stay !

We did not use any of the hotel facilities. Only needed a room to sleep and catch a train the next morning. So no negatives to mention !

Everything except the coffee. Clean, comfortable. It was a lovely old house, one of the few pre war buildings to survive. Very friendly and helpful and only a couple of minutes walk from the station. A very easy, flat walk into the town centre and the amazing old buildings.

The coffee. It was dreadful. Standard German and Austrian breakfast coffee seems to be flasks of a very weak coffee made hours before. I guess that is the local taste but I like to be able to smell and taste coffee in my drink.

The room had very tall ceilings and came with a rotary fan in the corner, which I did not need. Staff accommodated an early check in, when I was simply seeking a place to put my bags.

I will point out two things which probably don't apply to most people. I am a large man and had to squeeze myself into and out of the shower. Also it was a rather tight fit on the toilet. I had to sit at an angle on the seat actually. Most staff were super helpful and friendly. There was one woman working alone at the front desk in the afternoon, and wasn't willing or able to take a post card for mailing. I ended up walking down toward the train station and found a mail box to use there. Lastly, I found the bed a tad uncomfortable and too bouncy. However, that is more a matter of taste and custom, so I note it, but not as a defect.

Awesome location. Walk 4 minutes across street from train station and walkable to restaurants, shopping, and 20 minutes walk to old town. Very quiet and comfortable. Good size rooms. Staff were warm and welcoming. Good a/c. Would stay again!

The beds were a little firm for me and I like a firm bed.

We stayed here only one night, on our way back home. We were a little bit worried that the proximity of the train station will disturb us at night, but in all honesty it wasn't too bad (and we are very picky about it). Yes, we could hear trains from time to time, but other than that it was all quiet. Also, the room was spacious with comfy beds. We loved the old feel of the building and beautiful doors!

Spacious, quiet, clean rooms. Location a couple blocks from the train station, with many places to eat. Easy access to transportation or walk into town - we did both.

Very helpful and accommodating staff, but their limited English and my even more limited German complicated communication on check-in and out.

Safe and good parking. A/C was great during the hot days. Easy walk to the old town- go through the railway station and then follow the walking street in the middle of shops and you are in the old town in fifteen minutes or so. Nice staff

Convenient location, friendly staff, clean place. They provided recommendations on where to eat and how to get to certain destinations. Check in and check out process was fast and easy.

Pillows were quite deflated, we had to request for additional pillows for our room.

Location is great; two blocks from the Hauptbahnhof. Room very agreeable (TV small, but OK) could use a better sitting chair. The building is "vintage," in a positive way. Views are urban, but a lot of trees. Quiet, considering the location.

Breakfast was adequate but could use a few more selections (especially in the cheese and leberwurst areas. But it was solid--in some ways better than the Sheraton.

Heating not very efficient and bathroom window needed proper shades for privacy.
