Sonesta St. George Hotel - Convention Center

Good location as it was in walking distance to the Temple of Luxor and Luxor museum. Lovely local restaurants The Lantern.. just around the corner from the hotel.

Breakfast is pretty average - cold buffet mostly premade pastries, hot food pretty average. Also the incessant tipping of staff for doing very little a bit off-putting. Happy Hour is not 2 drinks for one but buy 2 drinks and get one free.. which is weird... how do you share an extra glass of wine between 2 people. Hotel prices for food and drink really pricey compared to other hotels and local restaurants. This is a tourist area and locals harass tourists for money constantly. You can't walk outside the hotel without being swarmed by people either wanting to give you a lift or sell you souvenirs. Some locals just shout "money, money" at you. Would avoid asking hotel reception about distances to tourist spots or restaurants.. no idea and not really interested in helping.

When we arrived at the hotel expecting to wait awhile to check at in the hotel manager the said we were a day early and to come back the following day to check in !! Well we were on the correct date and he just wanted to charge for a extra night if we wanted a room, so not a good start at the Sonesta and it tainted the hotel and the holiday, we wouldn’t book there again and will be advising friends who want to go about our experience there

Wifi is non-existent, they really need to sort this out. On arrival they give you a voucher for 5gb of internet which doesn’t work in the rooms at all and we couldn’t even get it to work in the lobby. Not sure how you can be a five star hotel and the internet not work and even if it did to work, to cap it at 5gb seems strange to us. Staff on reception (with the exception of one young lady) are incredibly rude and dismissive. Also the one male waiter at the pool restaurant should not have a job, he is unfriendly, overcharged us on the bill and was condescending when we raised it. The lady who serves the pool guests and the pool attendants are amazing and we couldn’t have had better service from them!

The Sonesta was an absolute refuge for us! The relentless barrage of touts, aggressively vying for your money, begins the minute you step out in public and ends the moment you walk through the doors of this serene hotel. Honestly, the feeling of "whew, it's over!" was so refreshing that we even chose to stay at the hotel one afternoon when we were just too tired to fend them off again. It turned out to be one of the best parts of our stay in Luxor. We sat st a table by the river's edge, playing cribbage while my husband enjoyed a cigar and I a glass of wine. As the sun dipped toward the horizon the sight of sailboats setting out for cruises into the beautiful sunset was a captivating sight to watch. The hotel and rooms are decorated beautifully with Egyptian decor that makes the stay feel boutique rather than corporate. The beds are as good as it gets. The breakfast is somewhat expensive but, again, the refuge of getting breakfast without having to venture out through the "gauntlet" made eating in the hotel an easy choice to make.

We had one unfortunate experience at breakfast, sitting at a table near an area where the manager(?) gave a line of several employees quite public dressing down. It was awkward and uncomfortable for us and for those poor employees!

we have been to this hotel many times and have always been very happy.

The only down side are the housekeeping men.3 of them constantly asking if the room is ok, are we happy with the cleaning. even knocking on the door when you are having a shower, it’s constant. we tipped one man but then got hassle even more than before.

Wow! What can I say? I’ve traveled for many years, to hundreds of hotels and I’ve NEVER stayed at a hotel that checked all of my boxes when looking for comfort, convenience, budget-friendly & accommodating. We traveled here for my husband’s 35th birthday and we’re just blown away the moment we stepped on the property. We were treated like royalty! The staff here at the Sonesta St George are super kind and make you never want to leave. We got daily morning calls to check on us to make sure everything was okay in our room and to make sure we didn’t need anything. They even brought a cake to our room for my husband. Pool side drinks, food, room service and the restaurants were soooooo wonderful and delicious. Not only was every dish we tried amazing in taste, but it was affordable in price. We enjoyed the views of the Nile from our room (which they upgraded us to a suite with a jacuzzi tub on our first night), and we also enjoyed the swim up pool/bar and the views from there! Right behind the hotel you can take a Felucca boat to go cruising up the Nile for a quick trip to banana island; which was a cute experience for us. The beds felt like we were sleeping on the clouds. Some days my husband and I didn’t want to leave the bed because we got the best rest of our lives; so we’d just order room service and watch movies. The entertainment, the souvenir shops and the gym, all made this hotel a perfect fit for our needs. Special thanks to Catherine, Mohamed, Nardine, Osama, Peter and Emad for making our stay so special and being such great staff!! We will be back and can’t wait to see you guys again!

The ONLY thing I didn’t like is leaving out the hotel and being hassled by locals to ride on their horse or get a taxi. That has nothing to do with the hotel because they were perfect

Loved the location and the convenience. The staff was very nice and the concierge was very helpful.

The staff may be a bit overly nice, as they kept ringing the bell at our door and waking us up to see if we wanted coffee, tea, or miscellaneous other things. We had jet lag so our sleep was a little off and it was annoying to keep being awakened. Also, beware of the cab drivers across the street. They harassed us and when we tried to take other cabs the next day, they yelled and cursed at the other cab drivers and we had to take them again, and they cheated us. The hotel staff watched this and did nothing to help. Overall, the hotel was beautiful and we loved the location, the view, and the room, so I can’t say these negatives overrode the positives.

Permanent Care from the staff. They are Always available to support in any cases. Breakfast was excellent with homemade juices and excellent food. Every member of hotel team was smily and helpful. We've been upgraded in a very confortable room overlooking the Nile. The stay was perfect full of attention...WE were delivered fruits, cakes,water etc. ... in our room! Front desk called to check on us! Breakfast team took Care of us, director of operation also took Care of us, excursion team as well! Well, WE spent a memorable stay in a perfect hotel in a very beautiful and welcoming room! WE had everything WE need during our stay. Thank you to all of you.

Nothing to be reported, everything was perfect

High standard of comfort and service. We were located in a very nice Nile view room which overlooked the swimming pool. The room was clean and comfortable and had a TV and fridge. It was cleaned twice daily. Food and drinks were very reasonably priced and the staff were very friendly, especially Nagha, at the pool and Ahmed in the bar each night. Other staff, whose names elude me, all contributed to a fantastic two weeks here.

A small supply of soft drinks were in the fridge on arrival. There was nothing in the room or on the fridge advising that these were not complimentary. On checking out we were charged LE45 for each of the few drinks that we had taken. I know it's not much, but how were we supposed to know that?
