Riviera on Ruthven Motel

I've stayed here before, and it was worth coming back for my most recent trip. Our room rate included breakfast -- juice, toast, cereal, fruit and coffee and tea, with a variety of home-made jams each morning. It was a great way to start the day. And the bathroom was exceptionally clean. A new Air Conditioner was whisper-quiet all night when needed.

The TV was the biggest letdown. It took over 30 seconds to go from 'off' to 'viewing something'. And the remote was not at all intuitive. Sometimes it seemed to show one kind of TV guide, and other times it decided to show a Freeview TV guide, while at other times I seemed to get yet another TV channel list. Freeview totally omitted all the channels from one broadcaster (I think it was the channel 9 channels). Trying to navigate internet streaming channels (Netflix or Tubi etc) was problematic too, and I think the TV crashed at one point as it became totally unresponsive to button-presses. It's a small thing, but I hate when technology makes the human do all the work.

Convenient location in one of the town's main streets, very simple check-in process - even though we arrived simultaneously with another carload of people, we were both able to complete the check-in at the same time. Clean & tidy room. Nothing elaborate about anything, but all neat & tidy, everything there that was advertised, and comfortable beds. An unusual bonus was that the toilet was separate to the bathroom, which is standard in a house but almost never seen in a hotel/motel, so it would be beneficial if other hotels/motels adopted this practice. It certainly helps when multiple people staying in the one motel. (We were 4 adults.) The breakfast was also "as described" - a fairly standard cold buffet of several cereals, various types of bread with numerous "home-made" jams & conserves (a nice touch), tea/coffee/orange juice, and some diced fruit. Nothing elaborate, but it was clean, frequently re-stocked, and as several other people have commented, the muesli mix was quite delicious. I would both happily stay here again, & also recommend to others.

Unusual that the separate bedroom had the 2 single beds while the queen bed was in the main shared area. That was expected "as described" when we booked it. Neither good, nor bad, just unusual.

Just cereal and milk with toast and jam. The homemade jam was very good. But the rest was a little bland. I would have liked some cooked breakfast options.

The motel's location meant that the driveway was only really accessible when driving southwards and one had to leave in a southerly direction. The lack of covered parking was a concern on one night when there was a sudden storm with a threat of hail. The TV implied internet and movie options but only provided real time TV.

Maximum points awarded for NOT allowing filthy dogs. Breakfast was a bonus over and above what most places offer it was just continental breakfast but nice and welcome. Parking was fairly tight and not under cover but adequate and well controlled. Place was spotlessly clean and tidy. Although only basic services it was everything we needed and very good value for money. There is a popular restaurant and take away next door. Did I mention NO dogs?

Hard to criticise when you get what you pay for.

I had stayed there before on a previous trip and enjoyed my stay then, this time I, as expected, found that nothing had changed, still the same friendly hosts, with a host of knowledge about their city. The bed was extremely comfortable, just the way a bed should be. Breakfast was at a reasonably early time, as that days trip wasn't that long, (only 5hrs).

There is nothing negative to say about Riviera on Ruthven, despite being on a main highway, and a busy one at that, the motel has surprisingly good sound proofing.

Attention to guests' needs was super. The cleaners did a brilliant job cleaning and were also friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable, and as a bonus, the TV was big enough to see properly and easy to navigate.

The bathroom was old and lacking storage space. However, everything worked and the shampoo and conditioner were a little better than some other motels I've stayed at.

The location was great as Ruthven street is a main street in Toowoomba and if you drive either up or down it you find supermarkets, The CBD and easy route to out of town places you want to visit. There is also a Chinese restaurant right over the side street from the units. It was amazing to have a really good breakfast supplied each morning in a dining room which reminded me of life in the 1900s when people stayed in hotels with meals supplied! Very nice indeed.

The cleanliness of the room. Breakfast included, basic but good. The friendliness of the lady who was clearing up dirty plates extra at breakfast Overall presentation of the motel and rooms.

The man at the front desk was, neither friendly or rude. He just put out a vibe of I do not want to be doing this. There was a overpowering smell of bleach in the room when we first entered the room and we had to air it out.

Very clean, large room with adequate facilities. We stayed only one night but staff were friendly and helpful. Situated halfway down Ruthven Street so you are not far from restaurants/ shops. Air conditioned with lots of extra blankets and pillows provided which is always nice.

Would be nice to access streaming services on TV. Parking was a bit bizarre we had a park on the corner and other guests did not consider that they had parked us in. Make sure you use other designated parking option if you get a corner park. We were forewarned at reception though.

Wow for what we paid (special of $112/night for 2 people) I didn't know what to expect but honestly this place is magic! It's so clean, bed is comfy, it's easy to get to and parking is right out front. There's a cheap Chinese Restaurant next door and the food was nice there and the brekky the Hotel included for the both of us in the above price was way more than I expected. We had home made jams (rhubarb and vanilla, pineapple and strawberry) and they were delicious, not to mention the home made museli with coconut. Will definitely stay here again. AMAZING VALUE!
