The room was clean and comfortable and opened directly onto the garden which was excellent for access. The food was excellent and the staff friendly, welcoming and helpful.

There was some confusion when I used Google maps which took me to The Compasses in Broomfield, Chelmsford, even though I had included the village location of Littley Green. It is imperative to include the word "Inn" after "The Compasses" if using Google maps.

Everything - nice countryside location and convenient for getting to Leez Priory, the staff were very friendly and accommodating, the room was clean and pleasant, with free tea/coffee and nice toiletries in shower. We didn’t choose to have breakfast but it sounded great.

Not really a dislike, more of a tip - the lights in our bathroom were energy-saving and could take a while to get going so worth turning on a little in advance if it’s dark! Also the bedside table/crate was cool but a bit creaky, but that could be solved by shifting it away from the bed a tiny bit.

The room was very tastefully furnished with everything needed for a really comfortable stay. Everything was beautifully clean with attention to detail . The breakfast available was very tasty . We chose based on the location as we were at a wedding at Leez priory but the surrounding area looked beautiful too. The stay definitely exceeded expectations. The staff were friendly and helpful.

I would have rather had a clear vegetarian options on the menu rather than having to ask. Meat substitutes weren't offered but were flexible on options and were very accommodating.

Pub was very busy when we arrived at 4pm on a Saturday, but separate accommodation meant there was no noise. Large room with luxurious bathroom, underfloor heating meant it was warm at all times. Great beer and food in the pub and staff so friendly. Large garden, although a little wet and cold to enjoy it, and new extension looks great with outdoor terrace and patio. Will definitely be staying there again if we need to in the area.

Can't think of anything at all - a location next to Writtle University would be useful!

It was a very quiet, peaceful and beautiful location with really lovely staff. The rooms are massive with extremely comfortable, huge beds. The view out the windows was stunning, the little tea and coffee set that came with the room was decent. The shower room would be a bit better with a window in there too, but many places don't have a window in the bathroom, perhaps it's safer this way as well as it is on a ground floor (this is really just a personal preference than a necessity)! The beer garden is huge with lots of well kept greenery and dog bowls out to ensure canine buddies were well watered in the heat wave we've currently got going on including a couple of canopies so people can have shade if preferred. We both had dinner too, Gammon, egg and chips and a chicken salad, both were well seasoned and enjoyable. It was nice to be in a small and beautiful vintage local pub ☺️

One night for £85 was a tad high, but it was booked at short notice for the team so perhaps this was why

The accommodation was very good. My mother had a beautiful spacious room with a raked ceiling which also had the acessible bathroom. The bedlinens were high quality and lovely. The accessible bathroom was nicely presented which made it feel attractive and not like a disabled room so full marks there. My room was the twin which was nicely presented and very comfy single bed.

The lighting in the accessible bathroom was missing two bulbs and the owner apologised but it was a little on the dim side. There was a cracked mirror on the wall in my room which was a bit surprising considering that it was fairly expensive accommodation.

We stayed after a wedding at Leez Priory, the room was quirky with its reclaimed furnishings and very clean, there was a slight smell from the drains from the bathroom but was ok when the door was shut, and after showering in the morning the smell had gone, so maybe the room had not been used for a day or so, the bed was firm but comfy, this place is what felt like the middle of nowhere, so probably does not get any passing trade but relies on reputation and recommendation, breakfast was good.

Would have liked a pot of coffee at breakfast, or the offer of more coffee.

Very warm welcome and easy check in, our room was spotless and very modern with tea and coffee making facilities and the under floor heating was an extra bonus. Had a nice drink in the beer garden once we checked in and it was lovely and peacefull with a good choice of drinks from the hut in the garden. The evening meal was superb and good value for money. For breakfast my wife had the eggs benedict with salmon and she said it was the best she'd ever had, i went for the full english and that was just as good and very well cooked.

The only minor complaint was the sound proofing between the rooms, i was woken up at 06.20 on the Sunday morning by the chap next door on his phone but it turned out he was quite deaf and needed to shout, other than that the stay was perfect.

Staff were great. My bedroom was very nice, very well decorated, bathroom and shower brilliant, feather pillows and a really comfortable bed, Wifi very good and easy to get on. Bar brilliant, choice of beer and cider was very good. Decoration and type of old world pub was brilliant. Food was perfect in the evening and breakfast was perfect. Staff couldn't do enough for you . Pub was packed on a Wednesday even though its a bit isolated.

It rained. Portions were too big and I couldn't have a starter.

Perfect location for attending a wedding at Lees Priory - short drive and easily walkable which we did to take a nose at the venue. All staff friendly and very helpful and food and beer excellent and good value - would definitely recommend. Unfortunately they had an issue with heating - not great at this time of year - but they went out of their way to obtain a temporary heat which immediately sorted the problem. A big thank you to all the staff
