Hôtel de la Rose

Excellent location, in the centre of the old city of Fribourg and conveniently just a few steps away from a bus stop. The room was kept very clean. Helpful staff.

Can get a bit noisy outside the hotel in the evenings, but not late into the night and closing windows was effective. No air conditioning but we were provided by a small fan, which was sufficient to keep cool.

The shower stream was like a drizzle but a hursh one- (an pleassent - in our opinion) with no option to change. The mattresses was fine- in comparsent to other hotels we visited in Switzerland. But the pillows were a bit lumppy. The lighting in the room was connected both the main light and the over head light. Not possible to turn on/off just one of them.

Excellent hotel centrally located in charming Fribourg. Parking was easy - right by the door - and made even easier by the friendly staff who both ensured parking ticket and useful hints. Older hotel with atmosphere. Hotel de la rose confirms that a good hotel does not require a 500 m2 reception area. Very nicely kept and very quiet. Apparently the hotel was full, but it was impossible to notice. Comfortable room facing the Square. It was not large but with excellent view and had what is needed. Breakfast and breakfast room was fine - if you are there for several days you can also find good alternatives right next door.

Maybe the shower could do with a renovation, but it should not disturb the overall very positive impression.

The bells! Especially on the Sunday morning, they went on and on, but every 15 minutes it seems there was more bell ringing. The hotel is right opposite the Notre Dame, so it was pretty noisy. On the second stay people in the adjoining room were pretty noisy late into the night as well.

Super location - excellent for the old city. Parking easy in the square (the hotel sells you a pass for 24 hrs - but you have to ask). Very friendly and helpful reception who printed out tickets I needed the next day. Breakfast was efficient and friendly server.

Pillows are German as are the duvets. But that’s how it is. A nice view of the inside ‘courtyard’ of the hotel (sarc)

The location is great. The lady at the reception is friendly. We got an upgrade from the economy to standard room which is nice. The bed was ok, the room is ok size as well as the bathroom. It was clean (apart from the hairdryer surprisingly). We didn't have breakfast so no comments here. I was expecting much worse conditions based on the rating. Overall - it's a good value for money, taking into consideration location and Swiss prices. I would stay here again.

The room needs renovation. Everything is there (mini fridge, hair dryer, etc), but very old and not functional anymore. It's warmer inside the mini fridge than in the room and when running it heats up the room also. We were trying to unplug it, but didn't find how. The hairdryer is old and dirty. There is no central light in the room, so it's very dark at the evening. Overall - decoration, furniture, appliances are quite worn out.

Very nice hotel at a very central place, just around 50 meters from Fribourg Cathedral. The central pedestrian zone with lots of cafés and restaurants begins just behind the house. Public transport like PubliBike and busses are super close. The room was so cute and beautiful, and Wifi was strong and reliable.

With open windows, there is a lot of noise from the streets. And I don't mean "nice noise" like people chatting, celebrating and having fun, but lots of cars passing by, some of them super loud, all around the clock. When will European cities ban private cars from their beautiful city centers? I was able to park my touring bicycle in the hotel, but the storage room for this was not accessible by hotel guests, so it was really locked away from me during my stay (especially when noone was at the reception desk). Could be a bit more velo friendly, please.

- Staff went out of their way to give us a nice stay despite the lockdown: one night, as we arrived after 8pm, they provided us with a table, cutlery and chairs so we could have dinner in our room. The other night we could use the hotel dining area to have our take-away meal, in a large ventilated space with (in our case) no other guests - Rooms are comfortable and large on the Cathedral/old town side, and though it’s true as other reviewers say that you hear the church bells (and they ring at the strangest times, like 9:47 AM or 12:05 pm, with earplugs you don’t hear a thing at night. - Breakfast is not the most lavish you’ll ever see, but nevertheless all you need: great croissants, Swiss bread, cheeses and hams, and some yoghurts plus a decent coffee machine. Cereals could be better - This hotel is the best value you’ll find for a stay in the heart of old town of Fribourg, period

- Bathrooms are OK, large, all tiled, good quality, but could nevertheless use an upgrade (as in so many Swiss hotels) - It took the hotel a while to adjust to offering a service that’s worthwhile for leisure travelers in time of pandemic (what do you do when no restaurants or shops are open?), but they got there. Have a chat with the receptionist, tell them what’s important to you, and they do their best to provide the renown Swiss hospitable welcome

Breakfast was plentiful and varied. Room was quiet despite the cathedral being nearby.

There was only one coffee machine in the breakfast room which had problems on two occasions while I was there. It was also the only way to get hot water. A water kettle would have been helpful.

Room was clean and large, Hotel not far from the Train Station and was near the Old Town which was good to look around. Buses were very 5 mins so great to get around
