Hotel Liberty Self Check-In

large, clean room. Rather new.

I am all for optimization and automation… but tjey forgot to add the human touch to it… everything works w a bar code that they (the machines that run this hotel) print on a little peace of paper (and send to your email, of course). The scaners that are reading the code have to work hard to do their job… we humans are constantly in doibt if we are able to please the machines to let us use their elevators, locks, garage doors. I have never in my life used longer to figure out the shower (that was juat challenging design, no bar code required I figured). Overall, a nice experiment that I did not mind… breakfast btw was sterile but food actually of good quality. I spoted to working humans there that must have prepared it…

the self check-in will take some getting used to if it becomes a trend. We found it to be ok but an older couple came in after late at night and could not figure it out. they didn’t speak English and I didn’t speak German so it was difficult to help them. but we eventually got them checked in. the absence of any clerical staff onsite will make it difficult for some.

Very easy check-in with late arrival and early departure option - it is automatised and you do it alone in a hotel lobby on a touch screen with ATM-like keyboard. You get a barcode on receipt paper (so take a picture of it with your phone for reserve) and you get a pdf receipt/invoice on your e-mail. Breakfast is served from 6 30. The room was really spacious with many storage surfaces, bathroom was big with a jet-shower cabin. My room had access to a small balcony which looked over the main road and roundabout where you reach the hotel. Automated window blinds are operated by a switch and the room is really quiet when everything is closed. Within the hotel there is bar/pizzeria. There is parking space for motorcycles outside the hotel. They have mentioned the underground garage, but I have not used it.

Breakfast was good, average, but nothing special or overwhelmingly good.

The price and the location where ideal for me. The room had a nice little balcony that was great to hang out on. Everything is automatic and it took me a few tries to master the QR code activation. I also learned that a picture of the code on your phone works too and that was great. The breakfast was good and basic.

At first I could not get into my room because it is a little difficult to have the QR code activate. You literally have to cover to sensor with your hand first which was counter intuitive. After that it was easy.

I've been staying in the Da Vinci suite and the room was very spacious and super clean. Check-in was digital, however there is staff to help you with the procedure. Towels were replaced and bathroom accessories replenished everyday even though I've been staying there for just 2 nights.

Breakfast was OK for a few days of stay, however variety of food was very poor (three types of bread, two of them being of white flour; two types of salami and one type of cheese, no vegetables to go along; only scrambled eggs were served).

The location right after the Gotthard pass and right before the Italian border is perfect! Self check in is easy and quick. Free parking in the garage, balcony is nice and the room was nice overall. Also noticed the black out shades really made everything completely dark. Combined with really good isolated room and doors/windows made for a pleasant sleep with no noise or daylight from outside.

The balcony was a bit dirty on the floor and had a few cigarettes on the floor from other people.

Super easy access from the high-way. Uncomplicated automated check-in via a touchscreen in four languages (IT, DE, EN, FR). Handling of the locks works well once you understood the system. Quiet sleep with closed windows. It's very clean. Breakfast offers all the usual components. Easy to park.

You can't apply the usual expectations of a hotel where you spend holidays to a hotel that clearly just wants to be an easy sleep for people on the way further South, just like you can't blame a VW Golf not to have the space of a VW Passat. But please provide better brioche. That's a tiny difference in cost for a much higher perceived value.

Amazing location, few bus stops from the train, with a beautiful view, in front of a river and side by side with a very nice restaurant (it was a nice surprise). The self check in is very efficient and very good technology.

Our room had a shower a bit difficult to control, as the water flow was a bit crazy, but we found a way to manage ourselves successfully.

The location is easy to reach by car, we did not need the public transportation so we cannot comment on that. Nice to have inside parking included in the price. Rooms were nice, clean, decent size and well furnished. Bathroom also decent size, with a high tech shower (radio and a lot o programs so it was fun at least). Nice to have the small balcony as well and the air conditioning ( which in Switzerland is quite rare :) ) Personally I really liked the automatic self check-in and check-out as it was very quick, simple to use and we could do this also at a later hour when we arrived.

The breakfast was good, diverse but very basic. Walls were a bit cracked in the bathroom, one light bulb was burned and the door from the balcony was broken. Also, hate the single beds putted together - and it is even worst when these can be easily moved - are not tight together.

Contactless check in is cool and efficient even though I imagine some not frequent travellers could find it strange not to have a real person to do the check in. Close proximity to the highway. Spacious room as compared to other hotels where I have stayed.

Bed wasn’t so good - quite hard and pillow was really small + blanket was super thin. Bread selection at breakfast was really bad (only regular white bread) but other than that breakfast selection is really good.
