Hotel Rio Garni

The room was spacious & clean, well lit with a multi-power outlet bar that can be placed on the desk. Staff readily made up room each day. The location was superb, walking distance (100m) to train station, bus stop, about 300m to docks on water's edge & lake side walking. Daily for more than a continental breakfast includes a variety of breads, croissants, cold cuts, cheeses, cereals, yogurt(I think), jams and butter, coffee, espresso, milk, juices. The hotel has a relaxed setting to it, with the front desk willing to offer up restaurant suggestions\reservations, call a cab, directions or just conversation.

While not a problem for me some might find the shower somewhat snug. I was in a room in the back, alley view, quiet. When facing front is the train station lightly trafficked, quiet on departure\arrival. The street in front can experience greater traffic during commute hours but no more than just few cars, and an occasional (electrified?) bus passing by. Drivers are courteous never heard honking and always gave way for pedestrian crossing.

The garni is incredibly located, literally 10 steps from the train station and 4 minutes to the lake. Facilities are very clean and orderly. Room was very large and had great windows so you didn't hear the noise from the train station. The building itself is very pretty, beautiful old staircase. Breakfast was minimal but had everything that you needed with fresh local produce - we were also there off season, so it might be different during the summer.

This is my personal preference but I found the beds to be way too hard and no pillows (or rather the pillows they use which are basically flat). It was like sleeping on the floor, though I think this may be a Swiss thing.

Look for a room at the rear of the hotel. Rooms at the front of the hotel are likely to be very noisy due road / traffic

The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. The hotel is central, perfect for people travelling by train. Parking available on site as well. Just a few blocks to the center with lots of shops and restaurants, very close to the lake and easy access to all public transportation which is free for guests. Our room was quiet and air conditionned, The breakfasts were substantial.

I booked this hotel because it was close to the station and did not expect the room to be so up to date when looking at the outside of it. Great welcome from Giacomo and some lovely old features in the building. Room was a good size and as I said so handy for catching a train in the morning. Also good to be able to get coffee from the machine 24/7

Breakfast was a bit sparse with only a boiled egg offered as a hot dish and very limited supplies of other things,

very neat, modern and well located. Staff was very fiend,t and helpful. they have a vending machine for beverages downstairs - though it mystifies me why they couldn’t supply water bottles the room normally.

nor really a dislike - but a small issue. the aircon in our room was very no it’s - each time it shut off and restarted it made a huge shuddering noise. it wasn’t the case in the second room we had rented. so this was likely a technical exception only in our room.

Location was perfect - 2 minutes to shops and restos, 3 minutes to the lakefront Hotel is really pretty - rooms were big, clean and with high ceilings Helpful and smiling staff at the front desk Nearby parking at hotel for the car

The curtains in the adjacent room in the suite where the kids were sleeping did not close properly so there was light all night long. Noise from ambulances

This has been the nicest all round property we have stayed at in this price range on the forth week of a five week Switzerland trip. High points are the beauty and spaciousness of the hotel itself, a large well equipped modern bathroom, a larger than normal bedroom, thoughtful mirror/hangers etc. Bonus points, it’s right across from the rail and bus station but quiet! Coffee & tea 24/7 plus breakfast in a very nice setting! The staff has also be most accommodating. We arrived early and were worked in seamlessly and given great tips on what to see and how to get there.

The only thing I’d tweak would be more convenient outlets for charging devices. There are enough by the way.

2 minutes walking to the train and bus stations. During the winter season this hotel is more like a B&B. Nice breakfast and all-day-long tea and coffee! Very kind staff. The building is historic and the corridor looks like as museum.

Some floorboards were creaky, and sometimes I can hear the sounds from the next door.

Very friends staff… very clean, great location.

The bathroom is frosted glass and the walls do not go to the ceiling. Awkward as I was staying with a friend. Even if staying with a spouse, one expects a bit more privacy with a bathroom…. Especially at this price point.
