Palazzo Hotel

A birders paradise. Truly beautiful gardens. Well located in Montecasino. It does have that special 5 star sparkle, and the room was cavernous. Proximity to Montecasino is a plus if you want to catch a show or enjoy one of the many, many restaurants. The gardens are why I keep going back, they are nothing short of outstanding, and if you love birds, you will be in heaven here.

Some unpleasant front desk staff were off-putting, with a clearly evident distain for European tourists. The manager intervened and it was an isolated incident that was quickly corrected. It was, however a good experience overall.

the location is superb with monte casino just next door - great for a family stay with all the appropriate entertainment for you to chose from, plus so many superb dining options. I loved that the breakfast was a buffet but also with the option of ordering your eggs a la carte. The housekeeping lady did a great job ( i forgot to ask her name) but she was the same person throughout our stay and she paid great attention to detail. The porters and the team at the main door were also exceptional. Always nice and welcoming and eager to assist.

It is a bit put-offish when you are asked to pay a deposit for any extras (which you might not even have) at the point of check-in. in my opinion, just take the credit card details and then charge later if there is actually something to be charged. I did not like that feeling as it is quite offensive for me. The room, though clean and nice, was a bit too small for that price. if I compare it to Riboville for example, the latter was exceptional.

Beautiful, big, grand hotel with huge open plan reception. Our room was just off reception, which I thought might be noisy but wasn't. The room was clean and comfortable, with a lovely big bed and flowers. Liked the small touches like the tea and coffee facilities with the Nespresso Machine and lovely little biscuits and the turn down service each night with a bottle of water and little chocolate on the pillow. Bar prices were very reasonable and bar staff friendly and helpful, service was excellent. You are only a two minute walk from the cassino and restaurants, so the location of the hotel is perfect.

I'm not sure if it's because we booked via booking.com, but we didn't get as warm as others when checking in. Check-in staff are not very friendly and didn't give us informationation on breakfast or dinner should we want to take it.

Breakfast was excellent and the entire staff was very friendly and welcoming, the hotel is beautiful with stunning views from the room and I enjoyed the very affordable room service.

The Spa was non-existent, I literally expected to use a steam/sauna room not just a massage by the pool which is what was described as a Spa, it was the only disappointing part of the hotel, the hotel is too beautiful not to have a steam room and sauna. Apart from that, the pool is nice and the gardens are just stunning.

Very friendly people, the PR manager helped us solve an issue we had there, dinner was excellent, clean, perfect location.

We were disappointed when we realised that the man who works there and called us a taxi told the driver what to charge us. We asked the driver why is so expensive and he said this is what they told me to charge. The real cost with Uber was 30€ and we pain 120€ as the guy wanted commission. Use Uber, don’t trust them for transportation as they really want to steal your money.

Breakfast was outstanding, buffet selection with the 'full monty' of breads, fruits, deli choices, cereals and hot breakfast selections, plus an a-la-carte egg menu for omelette's etc. The service from the amazing staff, was impeccable. We liked the location because it was close to family, but the proximity to Montecasino made it very convenient for restaurants and bars to meet friends too. The hotel has an impressive generator, as the switch from Eskom to local generator was virtually seamless, making for a much more pleasant stay than if the power was continually cut. The quality of the pool was awesome - amazing service, lovely setting and a long c 25m pool for swimming. The grounds are immaculately maintained and it really feels like an English Country Hotel rather than in the middle of Johannesburg. Very well done to the team, we felt right at home. Bonus point: we left a tip for a member of staff, at reception. Shortly afterwards, they reimbursed the tip as the staff member had just that day moved on to another job. Most impressed at the honesty and integrity shown here.

Checkin had slight confusion about pre-payment, we were happy to add our credit card details for any costs incurred during our stay, despite having pre-paid, rather than have the bar fridge locked as originally proposed.

The breakfast was delicious, lots of choice and all very tasty. The service was also impeccable. The distance to Monte Casino is so close, nice to go for a nice evening meal and walk safely and quickly back to our hotel. The people at reception and the concierge were all so helpful and friendly.

Oh one of the lifts wasn't working a 100%, it would take about ten attempts for the room card to work, apart from that everything was great.

This is a very beautiful hotel, we were located in room 212 on the first floor, with two double beds, I was traveling with my mother. Breakfast was good with plenty of selections from buffet or a la carte menu, rooms and beds comfy, staff were super friendly and always willing to help you out. I will stay again for sure. right next to Montecasino with restaurants and small shops, about 20 minute drive outside Johannesburg and fourways mall is 5 minute drive away for more shopping. For a 5 star hotel it was very affordable and 5 star service.

The only downside which is NOT the hotel's fault is the daily power outages, all over south africa. they do have backup generators so at least wifi is up but power sockets are out. So make sure you always keep your devices charged for travel purposes. The room service we ordered our first night was not good, T-bone steak and a hamburger but the food in the restaurant was very good.

upon checking in the lady at the desk got our check in date mixed up and said we had arrived 3 days too early...she later found the fully paid booking and apologised. room didn't have an iron, mini bar was locked ..could have been stocked with cheap things like juice, water, chocs bed was made down for 1 person and we were a couple. room service menu was a bit limited Was expecting a bit more compared to our previous stay at the hotel next door...the Pivot Hotel...to be honest our stay was a bit better at the Pivot

The beautiful pool and garden. The friendly and attentive staff.

Some details lacking. I booked three rooms and had to ask for some minor items to be added such as soap and coffee in one or two of the rooms. Some of the porch doors in the deluxe rooms don’t close/lock properly. The pool furniture is starting to show a lot of wear and tear and the birds (and bird droppings) are becoming a bit of a nuisance. Perhaps ask, or remind, your guests not to feed the birds at breakfast or at the pool.
