SO/ Auckland

It is a very well appointed hotel with a sense of art all around you. The standalone tub gives it a bit of an edge in Auckland city and a fantastic bed sums it up for a restful stay. The breakfast is fantastic and it has an extraordinary view from the top. It is a decent place to stay, although, at this price point, there could be few more options to shop around.

The photos could be a bit deceiving and each layout is different. We got moved to a room at a lower level after our door lock didn't work. This room was identical but the noise from the street can be heard. It didn't bother us but it was present. The curtains were a bit of a mission as the reach wasn't the easiest. Got it done after walking from end to end and around furniture.

The decor was fabulous, the room super comfy, the complimentary refreshments greatly appreciated. Loved the shower and the bath in the room. Got to watch a free and recent movie on the TV. Lights and furnishings in the foyer were fun. Rooftop bar really interesting (but we felt a bit old). Didn't have time to use the pool or gym but was great they have these here for folks to use.

Our view was of a building under construction and there was a bit of construction noise going on during the day. I was very disappointed not to have a harbour view. I messaged the hotel to ask if we could change rooms for the 2nd night and they did not even acknowledge my message. Complimentary snacks were not replenished when the room got serviced.

Staff were really friendly and hospitable; nothing was too much for them. Wonderful pool, jacuzzi and sauna and even managed a gym session in the well equipped gym. The changing facilities for the pool and gym were also well looked after and perfect for our requirements. Bed was super comfy and being on the 8th floor, city side, we didn't have an issue with any street noise. We had a late flight so it was great to be able to leave our luggage in an assigned place and felt confident it was secure. We were well looked after well after check out! Brilliant buffet breakfast with so much choice, we were well filled for the day!

There weren't many spare plug sockets in the room: both plugs on one side of the bed were used for bedside lamp and clock, there was a spare on the other side of the bed. One by the window for a lamp on the desk but that seemed to be all. So the hairdryer had to be used far away from any mirror and ironing had to be done in the gap to the side of the bed. Small thing was that there wasn't any alcohol in the minibar and so you order that as room service. Fair enough, but the QR code system to order wasn't working when we tried it. We could have gone to reception to ask but we didn't have enough time before we had to shoot out anyway. Hopefully that's fixed for others in future soon.

Thoroughly enjoyed the hotel, which exceeded my expectations. It would be the nicest hotel for couples I have ever stayed in within New Zealand. The favilities and room were both amazing. I would absolutely stay here again.

We had a couple of service issues being: We ordered room service breakfast at 7.40am but it wasn't delivered until 9.10am. On Sunday morning the TV had network issues and was unable to be used. I called the front desk but got no answer for 15 minutes. On check out, the hotel offered to make our services including valet and the breakfast complimentary, which I thought was more than adequate. I would absolutely stay here again.

Love the vibe of this hotel! Very beautiful attention to detail and luxury rooms. A fun unique lobby! facilities are excellent.

The room service took a very long time to come, had to ring twice to find out as waited 1.5hours for a small cheese board. The lifts were playing up a bit during our stay. No in room information on where to find things at the hotel. The breakfast buffet was not stocked up very efficiently and had to wait a long time for barista coffee, perk was however available

In Auckland for the Ed Sheeran concert. Our whole experience at this Hotel was amazing. So clean and spotless which I liked about this hotel. We had the So Playful Room and omg it was perfect, had a bath as soon as we got into the room and what a relaxing hour I had. The staff were amazing especially the young lady who worked at the front desk the morning of the 12th Feb with the lovely nails. Definitely 100% would go back if ever in Auckland. Also the breakfast menu is well worth going to. Thank you So Hotel.

Absolutely nothing bad to say about this hotel

I loved the style of the place. From the quirky furniture, the pretty lights and clean facilities. Everything at this hotel was fun and amazing. (Also the fact that there was only movies on the tv for you to scroll through and watch that was a bonus!)

I wasn’t too happy that I had booked a room that was “city facing” but the view was a construction building only. I understand as the hotel was already so busy I wasn’t able to upgrade so that’s ok.

SO! Where do I start? An amazing fantasy with quirky and cool around every corner. The breakfast was ‘divine’, and I’m not one for French toast or pancakes. The rooms were set up for staycations. The little “his” and “hers” drawers were lovely. The art work and mannequins around the hotel were my favourite. This hotel is close to the ferries, lovely shops and restaurants, however the roof top bar had it all. If you are after that ‘wow’ factor, this hotel has it in spades.

I’m a little visually impaired so the black fittings and dark tiles made it harder for me to find things at first. There was an iron, but no ironing board( towel on bench). The milk in the mini bar had no straw attached and required scissors- really? Luckily I had some. By the second day I worked out the various unique aspects of the room. I wasn’t travelling with my husband on this trip and perhaps if I was, these little extra things wouldn’t have bottomed as much.

Roof terrace bar was booked for a private function on the only night we were at the hotel. Had to change our plans and go later. Restaurant Maitre d’ at breakfast could lift her standard of dress to at least that of the other staff ( Faded jeans, crocs and odd socks were definitely below SO hotel standards)
