Van der Valk Hotel Hoorn

Superb location for exploring North Holland and. especially, the beautiful town of Hoorn (which is a 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive). Very friendly and helpful staff. Great size bedroom, well furnished and comfortable, with good amenities (nice toiletries, tea and coffee, hairdryer, sat tv, good wifi, huge bathroom with shower and separate bath tub). Breakfast buffet absolutely fab and the evening food at restaurant offering quite a good choice too, with a nice outdoor terrace to enjoy the last of the sun. Plenty of free parking on site.

The “rooftop” pool was a bit disappointing - I envisaged an outdoor pool with seating areas, but it’s inside and quite small. Had to request more teabags and water each day for the room, but that’s being really picky!

The room was exceptionally well-presented and very spacious and comfortable, with ample room and space for sleeping, sitting/relaxing and working. The breakfast selection was extensive and second-to-none with many, many options available, offering very good value for money. The free WiFi was a highlight, very reliable and fast enough to support remote working.

The shower thermostat wasn't working on the first morning, so I only had boiling hot water available. This was rectified the same day by the technical team without issue and I was able to shower using the hand-held shower in the bath in the meantime.

The room was very spacious and very clean. The bed was super comfortable and the bathtub was wonderful. The restaurants and movie theatre in the complex are a great benefit, it's nice to not have to leave if you don't want to. The pool and sauna and fitness room were small but nice.

The location is very hard to get to if you don't have a car. We couldn't get a taxi or Uber to leave either-Hoorn is too small to have a very effective taxi system. We had to walk all the way to the train station to leave.

It's a 4-star hotel, but it's actually 5-star luxury. It's part of a larger complex that includes a casino, a restaurant, and probably other facilities that I didn't visit. The room is super clean, quite spacious, and very quiet with a great view on a wide green area. The bathroom was very nice, with a shower and a bath tub. My baby enjoyed her private swimming pool immensely! The location is just off the highway so it's very easy to reach. I also took the car for a 6m drive to a Halal restaurant, so the city is just a few minutes of driving. The Wi-Fi was open, no password needed. This is really convenient. The breakfast was superb. Very spacious restaurant and enough variety to satisfy all tastes. It's also available till 10:30, which is unusual (usually till 9:30 or 10:00 in most hotels I've been to). All in all, I'm definitely coming back in case I come back to Hoorn.

I didn't like that check-out is at 11:00 while check-in is at 15:00. Almost all hotels that I've been to where 11:00 and 14:00 or 12:00 and 15:00. I had to pay more to stay till 13:00 instead of 11:00 (but not really much). Also, the interaction on Booking.com wasn't the best. I asked a question, and received an automated answer as a reply. So, nobody read my message and my question wasn't answered before coming. Luckily, I found what I wanted to be available.

The staff was great. They take complaints very seriously and solve them as best they can. Also the hotel itself is very nice and has a lot to offer. Big rooms and everything is nice and clean.

I had some issues with my window. The rubbers were slightly worn so even though the windows was closed a lot of cold air was coming in and also there was a whistling noise comiglng from the window because of this issue. I notified the staff and they were so kind to provide a different room for me. Very nice of them.

Restaurant was excellent. Theater also very good. Love the energy conservation of having to use keycard to access lights and therefore lights go off when leave the room as you take your key with you. Very cool!

Nickel and dime extra payment for amenities like swimming pool. No free amenities. Even had to pay 5€ to get a tiny Dutch coffee. Seems like a upscale place should have free coffee like all the bargain basement chain motels provide.

Very modern property with spacious, clean rooms. We stayed here for the second time now and since the first time we stayed was during COVID it was good to be able to visit now without restrictions. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Also happy that the hotel has a gym and a pool. They also have a bike shed where we could safely keep our electric bikes. We will visit again for sure.

The gym is located next to the pool so the air at the gym is quite humid and smelling of chlorine. Not the best workout conditions.

Breakfast was excellent great choice, pool was small but OK. Great parking especially as we had a van so no height restrictions. Great for biking into town. Room was big and very clean

Just a couple of times a problem getting out of the car park but sorted by reception. Water wasn't replace daily

Location was good and accessible link roads to Hoorn. Our rooms was superb, clean and everything we needed. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Would of liked a porter/ concierge to help as had a lot of luggage.

Cleanliness, friendly staff and movie theater in the same building. There is also a casino in the same building if you like that. Lots of free parking and fast chargers for electric cars (including super chargers for Tesla)

Breakfast is overpriced for what you get. Location of hotel is also a bit out in the outskirts.
