Excelsior Hotel Ernst am Dom

What a beautiful hotel and extremely caring staff. Top notch. We didn’t get checked in until after midnight. Mathew walked us to our rooms and had a cup of tea sent my mother’s room. The valet packed up everything in our car and took it to our rooms and parked the car. It was raining the day we were checking out. The Staff held umbrellas over us while we put our suitcases and backpacks where needed in the car. Elegant place. Spoke English. one room was newer/fresher while the other nostalgic with a heated bathroom floor! we liked them both. You walk out to the Cathedral in front of you, train station to your left, and a Starbucks! Mc Donald’s and German restaurant are 10steps from hotel too. 20 min. walk to Chocolate Museum

many hotels have USB ports and the rooms we were in did not. It was fine for us as we traveled with converters etc. The pillows were too flat for me. Maybe have a cotton medium fluff one would be nice. It’s a beautiful and comfortable room though! Do stay here if in Cologne.

Reviewing on behalf of my son and mother-in-law. A great, historic ambience of a luxury hotel, with views of the Cathedral. Very central, yet quiet. My son was impressed that he was offered a newspaper for the morning - what a great tradition! All very celan and pleasant. Very comfortable beds. All sort of opprotunities to explore, both within and around the hotel. Great location. Staff was very welcoming, as you would expect.

Steamroom and sauna were great, but no swimming pool. USB port charger was broken.

This was a trip down memory lane. Stayed there a large number of years ago. This grand old dame of a hotel is just a fantastic place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Nothing was too much trouble for them to resolve. After a long hot drive it was a pleasure to 'abandon' the car at the front door and know that it would be back the next day. It was hot, really hot and the old school air conditioner needed a prod. No problem, the staff sorted it fast. This is one place where they travel the extra mile to help you enjoy your stay. You will not be disappointed using any of the facilities. Loved the old lifts and expansive stairways. 'Old school' and all the better for it

THE BREAKFAST WAS DIVINE! They even have no pork options- like turkey bacon!!! it was so gooooood, if you stay here, get the breakfast! Was the best part of stay! Super comfy pillow and duvet. Staff was wonderful. They went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. We were able to leave our luggage after checking out and do some more touring. Located only a few steps from the cathedral, the metro, and the city tour bus. Location is fantastic. Lovely big soaker tub in bathroom. Free access to minibar is nice.

My room did not have air conditioning! My colleagues had it but there was no thermostat in my room, luckily it wasn't too hot and I just slept with window open. Biggest issue was that we went up to check out the sauna and gym area (my 12 year son was on this business trip with us and wanted to work out) and a couple was in an open shower engaging in bedroom activities. We were all pretty traumatised by it. My eyeballs are still burning and my son said seeing that made him feel icky. Maybe the hotel needs a sign that says "beware of naked people" or "please no sex in shower" As much as I enjoyed my stay, I am not sure it was worth quite the price we paid.

The location is perfect! Right near the train station for easy travel, right beside the Dom with lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance.

The bed was hard as a rock. It felt like sleeping on a wooden pallet. Given the cost of the room, I expected to have a much more comfortable experience.

room endearingly old-school in terms of furnishings but in desperate need of air-conditioning. Wi-Fi worked only haphazardly throughout my stay (2nd floor)

Perfectly located by the train and sightseeing places of interest and city life. Beautiful inside and out. Courteous and helpful staff. Roomy and very comfy accommodations. Details. Slippers. Robes. Bottled water. Piano music in the lounge area in the afternoon. We were able to check in several hours early and leave our luggage for several hours after checkout while we continued enjoying Cologne. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Loss of hot water but that was a city issue as 80 hotels lost water for part of the morning.

Close proximity to all attractions and transportation. The breakfast was great and the room was fantastic. Very comfortable rooms and the room was large. The staff was so accommodating and helpful

Nothing really, I loved the location and the staff. The location can get a bit touristy because it's so close to the Cathedral. So sometimes the noise outside can be a little loud. But that's something the hotel cannot help.

Lovely room in a classy hotel. Everything was perfect. Large, well-provisioned room with comfy bed and big, plush bathroom. Really friendly and helpful staff. A perfect location right next to the central station (Hbf) and opposite the Dom cathedral, close to the Rhine.

Restaurant was fully booked the evening we were there, but the beer keller next door was fun instead. Otherwise, nothing wrong at all.

Amazing classy decor, fabulous outdoors breakfast location and choices, bathtub is definitely a plus, very spacious room. Nice sauna.

Bathtub had some blackness in between tiles and u d expect impeccable maintenance in such a hotel, no massage area, No swimmingpool.
