Zulu Surf Hotel Tamarindo

Breakfast was included and was awesome, quite filling and varied! We had it at Sol Bakery right next door. The staff there were amazing, very accommodating and friendly. Marilyn and Arnoldo were the perfect hosts every morning while we stayed there. Our room Santa Teresa suite was well-distributed, very good and clean! The staff was outstandingly accommodating and nice. I have special dietary needs and they went the extra mile to place a microwave oven in our room to supply that need. Christia, Valeria and Marko won our hearts!

This may be a suggestion for management for the future. A bit of more shelving in the toilet and sink room plus an extra electric outlet in the bedroom would make it almost perfect.

The staff was very friendly. I arrived a few hours before check in and they allowed me to leave my bags behind the front desk until my room was ready, and they had my room available within an hour of my arrival and still two hours before the standard check in time. The room was clean and comfortable, with large windows and three small balconies. The bathroom was clean and the towels and linens were fine. The room came with coupons for several drinking and dining establishments immediately behind and next to the hotel. The AC unit kept the room at a comfortable temperature since the daytime temps were in the low 90s with "feels like" temps at or just over 100. My trip was in mid-May.

The mattress needs to be replaced. There were a couple of places where you could feel the inner springs. I found a comfortable sleeping position but I was travelling alone. Had I been sharing the bed, I know I would have had to sleep on the spring.

Zulu surf hotel was a great stay. It was in the center of town and a short walk to the beach. My favorite part was the kind and helpful staff and the hammocks on the 2nd floor. It was nice to sit in those either in the morning or evening after a long day of activity. The hotel comes with free breakfast at a cafe around the corner which was also excellent. I appreciate the extra perks they gave us as well which were a pleasant surprise (free drinks at the nearby bar and a discount at a restaurant nearby).

The hotel was a little bit loud but to be honest, you can't beat a more central location. If you don't want a place with hustle and bustle stay further outside of Tamarindo or do not visit the tourist spot at all.

When researching on places to stay in Tamarindo, Zulu Surf Hotel wasn’t one of the first ones to come up but I’m so glad I stumbled upon it! Everything about the stay was amazing. The location is perfect right in the centre of town. The staff really do go above and beyond, upon check in they gave me a quick tour around the town and recommended places to eat, they carried my very heavy luggage upstairs and cleaned my room everyday and even folded my clothes for me! The room was super clean and coming back to a nice cool air conditioned room after a long day at the beach was bliss. They’re super friendly and always happy to help (they even opened the door to my room for me when they could see I had my hands full) I loved Tamarindo that much I ended up extending my stay 3 times, highly recommend!

They do offer free breakfast however it’s just a coffee and pastries so I ended up eating out most days. Offering a few more savoury breakfast options would definitely be a bonus!

We were a bit hesitant when booking this room because we have read the previous reviews. However, the room exceeded our expectations, the staff is really nice and the location is great in the centre of the city. The room is very spacious and provides everything you need. Breakfast is at a local coffee bar close-by and is really nice.

When we arrived there was no-one at the check-in and when we wanted to extent our stay for one more night there was no-one to be found once again. The cleaning staff doesn't speak english so it was hard to find out at what time they would arrive.

Nice little hotel with very welcoming and friendly staff. We booked last minute because the booking we had with another place was complete disaster, so Zulu saved our vacation and we were very happy with our stay there! The breakfast from the bakery downstairs was delicious, they also gave us coupons with discount for some of the restaurants and bars that are right behind the hotel. The location is also very good, in the center of the city and very close to the beach but at the same time not too loud. Would recommend staying there!

The bathroom set up just didn't make sense. There for no plug for the hair dryer in the bathroom at all, so I had to use it in the bedroom which makes no sense...lol also the sink shelf made it difficult to wash your face or brush your teeth because it was right above the sink which meant that you couldn't bend down to wash your face, and all the water went on the floor...

The stuff was super helpful, the breakfast options were great to our taste and the lounge area was very chill for a little break.

There were no hangers in the room, we haven’t asked for them though, I am sure the stuff would think of something if we did. Also, as many other reviews were saying, the hotel is located very central to the going out part of Tamarindo. it didn’t bother us, but I can imagine if you are looking for some peace and quiet this place might be not for you.

Excellent place. A bit noisy because it's super central but that's what we were looking for. The breakfast at Sol Bakery is delicious and they also had amazing pastries and other dishes that are worth trying. It's not luxury but it's great value and the rooms were big enough for a few nights. It's also next to a food court that will cover all food and drinks needs over the stay.

Just a bit noisy since we were in the room by the main gate and we could hear people passing.

Hip, cool surf like vibe, clean rooms, updated, several places to eat and a bar area within a few yards of hotel, convenient to bus transportation/stop. incredible, authentic Costa Rican breakfast…Nice open area on 1st and 2nd floor to relax in hammocks, read, just enjoy the outdoors.
