The Famous Star Hotel Moffat

From the minute we walked in we were made to feel very welcome by all staff. The room was lovely, a decent size and very nicely decorated. The bed was extremely comfy. We had dinner which was delicious, great choice on the menu, making it hard to make a decision on what to have!! Breakfast the next morning was equally as delicious with a great choice. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Location was great and there was no problem with parking.

There was nothing not to like the only tiny thing would be to provide a shower mat for outside of the shower door. Only because I managed to flood the shower room whilst turning on the shower.

The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The hotel has bags of character and has a fabulous atmosphere. Although the hotel doesn’t have its own parking there is free parking just opposite the hotel on the quiet Main Street. The hotel location makes it a fabulous place to stay when exploring local amenities and attractions.

There isn’t a lift and the staircase is fairly steep so getting luggage upstairs could be a problem for some. Having said that though, on checking in we were asked if we needed help with luggage so that’s available if required.

The staff were superb and clearly care about their jobs and the guests. The location is pretty good for being somewhere remote but not too far from anything. The menu at the restaurant has a good amount of choice and even alternatives for vegetarians. The room was a decent size and perfectly comfortable with a nice view.

The price is a bit higher than I'd like for not a lot of amenities, the toilet was quite small along with the shower cubicle. The TV was tiny and didn't have any Internet functionality which meant not being able to watch a movie in bed together. Our meals weren't very flavourful but that could be preference. The pub and restaurant were also quite loud if you want to sleep early.

Second visit here and were upgraded to the lovely large front aspect family room. Despite being at the front of this gem of a hotel it was quiet at night. Bed was lovely and comfortable and hotel was super clean and we loved our stopover stay travelling up to the Highlands. Breakfast as always was lovely.

Food was a little disappointing. We had a meal with friends and all remembered how lovely the steaks were so we all ordered medium rare but they came back well done. They were still tender and tasty.

There was an issue with the toilet filling up seemed to take for ever and was a bit noisy sound of running water room 4. Didn't see any staff to report it but it was sorted . Oh the restaurant was closed that 1 day but apology and other places nearby was recommended.

Smooth check in. Able to book dinner separately from an extensive and varied menu. Room a good size considering the hotel is so narrow. Bed a super king which was nice, appropriate furniture in room for use. Good variety of breakfast options though the cold yoghurt/fruit pots did not look appetising at all.

Didn't like that the sink was in the bedroom though understand that this is due to size of space available. It would not have been my preferred choice. Was not keen on my main dinner meal presentation, appeared to be more like a pub chain rather than an independent especially when some of the other meals being served were much better presented. My curry meal arrived minus naan bread, this was brought after I had started eating and it had clearly been heated in a microwave. Waitress was given clear instructions on my partners meals, what was not wanted yet meal came with said items and had to be taken away to be re-plated.

A quirky little hotel. Perfect location for exploring the town.. Staff couldn't be more helpful and all of them are really friendly. Food is very good and very reasonable

Parking a bit hit and miss. Plenty of parking in the public square at the front of the hotel but at busy times you may be quite a distance away from the hotel.. No lift so be prepared to use stairs although these aren't steep

The staff were exceptional and food was a mix with the pies we had were 5 star but mash and chipped potatoe was a little disappointing .Plenty of veg carrots,peas,and mange two appear ed to be frozen but edible. The bedroom was quirky but with everything you needed .wash sink was in the bedroom with shower and toilet in a cubicle. And I must say the shower is more a massager than shower and I will give it a 10 out of 10

What I didn't like hmm can't think of anything

We thought this place was lovely and very unique. The staff were very helpful and we also had a wonderful meal (home made pies), we have told all our friends about the place and would most certainly come back & look forward to being back in the not so distant future! Thank you again & sorry we couldn't stay for breakfast, we had to hit the motorway early on this occasion unfortunately to beat the traffic due to the rail strikes.

Nothing really. Everything was good

Easy ro locate, parked motorcycle opposite. Pleasant reception staff, was shown to.my room. All facilities goid with a powerful shower. Comfortable bed, quiet through night 🌙 Lively cooked Scottish breakfast 😋. Easy check out. Shall stay again when in the area.

Only one small omission, no towel to step onto when exiting shower cubicle meaning floor was very wet & slippery. Had to use towel by basin. Otherwise all good.
