Maniumpathy Hotel

This boutique hotel was a real oasis in the heart of Colombo. The friendly and approachable staff made us feel at home in the stylish surroundings, and our rooms were huge and luxuriously furnished. The food was absolutely delicious and always beautifully presented. We also arranged to have two celebratory family gatherings during our stay; one a high tea in the Cigar Room and the other a buffet dinner for 25 guests in the Veranda. Both occasions couldn't have gone better, as the food and service were outstanding, and the staff obliging. We were made to feel very special.

The only drawback for us was a faulty air conditioning unit, as we struggled with the heat, having just arrived from the UK. However, the staff worked hard to fix it and gave us extra fans and even offered us another room, so they did everything they possibly could to remedy the situation. We trust this will have been sorted in time for the next guests.

We booked the Ranee suite and it was a great room - on top floor with large balcony, large room and bathroom. The decor was very nice and had charm. The bedding was very comfortable and shower was good, aircon worked well. The place was very quiet except when they are having functions, but they finished at a reasonable hour. The breakfast was nice in courtyard area with a lot of options to choose from and cooked to order which is good. The location was pretty good as it is very easy to get around by tuk tuk and we didn't want to stay where all the big hotels are. There are plenty of cafes around that are walkable from hotel. There was an open window in bathroom which really should be covered by a flyscreen but there didn't appear to be mosquitos so it was OK. The wifi worked well. We would definitely consider staying here again if in Colombo as it was in a quiet area, with an intimate feel and nice building and very comfortable room. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

The hotel should provide menus in the rooms for drinks and lunch and dinner and information about laundry and other facilities/services so that one knows without needing to ask.

Breakfast was very good and an excellent selection from which to choose. The dinner menu is quite limited, but what we had was absolutely delicious - in fact, we would go there as non-residents in the future just for a meal.

The chairs in the rooms and on the verandahs were not particularly comfortable for sitting on for long periods of time, but we understand that most people who stay here probably don't anticipate staying in their rooms for long - we did from time to time, so found it less than comfortable to do so. The toilet door being of glass (a phenomenon in numerous hotels that are fairly newly renovated) is a dreadful bother - no privacy and really no need for this, especially not an aesthetic one, given the age of the building.

The Maniumpathy Hotel was a different experience from the usual international hotel offering. It would have been easy to forget that I was in a hotel and think that I was staying at a distant cousin's country house. I had an air-conditioned room with a four-poster bed complete with mosquito netting. The en-suite bathroom was "outdoors," which required mosquito coils to avoid bites. Otherwise, the ablution facilities were private and spacious. The free wifi never failed, but there were warnings about power outages and demonstrations during my visit. The lack of tourists in Colombo was evident at a glance in any foray downtown, and it also meant that there were few other guests for much of my stay. The meals were served either under the veranda or in the garden area. The quality of the offerings at each sitting was excellent, especially the Sri Lankan breakfast of curry and hoppers and the lunchtime thali. There is no bar, but cans of local beer were available on request.

The hotel is a gem in the heart of Colombo. Staff adorable, all of them. They are not just kind and nice, they love their job. The garden is wonderful, I tried the spa which was great at affordable price, and the breakfast is WOW

I booked a transfer to the airport but I found it too expensive. 45 usd compared 28 usd I paid on arrival with the private transfer from another hotel.

Superb service, very comfortable beautifully furnished room & a luxurious old world charm. The food is freshly made, tasty & not pricey considering the location and quality. The staff are very courteous & you feel like a vip lol.

The charges they quoted for transport to/from airport was double what we can get outside or via booking app

We loved everything with this hotel. The room, the service, the breakfast, the pool, everything was perfect. I feel extremely lucky we found this gem of a hotel.

A little noisy if visitors come to have a drink or something in the evening

the room’s outside bathroom would take a bit of getting used too… a few too many mosquitoes stay the night in it so not a place to linger

Historical manor house in the quaintest and most central neighborhood of Colombo, this old Jaffna family house is very tastefully refurbished, staying true to its character while offering unparalleled comfort!! The food at the restaurant is excellent (highly recommended), do try the coconut ice cream for dessert! Best costumer service we have ever experienced. And we travel a lot!!
