Hotel La Malcontenta

The size of everything: the room, the bed, the bathroom, the terrace! We also liked the outdoor space, the gardens, the swimming pool area... in short, the spaciousness of everything! The friendly welcome and atmosphere around the whole place, the free car parking, the restaurant & staff were all part of the total (positive) experience...

It seems strange that guests are expected to have breakfast outside on the terrace in 17°C, as all outside tables were dressed & set... the inside tables needed dressing while we waited to be seated...

Went for a quick holiday for a few days and really enjoyed Malcontenta. It's an ideal spot if you want to visit the small towns of Costa Brava and great for some hiking/trekking. The restaurant is fairly standard catalan fare, but quite good and the convenience is worth it. There are nice walks to the beach, which is fairly secluded. We were not there on warm days so we didn't use the pool.

It's rated as 5 stars, but they are missing many of the small details that make a 5 star experience. There isn't really a spa even though there is a shack outside that seems like it was for massage. The restaurant wine selection is just ok and the overall vibe didn't feel as welcoming (when I think 5 stars I imagine nice music, nice aromas, a free drink, and some free snacks). Also, while it didn't end up being warm enough to use the pool we had planned to use and were told that we could not even though it said in advance that we could so worth checking to see if it's open. We were there in middle May.

Lovely hotel in a wonderful, quiet location. Friendly staff and very spacious, comfortable rooms.

Beautiful and elegant hotel in a historical house surrounded by vast and lovely garden. Really calm and relaxing atmosphere, staff is friendly. Dinner at the restaurant was quite delicious, and the served breakfast also good and plenty. My room turned out to be up a narrow and high staircase - I'm glad there was possibility to change it to another one, although with some extra fee. That other room was spacious and comfortable with a great marble bathroom. Actually enjoyed being there and definitely wish to come back for a longer stay.

the sofas and curtains in the room were covered with white fabric - and it seemed to me it could be more clean. It the evening it was quite cold and draft in the restaurant. Otherwise is fine.

The charm this property has is beautiful. From the moment you walk in you have a sense of relaxation. The staff are amazing, helping with restaurant choices and ensuring you are looked after. The breakfast is amazing with lots of choices and served with a smile. The local beach (walking distance) is a great place for an afternoon dip and drink. The restaurant on site offers great local dishes for an affordable price. The pool is huge! Needing a little clean but spacious to swim around and lay on a comfortable day bed to dry off.

As expected with an older building, there are some general areas of improvement. Some lights didn’t work, power sockets leading to know where and loud plumbing.

Very nice room: this time we booked a room without terrace and it was much larger than the one with terrace we had before. Excellent dinner at the restaurant served by a very good waiter. Very friendly staff at reception & in the bar.

Breakfast was good, but the coffee was horrendous: it is by far the worst coffee we have ever been served in Spain and we've lived here for more than 20 years... The waitress at the hotel restaurant was not very professional, imposing misplaced familiarity on the guests.

Garden room very good. Breakfast excellent. Restaurant superb. Pool good.

Aircon not working, took more than 24 hours to sort. Most reception staff excellent, initial staff member a bit casual, no intro to room. More umbrellas needed at pool. Still not clear where to get pool towels ??

Its a 20 minute walk to the beach, The room was massive, the best bath and shower ever had in hotel ! Breakfast was good quality, The pool is large and nice sunbeds around, Its got LOTS of charm and unusual quirkes

Its a bit strange not your usual hotel ,but its been changed from old manor house so maybe , the maintenance must be a nightmare and they need to spend more time on it

service standards and attention to detail not 5 star. nowhere comfortable to sit as crazy sofas throughout only for lying down. Everything just a bit limited, drinks, food, staff attentiveness etc. As I said above though the staff were really lovely but they need more training. This makes it not value for money in my book at £900 for two nights including food and drink.
