Ateneo Puerta del Sol

Very central location, it was easy to walk everywhere. The hotel was small and cozy, the staff was friendly and helpful. The decor of the hotel is probably somewhat dated but I thought that the hotel was good value for what I paid - the hotel was a bit cheaper that other hotels in the centre. The area of the hotel was quite busy but didn't seem unsafe. Lots of tourists everywhere. I guess the police has some kind of office nearby because there was always a lot of police vehicles around. :-) I arrived to the city centre by the airport bus, the walk from the bus stop to the hotel was maybe 10-15 minutes. The breakfast was OK. My room had a little balcony which was cute. Internet worked well. And because everyone is thinking about this nowadays: there was no bedbugs and the hotel was otherwise clean too. :-D

LOTS OF NOISE from the street especially during evening and nights. I got used to it, but if you are a poor sleeper this is probably a problem. The safety box in the room was tiny (and you had to use coins to close/open it every time) and would not fit everything I wanted to put there. You can hear some noise from other rooms too, but luckily other guests were quiet.

Fantastic location - just off the main square and metro at Sol but within easy walking distance of the main attractions, whether to the palace one way or El Prado and the parks etc in the other. Very lively vibe around the hotel. The hotel was super clean, the bed one of the most comfortable I have ever encountered in a hotel. Breakfast was a vast range to satisfy pretty much anyone's requirements.

Nothing at all. The hotel maybe looks a little unprepossessing from the outside, but inside all is clean, organised and friendly.

The staff was very friendly. They helped me out with everything I needed. I checked in early so one of the hotel receptionists offered me another room at no extra cost. And she was also booking me taxis in advance to get around and recommended some good activities to do in Madrid and how to navigate the city. Another hotel receptionist was also helpful in advising me where I can go watch football in Madrid.

The hotel was smaller than I expected but that’s okay.

The location is perfect if you want to visit the city because it's in 5 minutes walk from Puerta del Sol. Another big advantage is the breakfast option. We stayed at this hotel in the winter so the windows were shut but if you go in the summer and want to keep them open, there will be a lot of noise because of the pedestrian street. During the weekend people walk on there all day and all night. Welcome to Madrid! :)

The Hotel is in the centre of the city, so the location of the Hotel is excellent. It is close to the metro stations. The Hotel is in the old building, which also has a restaurant. Our room, including bathroom was big for three people. The crew of the hotel was very kindly and helpful. They were helpful in everything, for example in placing our packages after check-out. The room was above average clean, they cleaned it every day. Breakfast was provided for a price, but there were a significant number of breakfast places in the area (from the Starbucks to the Donkin Donuts).

The Hotel needs renovation in some places, mainly at the reception. The location of our room within in the Hotel was not to excellent, because our window of the room faced to other wall. No work the air conditioner. The Wi-Fi of the Hotel was slowly and in the television can see just Spanish language channels. The area around the hotel was very noisy at night and in the morning.

I was impressed with friendliness, openness to help and staff’s attitude to make things happen for me. The water pressure was great? The a/c was reliable.

I was a bit concerned that it was very loud at night and I found it difficult to sleep, but the location couldn’t be more convenient, so it’s a compromise. I suggest ghat in the vanity set the hotel provides ear plugs.

The hotel is very near Puerta del Sol, 100 meters or fewer. I like walking, so it is easy for me to visit the touristic places in Madrid. The breakfast is good, the room and bathroom are good too and there is a fridge. The staff is very nice. I would come back there.

I would like more option of fruits during the breakfast, the air conditioner was not working when I was there, but I didn't complain. I just would like a brighter bulb in the bathroom.

The location it was perfect, because it wasnt’ exactly in Puerta del Sol, but very close. The breakfast was very tasty and you had what to eat. The room was very spacious, comfy, very big bathroom and nice view from the balcony. Also the AC was working great.

It wasn’t any shower gel, although an empty bottle was fixed on the wall.

The staff is very friendly, the location is perfect, and the room was wonderful!! The beds were comfy, we had 2 balconies and everything was wonderfully clean. The best hotel I've ever stayed at in that price range!!

If I have to pick one thing, the mini fridge wasn't really cold so our water never got nice and cold but that's a really really minor thing

The location is great! Close to everything. A simple hotel but it’s clean and comfortable beds. Excellent base to explore Madrid.

Thin doors so you heard people (and cleaning staff) slamming doors in the hallway.
