The hotel is lovely, full of history and religious artefacts, being a converted monastery. There is a beautiful quadrangle in the middle which is great for an evening drink in the relative cool. Lots of places to sit to chill out or read a book. The hotel is situated quite centrally and has it's own car park. It's a thirty minute walk to the beach at the bottom end of town and fifteen minutes to the ferry which will take you over to Cadiz. There are some interesting buildings about including a castle and a fantastic church or two and lots of little squares with bars for tapas and beer. It all felt very safe around and about. The rooms we had both had balconies overlooking the pool area. We are a family of four and we were given adjoining rooms, which worked very well. The rooms were cleaned every day and the sheets changed. Thanks to very friendly staff - thank you. Our room had the largest double bed I've ever seen in my life. Very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and well set out. Shampoo, conditioner and hand soap were provided in large push down bottles. Not very fine, but saves on plastic. The room had a fridge/mini bar stocked with beer and soft drinks. There were no drinks making facilities, which I guess is a British expectation, but would have been good because there was no bar to get refreshments during the day. The restaurant was self service buffet style for both breakfast and evening meal. For breakfast, there was a range of hot and cold food eggs bacon sausages and pastries and breads. All excellent, except for the yogurt on offer, which was some artificial concoction with beef fat in it! There was a very good coffee machine using real coffee beans. Supper, also self service was good. There was usually a meat, fish and vegetable dish on offer and a range of salads and starters, including cold meats. We stayed half board and everyone, including the vegetarian in our family was satisfied. Breakfast 07:30 -10:30.

The biggest downside was that there is no bar service during the day, just a couple of vending machines - The coffee provided by them was not the best. It was very hot when we were staying and so we spent a good deal of time during the middle of the day in the hotel. It would have been really nice to be able to grab a glass of beer or to get a nice coffee during the day and a drink by the pool would have been good. The bar opened at four pm. So fine for pre-dinner drinks.

Beautiful historic and interesting building with really friendly staff special mention for Manuel by the pool bar, very personable guy, rooms large and shower was amazing, loved the location close to everywhere, convenient for ferry over to Cádiz, pool really good for a swim after a day walking and exploring in the heat

A very minor comment is the AC in the bedroom worked great but was a bit noisy for sleeping if you want it to stay on throughout the night, it didn't take away the overall enjoyment of our stay

The building was really beautiful - I hadn't realised from the website exactly what I had booked, but it was stunning! I really enjoyed the architecture and unique features of the monastary. We were very lucky to be upgraded to a suite instead of the two separate rooms we had booked, at no extra cost. The breakfast was also amazing - lots and lots of choice, very good value. And finally, it is a short walk away from bars and restaurants with great atmosphere and choice.

We liked everything, but would have been nice to provide tea/coffee in the rooms. Also the swimming pool is a fairly boring rectangle, but was clean and warm.

Third time at this hotel, says it all. Beautiful building, friendly staff, large clean rooms with balcony, swimming pool and a great breakfast. Secure underground parking for my motorcycle as no on-street parking available. El Puerto de Santa Maria is a beautiful old town, plenty of sights, bars, restaurants and shops, with a vibrant evening culture. Costs 3 euros to take the waterbus over to Cadiz, marine station is 10 mins walk from the hotel. Highly recommended.

historic beautiful building, comfortable beds excellent breakfast. Welcoming and friendly staff on reception and at breakfast.

temperature control a little outdated as unable to cool our rooms. We understand the need for responsible efficient energy use but rooms were hot and stuffy. In fairness perhaps this was a “ one off”? We had to sleep with balcony doors open instead. ? photos of rooms not quite descriptive of what you think you’re booking. Not the staff’s fault as apparently there is only one photo type on Booking.com

Very central location. Lots of atmosphere and everything we needed for a short stay.

My husband is disabled and mobilises on crutches. Access to the breakfast room required going up and down stairs. On our final morning a clearer pointed out that there was an access route on one level but this wasn’t signposted at all. A simple thing but this would have made life a lot easier.

Pool was great. Really beautiful building. The receprionists were really friendly and helpful. Impressively clean and well maintained sonsidering size and age of building. Beautiful views from balcony.

Cleaner entered the room without knocking and when there was a do not disturb sign on door though she was extremely apologetic. Could hear next door's alarm going off. No iron available when we asked.

Lovely (and huge but cosy) former monastery with many original features. We found that we had a suite, not just a room! Central location near main sights, restaurants, port and railway station. Within easy reach of Cadiz, Sanlucar and rest of sherry triangle.

Some might find the rooms a little old-fashioned, but that did not bother us. Suite was a good size and very clean.

The hotel is very charming as it is in an old monastery. The room was massive and very quiet. Both check in and check out went very smoothly and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The swimming pool and adjacent garden are very nice too. Location is excellent, within walking distance to most of the city.

The hotel is a bit dated and this shows in the decor and the facilities, including the bathroom, however clean it may be. The bed was slightly soft for my taste, but I prefer hard matresses.
