Akelarre - Relais & Châteaux

Ocean view great and well exploited by the architectural design. Proximity to town and countryside very appreciated. Personnel great -the concierge services in particular were outstanding. Rooms well appointed, ambience very pleasing, excellent sleep comfort. Quality of breakfast top, even if it was only a la carte -no buffet offered. Welcome snacks & bottle of wine in the rooms much appreciated.

An outdoor swimming pool was missed by all of us. It's essential for summer holidays. We were not lucky enough to try the famous restaurant, but this is not the hotel's fault. Trying to find some "easy" food in the casual restaurant, we were surprised to find out that the entire menu was gourmet style, even if the restaurant did not really support such endeavours (space, ambience & style etc.) Value for money not great, but service and overall quality justify the elevated prices.

The views were unbelievable, and the whole experience was extraordinary. I went for a two-day solo retreat and booked an additional three days. I would highly recommend going for a long walk all around the area. The hotel provided a map to go for a beautiful walk. I would also highly recommend booking a service in the spa. I rarely book hotel treatments because they are often overpriced, but the massage and facial were exceptional. Another tip is to try the local yoghurt with their forest honey for breakfast. I have travelled to many 5-star hotels, and I can't even put it in a comparable category. The food, amenities, service, people and property and attention to detail were exceptional. My last tip is to really enjoy the hotel, go for a walk, and enjoy the spa, and the pool is not for swimming but for pure relaxation with massage jets. There is a beautiful room at the spa to watch the ocean to mediation music, eat at their 3star restaurant and watch the unbelievable sunset.

The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are very nice with fantastic views out to sea. The indoor pool and spa are very nice. The staff in the hotel are very polite and smiley and nothing is too much trouble.

This hotel was originally just a restaurant. It has three Michelin stars which means it should be fantastic. It just isn’t. The food is ordinary and the service is really quite poor. We would rate it at best as one star but have eaten in many one star restaurants that were much, much better. It needs a complete re think. This was the also the view of many of the other guests we spoke to.

The views are fantastic - you can enjoy a drink as you look at the sea and the surrounding beauty. The staff was super lovely and friendly. The design and aesthetic were simple yet elegant. Every room had a balcony with an amazing view. Its a perfect place to get away.

I would have preferred if the breakfast was a buffet (but thats a personal preference) but you can order however many dishes you like and they are decently sized and taste lovely! I do wish they had a pool!

spacious and comfortable room

we really don’t like the breakfast. we stayed in few hotels before visiting Akelare. Also really good hotels. but the breakfast here was big disappointment.

- Rooms: Stunning exterior architectural building, spacious rooms with undisrupted views of the sea, large sized bathroom, all amenities included in room (hairdryer, ironing board, iron), large comfortable bed with a pillow menu section, clean and well organised, free bottle of wine on arrival - Staff & service: Exceptional service in every part of the beautiful building, friendly and helpful staff especially the concierge team, courteous housekeeping, outstanding breakfast selection and service every morning which we thoroughly enjoyed, , daily weather updates with umbrella left in our room. - Location: Convenient indoor/outdoor parking, easy driving access (within 10mins) to San Sebastian town where there was plenty of parking, quiet and serene location

Very minor points: Difficulty connecting phone to room TV, hairdryer in our room was misfunctioning,

Our room was beautiful, the size, comfort, sleek design, size of the walk in closet and luxurious bathroom were all above what I expected. We had a stunning view to the sea. Breakfast was a highlight of our day - the staff was so attentive and the days we were able to eat outdoors were incredible. We will absolutely return!

The TV in our room didn't allow us to link in to the apps. We weren't going to spend much time watching TV, but there is a sound system through the room and bathroom I would have liked to use.

What is terrific here is the quietness of the rooms- no water or other sounds from the rest of the building or neighbours. Modern design and everything worked. Luxury breakfast - not a buffet, Not just the standard hotel choices/brands Staff very well trained. And friendly

No pool. Could do with a working path through the gardens though this would require some thought on privacy of the rooms...Bigger parasols in the outside bar area, Too far from Town to walk.

Stunning views, wonderful staff, exceptional facilities and food (and we only ate in the hotel restaurant not the Michelin starred) - would highly recommend!

Nothing - only thing to note is it’s situated in the hills a little out of San Sebastián so better for a relaxing getaway rather than to use as a base for exploring the city centre.

Very stylish and perfectly done hotel

The Michelin restaurant was not available for us, because was fully booked. It will be very useful to have an option of reservation for the guests of the hotel. It’s not hard to write a message for the guest, and ask for the reservation needed.
