Hotel Shanker

A lovely hotel. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Gorgeous pool and the restaurant area is good. The room we had was a little less luxurious than the lobby but to be expected in an old building. The room was still very comfy and clean with a lovely hot shower. Location was good - a short drive or a 20 minute walk (on a very busy but generally safe road) from Thamel for restaurants and shopping.

Our room and some public areas were very hot (the heating was set high) but everything else was excellent.

A nice, old hotel with cosy atmosphere. Beautiful interiors and the hotel is also a popular wedding avenue. Within walking distance from Thamel and quite short drive from the airport. I liked to stay here with the family - very safe and convenient option away from the hustle but still close enough to everything. We liked the variety in the breakfast. Staff was tentative and they arranged rooms next to each other as we requested.

The view from the window to the backyard. Also, the air conditioning in the room let water in and the room smelled a little when we came. We stayed again but in another room and there was not the same issue.

The hotel has so much character and history. Such a change from generic chains! The building is beautiful, the staff incredibly helpful and friendly. We had a premier suite which was lovely. It was like having a luxury apartment. Room service was great - the food wascdelicious and good value. The pool and the garden are oases of calm in the middle of busy Lazimpat - a quick taxi ride to Thamel and all the sights of Kathmandu. One day the travel desk organised a car to take us to Bhaktapur which was fabulous. Everything seemed affordable and efficient here. Highly recommended!

The bar was a bit quiet, but perhaps that was just bad timing.

the staff were very kind and the hotel was beautiful with very large rooms, nicely decorated. breakfast was also yummy.

There was a wedding on almost every night which was nice to watch but also made it uncomfortable to use the pool area because it adjoined the wedding area - you had to walk through the wedding to access the pool. It was also quite a walk away from Durbar Square (a taxi ride necessary) and the taxis out front overcharged - not the fault of the hotel - walk to the street and you will pay half as much for a taxi

After a 12 day trek to EBC this place was a welcomed surprise. We had always planned on staying somewhere so we could relax for our last 3 days however this place exceeded all expectations. All the staff are so lovely. After playing safe (food wise) on the trek we were craving some different foods. The restaurant has so much choice., and the massage we had was exceptional. The hotel is an oasis from the city and we couldn't have asked for anything better to finish off our holiday.

A lovely well run hotel set in it's own gardens. Staff very accommodating and a good breakfast. I have stayed here twice and this time I had one of the refurbished rooms which was very pleasant (the bathrooms have been fully modernised). It's easily within walking distance into the city centre and there are several perfectly good local restaurants literally minutes outside the front gate. I had an early checkout (0430) and was offered a breakfast box without needing to request it, thanks guys :-)

Everything was fine.

it used to a palace full of history about Kathmandu and Nepal. The staff is extremely polite! The breakfast is good, you find varieties and timing is very flexible.

It is a over 100 years property… if you are used to more modern constructions you may feel the window a bit narrow, the gym could be bigger… however the room was newly renovated, the staff is nice and I realized I was getting all I was paying for

We had problems unlocking our door using the keycard during the first night, but this was resolved by the second day of our stay. Good response time by the staff.

The staff were very attentive and helpful. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds with a swimming pool. We ate in both the bar and the restaurant and the food was very good. The souvenir shop was good and the owner was very helpful. The hotel arranged everything for us via their tour desk.

Not much really. The rooms were a little dark and not very spacious but that was the nature of the rooms. Everything worked fine such as the WiFi and safe.

very nice vintage hotel rooms are big bathrooms are very clean. hotel garden and pool superbed. the staff very very helpfull and friendly breakfast plentiful and varyed we ate dinners at the restaurant and food was fresh and really tasty

hotel needs a lot of tender love and care. it s a bit run down. although beds are very confi as well the have a lot of weddings and they are loud ( some more than others) . the good thing is they normaly finish by 10.30 pm
