Hotel Ambassador by ACE Hotels

The staff were excellent - friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. They are definitely the Ambassador Hotel's greatest asset. The hotel itself, while only a 3*, is in excellent condition and kept spotless. We stayed in a standard room, which was clean, in good order and more than adequate for a long weekend stay. The Japanese restaurant on the 1st floor was excellent, as was the bar/restaurant on the 9th floor. Breakfast in the Diplomat restaurant on the 1st floor was OK too, with a reasonable choice of food. There are also two coffee shops, one inside and the other outside the hotel, which serve a small selection of food and the outside one also sells bread. Coffee was excellent in the inside coffee shop but not so good in the outside one, though the food we had was good.

The free Wi-Fi didn't work in the room and was generally poor throughout the rest of the hotel. The rooms are advertised as soundproof and while the walls and windows are, the door isn't and noise from the corridor can be heard clearly. Fortunately, that wasn't really a problem during our stay but could be if there are noisy neighbours! The TV was of a good quality but seemed to have a fixed volume and, though there were plenty of channels, the programme choices were limited and had no option to pay for other channels. There was only one chair in the room, which isn't enough for two people!

I stayed here before and after hiking the Annapurna circuit. The staff were really friendly and recognised me when I returned from my trek. The reception staff helped arrange a taxi for a trip to monkey temple and advised how much to pay for other journeys around Kathmandu. This was really helpful as I did have to negotiate other journeys with taxi drivers so I had an idea of what was an appropriate cost. The restaurant staff were great, they were attentive, polite and food was quick and delicious. In fact, the roof top restaurant was so good I ate there 4 nights! I didn't have a bad dish the entire time and it was all really reasonably priced. The rooms were clean and really spacious though the bathrooms needed a little tlc. Besides that though the bathrooms were perfectly adequate and one of the best showers I experienced in Nepal. The hotel is on a busy street but once inside there is minimal traffic noise. I heard a couple of sirens but no general rumble of traffic. I spent one night in Thamel on this trip and it was noisy which made me appreciate the location of Hotel Ambassador. The location is just outside the Thamel area, it took about 10 minutes to walk. It requires you to cross streets which is an adventure in Kathmandu but there is usually a local you can stick to and cross when they do! There are lots of little things that made it a great choice, such as bottled water in the rooms, slippers, airport drop off, luggage storage, option of late check out, option of including breakfast. I would happily stay here again.

There were a couple of times when the key card to my room stopped working but that was quickly resolved by reception and didn't impact my stay. As I said before, the bathrooms need a little updating and the toilet was sometimes temperamental in deciding when it would flush but again, this wasn't a big problem and seemed room specific (I was in a different room after my trek and that toilet was fine).

After checking out, I noticed that I had left one of my belongings in the room. Fortunately, it was kept in the hotel's Lost & Found section. Such a thing has never happened in other South Asian countries! (All the hotels just said to me "I don't know.")

I visited Nepal thirty years back and I got "brown" tap water at another five-star hotel. Unfortunately, the tap water was still brown even after the long interval. This might not be the hotel's own problem, though.

Everything you'd expect and even more. Staff are friendly and supportive. The menu options are diverse and worth exploring and spoiling your taste buds. Location is within easy walking distance of shops and the Irish pub is just across the road. The rooms are well appointed and the bed was very comfortable.

The traffic was interesting and crossing roads is an experience. Take care in doing so

Extremely helpful and gracious staff are a big reason to use this hotel. Five minute walk to vibrant Thamel area and also to area of european branded shops and bars. Room was modern, clean, spacious and quiet. Excellent housekeeping,  service and breakfast throughout our stay. Big thank you to staff for going above and beyond to secure our lost phone.

The restaurant for breakfast was relaxing and the food was enough for me. The location was good because it was very near to the office where I held some workshops.

If the detailed information paper on restaurants in the hotel building is provided it must have been better. Though there might have been traffic problem the booked car arrived with approx. 20 minutes delay. This should be improved.

Amazing hospitality perfect location . Friendly atmosphere , staff were very kind, polite with cute smile on their face always . Views from room was mind-blowing . We really enjoy our stay here.

Great food and nice staff

had trouble sleeping because I was on floor below restaurant and I heard noise constantly overhead until after midnight and in the morning they set up for conference. i stayed earlier in the week and had a good room with no issues. just to note for thosw who are sensitive to noise to sleep

Bit too pricey

The room is squeaky clean and spotless every day during our 5 night stay there. All the staff from the Hotel Ambassador are doing their best, above and beyond to make sure our stay is comfortable and memorable. We had stayed in a few other hotels in Kathmandu and nothing can beat the hospitality of the Hotel Ambassador from the room comfortability to the kitchen deliciousness.
