Mahekal Beach Front Resort & Spa

Location was perfect for first time visitors; got to see the real Playa a few blocks away on Avenue 5 and the tourist area which was lovely and catered to dining and beach. Our hotel had vigilant security in all entrances and along the beachfronts, which was public closer to the water. Food at Mahekal was wonderful❣️

I would have really appreciated a hotel shuttle to and from the airport - transportation is a must and our arrival transport was short handed and not able to accommodate our late arrival; however our departure transport was relaxing and perfect.

Great location. Fantastic staff everyone was really friendly and wanted to do anything they could to help. Beautiful setting.

The pools could have done with more regular cleaning (as there tended to be dead insects in the pool by the afternoon - totally understandable and easily fixed by more regular scooping). Would also benefit from more transparency around pricing for the set menu (we paid for the room only and ate at the restaurants a few times - the food was very good but the set menu was expensive and not clear from the menu itself). Would recommend the breakfasts though which worked out about £20 per person and were excellent.

the pools were so nice, restaurants had amazing food but the best of this place is the employees and the service was excellent! everyone was so helpful and nice to us. We have an 8 month old and they were so sweet to her. We will definitely going to come back again!!

the only thing we didn’t like is that some families will use the pool chairs for the entire day since very early, even if they are not there. they leave their stuff and then go to the beach or to eat so all the pool chairs and umbrellas are taken but there is no one inside the pool… I think the resort should not allow this and the policy should be if you leave the pool then you have to take your stuff so other people can take your spot!

the grounds and beach were great. the food at Fuego was really good and the staff was great!

Be careful of what room they put you in! We were out in room 19 first which would have been ok ( room was nice) except it adjoined to the next rooms bathroom so we heard and smelled everything going on in there. it also overlooked the public beach access road so there was no privacy and very very noisy. We moved to a second floor palapa room 65 that was more within the resort which was excellent with an ocean view. I think most of the best rooms have king beds. Changing rooms changed our whole experience.

They were beautiful grounds, the rooms were in great shape, the restaurant right by the water was amazing, the location couldn't be beat. The gave every room a bottle of bug spray (thoughtful and needed). Friday night they had an outdoor movie night that was fun.

I really hated that I received a bill at every meal/bar visit for the tip despite it being all inclusive. We couldn't leave the table until we received our bill and the service at the breakfast restaurant wasn't very good. I wouldn't stay at this hotel again just based off of this. The smaller pool with the swim up bar was REALLY disappointing. It was the kids pool so I'm not sure why it was the chosen pool for the swim up bar (maybe the beachside pool would have been a better choice). The included watersports were 2 paddle boards that you couldn't use past 3pm (they closed). Very lame.

the seaweed on the beach isn't great, also my swim shorts turn out yellow after swimming in the pool and lastly they close of the private beach area for weddings occasionally which isn't great if u pay up for a ocean view cabin on the private beach area

Mahekal is paradise! An amazing lush, green, and calm oasis right on the beach close to the city center but still secluded! We loved walking along the cozy paths that takes you to the different pools and restaurants inside the resort. It was the perfect place to relax and just enjoy the beautiful surrounding. The pools were amazing! Very happy with the food as well.

We were first given a room with two twin beds instead of a king bed that we had requested while booking, but we just had to spend the first night there and were given a new room the next day. That's no issue really, the issue was rather that the first room had a very bad smell of mold. Luckily the new room didn't have that. Something to keep in mind, do request a new room if it smells bad because not all do.

The hotel is totally stunning! Beautiful scenery and beach, amazing food and drinks, super friendly staff, really nice swimming pools and very comfortable and pretty rooms. Also the location is great with lots of nice restaurants, bars and shops just down the road

We had a problem when we arrived with the strong smell in the palapas room we booked, it had rained so perhaps that made the smell worst but when we complained they moved us to another room with a regular ceiling and that was perfect. The beach was very crowded on the Sunday afternoon/ evening when we arrived there (not the hotel’s fault) but the other days were great.

We loved everything about the Mahekal! from start to finish we loved every second we were there, we stayed in a garden Palapa room which was very large and stunning, it felt like an oasis in the jungle. The rooms were very clean and spacious. it is a stunning resort the pool areas are fantastic and never too busy. All the amenities are excellent. The beach front is just exceptional and it feels like a boutique resort in the madness of playa. We had our one year old with us and they treated her like a princess, every staff member was so kind to her and the concierge alan bringing her toys for the beach, also rosa is a treasure!! The staff are probably the best team I had ever experienced such friendly and attentive staff from the ice cream station to the restaurant/bar service they are amazing, sergio, issac, gilberto, Elias, Carlos and all the others that I have forgotten your name. This hotel is worth 5 stars, the staff is incredibly friendly, the food options are delicious and high quality, the hotel is not overcrowded and spacious. Many sunbeds available at the beach throughout the day.

The sea is incredibly beautiful but there's not much sand left due to the ocean current and the sea is slighly smelly. The hotel should have a better control over beach towels as guests take more than one per person.
