Mercure Hotel Trier Porta Nigra

The view of the Porta Nigra was amazing. We loved the restaurant food and wine from the Mosel. The staff was very friendly. Beds comfortable and rooms cool and clean. We will be back!

We left our car in the parking garage while we enjoyed the city a little more after check out and a young gentleman at the desk wouldn’t let me use the restroom when we got back to leave. Just a few hours after checkout!

A nice cot for my 2 year old. With nice clean sheets. Large room even with the cot it was still comfortable. High pressure water in the shower and warm water very quickly. Breakfast was great. Lots of meat options and bread options. Also nice coffee machines. One made milk foam separately which my daughter really loved. We could park the car in the next door parking lot. The hotel provided a card so we didn't have to use the pay machine every time we moved our car out and in.

Pillows were very flat and soft. I tried folding one in the middle but not nice. Some mold in some corners of the bathroom. The bathroom ventilation would turn on automatically and was very loud.

The location of the hotel is perfect being next to the main part of the town for sites and shops. We arrived in the town early, and although the room was not yet ready (fair enough) we were able to park the car in their secure car park, allowing us to walk into town until check in time. Reception very friendly and helpful. Room was big in size and very clean. Nice to have a bath/shower option. Cheap drinks available for the mini bar which was nice for a hotel. Breakfast had plenty of options and all tasted lovely.

Everything was fine, we liked the hotel and the staff were helpful and friendly. The price could always be a bit lower, but I knew what it was when I booked so no real complaints.

We loved the large room with large windows and a big bathroom. It had everything we needed. We especially appreciated the kettle & the tea selection along with it. The bathtub was a true marvel. I thank the hotel that liquid soap was available when washing hands or taking a shower. No one use plastic bottles. No unnecessary plastic waste. I liked the size of the TV & its placement in the room. The street was quiet, we could sleep with an open window, we put A/C off & had a wonderful sleep. Very comfortable beds indeed! :) Breakfast - all you wish to eat. And the staff (reception & restaurant) - very nicely dressed, polite, cleaned the tables briskly, did cater to guests' needs & requests.

There was truly nothing which we did not like.

I really appreciated how quickly the reception responded to my requests. E.g. I booked a room with a bathtub, but my room had none. The reception immediately changed the room to meet my expectation. 2nd request: the kettle in the room was broken. I informed the reception and within two minutes an employee brought me a brand new kettle to prepare my hot drinks with. 3rd request: I needed to keep my luggage at the hotel after I checked out. No problem at all. They kept it safe for me during the time I visited the town. I loved that I could open the window & get fresh air in my room. Some hotels only run A/C and keep the windows locked. The breakfast was fresh with plenty of choice. I like that the time for breakfast is from 6:30-10:30 so guests can attend to it as per their needs. I liked the view of Porta Nigra from the restaurant. I liked that there was enough distance between the tables so we did not disturb each other. The location is perfect. Walking distance to the main train station. Few steps into the old town. 2km from Arena where the company 5km run was starting. Thank you Mercure Porta Nigra & see you again soon.

One young lady receptionist could learn to smile more when speaking with clients & her colleagues.

Breakfast was great! We are just coming out of Covid lockdowns so things weren't quite up to pre-Covid however the buffet breakfast was great, a good selection and everything tasted brilliant. This might sound simple but you would be surprised just how many hotels get this wrong. The rooms were comfortable and airy and we had a view of the Porta Nigra as it was right outside the window, could not ask for more!

The hotel is starting to look a little dated, small things like the lifts bounced at the end and creaked at the start also our bath tap and soap dish was bent down slightly and the soap dish, like I said very very minor things.

We received a free upgrade to one of their suites which was enormous with a spectacular view at the Porta Nigra. The underground parking was connected to the hotel and did cost € 17 for 24 hours. Breakfast was ok.

Minibar was empty only a beverage machine was located in front of the reception. No room service, no explanations (brochure whatever) in the room about the facilities or WiFi password etc.

Perfect location for a visit to Porta Negra. We stayed one night here on our way through Germany and we had plenty of time to visit the centre of town as it is literally across the road from the hotel. Facilities in the hotel were as you would expect from a Mercure. Comfortable room and breakfast was good. The bonus is the parking underneath the hotel.

Very good location and the room was nice and large. We had a baby accident at night and staff come upstairs to help us and clean. We were given a fresh baby mattress and sheets for the cot as well.

It did not have a fridge, which I think is very impractical especially for families e.g. keeping baby's milk and snacks.

Lovely, warm hotel. Often rooms are cold when one first arrives at a hotel , but not here. Restaurant and public areas also well heated. Staff helpful, fulfilled several small requests very quickly. Bistro provided nice food. Magnifying mirror in bathroom, which is really useful AND, very rare, it is mounted so that shorter as well as taller people can use it. Room carpeted, not hard floor, which makes the floor warm and comfortable.
