Le Panoramic

The Panoramic is a fine modern hotel perched impressively on a cliff looking out on the rolling vineyards of Sancerre. It is worth noting that the rooms with a street view are half the price of the rooms overlooking the vines. The "view" is available from the long public balcony on that side of the hotel where wine can be enjoyed and satisfactory photograph made. We liked the street side as we could keep an eye on our car parked below. There is no secure parking but, at least in October, there were plenty of spaces where parking was perpendicular the the high wall of the hospital grounds. It is a ten minute walk to the top of the hill where there seems to be ample public parking. There is much of interest in restaurants, wine bars, and antique selling at the top of the hill. The attached photos show the Google maps view and the parking across the street. After tasting several pedigrees of the real Sancerre in that balcony, we tried a Pouilly-Fumé which is apparently a generally less tart wine, though still made from the Sauvignon Blanc grape. It was, but ultimately we ended up buying a few bottles of Pouilly-sur-Loire (a separate appellation) in the nearby town of Pouilly-Fumé to take home. This white wine is made from the Chasselas grape and is much less acidic. The curious obsession with the Sauvignon Blanc grape is, one might say thankfully, partially displaced by less acid fruit in the more westerly appellations of the Loire Valley

I did not like the tart "true" Sancerre, but everyone else seems to disagree.

The proximity to lots of shops and restaurants in Sancerre (we ate at Sacrapanti), the hotel wine bar (lots of good wines to choose from), the swimming pool with views over the vineyards, free parking just opposite, our baby monitor reached the bar terrace, the hotel breakfast had a good selection of hot food (egg/sausages) and pastries, cereal, yoghurt with nuts and seeds etc.

Not really a negative for us but it looks like they are currently adding to their hotel and renovating the property next door. There wasn’t any building work happening whilst we were there but we only stayed one night on a Sunday. I imagine their prices reflect the possibility of work being done. In any case, we would be excited to see the hotel again once the work is complete!

The Panoramic (as you might guess) offers some stunning views out over the Sancerre vineyards. The views are both from the vineyard side rooms and also from the pool which is on the patio overlooking the vineyards. The hotel is located about half way up the hill that Sancerre is built on - so about a 5 minute walk to the centre of the historic city. There is free parking directly opposite the hotel - but this is on a first come basis so you may be unlucky. The bar also has a balcony so you can have wine from their wine list while watching the sun set over the vineyards

The location is perfect for exploring Sancerre and the surrounding area. The facilities and staff were exceptional, and the views overlooking the valley from the main balcony were amazing. Should you want a romantic weekend here make sure you book a room overlooking the valley.

Although the breakfast was excellent, unfortunately there is no restaurant for an evening meal. Make sure you book a table in advance somewhere as there are not that many restaurants in Sancerre open all week.

Our room was on the side of the hotel with a wonderful view across the local vineyards and hills. The pool area was lovely and clean and great for the kids to relax after a long drive. It is also an easy walk to the centre of Sancerre (it is already on top of the hill) for the shops, cafés and restaurants. We had bikes with us to explore further afield and the hotel has a locked area for them.

It would be good if they had some provision for evening meals since the local restaurants are very busy and you need to think about booking ahead for your dinner.

Hotel is in a great situation within Sancerre but with tremendous views of the countryside vineyards and the sunset. The outdoor pool is wonderful very refreshing after the heat of the day. Breakfast had a good range of food including gluten free options. We enjoyed a walk around Sancerre after breakfast delightful town although we suspect that during the French holiday season it will get very busy but in June the shopkeepers were happy to chat with our attempts at speaking French

Our room faced onto the street whilst the other side of the corridor had the views onto the pool and countryside. Its pot luck I suppose but well worth requesting if that is important to you. ( we would certainly ask if we return again) It was 20 euros for the dog which is becoming more common as until recently most hotels charged 10 euros

The view from this hotel is absolutely stunning, out over the vineyards into Chavignol. The location otherwise is also fabulous, although I suspect the roadside rooms might be a bit noisy. The pool is fantastic - a good size, with generous towels and comfortable chairs, at a pretty perfect temperature (and, again, with that glorious view). The wine list is very carefully chosen, with some true gems.

Our room was gloriously situated, but it was over the wine bar balcony, and there were a number of people out there who were very noisy on both nights. I'm not sure what the hotel can do about this, but perhaps insisting they come inside when the wine bar has stopped serving would be a start...

Excellent hotel with a modern feel in great location with beautiful views over the vinyards from the bar and breakfast room. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Rooms are a good size with comfortable beds. Tea and coffee facilities in the room as well as toiletries. Lots of choice locally within a short walk for food and drink. The bar is good but expensive. There is no parking on site but opposite is public parking and in this quiet town it's not a problem.

Breakfast is plentiful with a good choice but at €15 per person a bit expensive.

Modern hotel. We had a city view room which was quite small but adequate. Good hotel facilities. Great bar and breakfast room overlooking a view of the vines to die for. .Great pool although unfortunately we hit a cold spell and didn't use it. Lovely helpful staff. Easily found free parking right across the street against the ramparts.

Nothing, except maybe a small fridge in the room would be helpful.

This is a very modern boutique hotel a few minutes walk from the center of Sancerre. Everything feels new shiny. As the name suggests, the rooms on one side of the hotel have an exceptional view of the valley of vineyards. If your room is on the other side, you still get to enjoy this view in the lounge and at breakfast.

The bike storage was secure but in fact your bike is left outside, which would be undesirable on a rainy day.
