Mercure Poitiers Centre

Architecture, internal design , spaciousness, ambience, sense of history updated to high standards of modern comfort .Reception staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Spacious bedroom and bathroom- very comfortable bed.

The shower tray was very , very slippery- we were forced to put the bath mat in there to avoid falling - must have been a nightmare for the chambermaid to sort out. The restaurant was overpriced and over formal- lots of waiters running hither and thither but none asked if we wanted an aperitif and one or two subsequent requests were forgotten. The food was good but by no means outstanding. A case of style over substance! As for breakfast at 18 euros? We ate at a cafe round the corner and spied other Mercury guests doing the same, for 8 euros..And no proper TEA in the bedroom.

Booked this hotel last minute, after the first hotel we booked had broken a/c and it was 100 degrees Fahrenheit and very humid. The hotel was beautiful and the staff spoke English which was welcome since we were already very jet lagged and had just driven almost 3 hours from Paris. The room and view was gorgeous and we loved how the bed was upstairs and the rest of the room was downstairs. There was also room service and our room included breakfast. Since we had a rental car, they also told us we could park at the theater across the way.

The service we received from the staff was incredible, my colleague and I had both booked 1 room and for some reason Booking.com had cancelled my room, it was not a problem for the staff, they immediately gave us a room. When we arrived at the room it had a bedroom up a narrow flight of stairs which was difficult for my colleague as she had problems with stairs due to a medical problem. On enquiry the staff then happily moved us to another room that had no stairs and they were so lovely about it. The breakfast was absolutely delicious with many choices and everything nice and fresh

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Car park was nearby, just a short walk from the hotel. Lovely, historic building. Good room and enjoyable dinner in the restaurant, housed in a former chapel. Good breakfast.

brilliant location, comfortable room, great staff & good breakfast. the interior structure of the hotel is beautiful.

parking was an issue as we had a roof box (essential for our travel) which made it too high for the car park used by the hotel. we had to pay a separate charge for parking in the centre of town. we were most fortunate to get a space allocated for higher vehicles as there’s a very limited number. we’d love to return to the hotel but concerned that next time we wouldn’t be able to park our car.

A nice spot to stay in Poitiers (on route up to Calais), close to the town centre. The restaurant is a huge standout - I highly recommend reserving when you may your booking - it was really special and unexpected! The rooms are small but have everything you need.

Parking is nearby at the theatre car park (as advertised) - but it's definitely worth parking up outside the hotel to unload luggage if you have any as there's a hill from the car park.

Lovely stay, the hotel has been converted from a chapel and it's great to see the arches etc everywhere. Staff were all super friendly and helpful. We got a couple drinks from the bar and sat upstairs, where it was nice and peaceful but you could also see the busy restaurant downstairs. All in all a great stay.

Cleaning seems to start quite early so it was a bit noisy in the hall in the morning.

The service was fantastic, we had an issue because our booking got cancelled but the staff were amazing and gave us another room without hesitation, when we realised they had given us a double bed instead of 2 singles we were given the option of another room immediately. Breakfast was very nice, a great selection and everything was lovely and fresh

We loved the way the hotel was converted to leave the church’s features. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the breakfast choices were varied and delicious.

Lift was a bit slow when people were going to breakfast on floor 2 and we were trying to get in with luggage.

The restaurant was very good, the meal was delicious, and it was visibly liked by people, since it is was full in the middle of the week. The whole space was very interesting, modern together with historic. It was visible in the corridors the building used to be a church before.

The room was quite narrow, with the toilet and bathroom on opposite ends. The free wifi was not stable and kept kicking me off.
