HOTEL AMBASSADEUR

Great little two star hotel located smack bang in the middle of Lille. I visited in early July 2023. Location: 10 minute walk from Lille Europe (top tip, cut through Gare de Lille Flandres). Hotel directly opposite side entrance to Gare de Lille Flandres. Three brasseries and a Carrefour City right outside. 10 minute walk to La Grande Place, 10-15 minute walk to Tourist Office. Gare de Lille Flandres connects you with lots of interesting places such as Arras (27 Euros return for 1 Adult). Room: I was travelling alone and had room 603. This is on the top floor and in the middle of the building when you stand outside. Good view, very French. Room had queen size bed I think, mattress not too soft or hard for me, slept quite well on it after a couple of nights; small bathroom through sliding door containing toilet, shower, sink, illuminated mirror; small cupboard for one; small desk for one; two windows and one set of French doors so plenty of light and ventilation; thick blackout curtains; no air conditioning so had to keep windows open at night during (remember to bring insect repellent); laminated wooden or polymer floor; hotel sends you a QR code to your phone to open both the room and hotel main entrance (top tip, don't put your phone right up to the lock, hold it a couple of inches away). Staircase: traditional French looking spiral staircase with traditional French looking lift running up its centre. Breakfast: small dining room on first floor with seating for between 15-20 people. Very generous. Coffee machine offering various styles of coffee and hot water for tea; tea bags provided; Fresh baguette, fresh brown seeded loaf; two different types of brioch/sweet bread; pain au chocolats, croissants, a selection of conserves; muesli, mixed nuts and dried fruit; in the fridge they had various fruit juices, plain and flavoured yoghurts, small portions of butter and brie, fresh milk; a fruit bow. Staff: all very young, polite and helpful.

Air conditioning would have been nice.

The room set aside for breakfast was well stocked and nice - no problem. I enjoyed the cereal and Cappuccino the best. Being 76 and vulnerable I did inadvertently cancelled my QR and was amazed as the two helpers opened my door automatically for me and sent me by email another QR. The alternative would have been a cold sleep n the nearby railway station and waiting until the morning for a member of staff to appear. Thank you - all was very well including unexpectantly catching the Toulouse v Munster rugby match on TV in my room! THANK YOU.

HONESTLY NOTHING WAS NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THE ROOM. MY ONLY REGRET IS WASTING TOO MUCH MONEY ON TAXIS WHICH I COULD HAVE SAVED IF I HAD FULLY REMEMBERED MY PREVIOUS THREE VISITS - A 'TUBE OR METRO; TYPE CARD IS NEEDED FOR LILLE. I WAS VERY IMRESSED WITH THE PROSPERITY OF THE TOWN AND SHEER VARIETY OF SHOPS AND RESTAURANTA

I chose this hotel due to the location to the train station and bus stop. We arrived by bus from England and being the first time in Lille this hotel matched our criteria. The barcode scan is a pretty cool system to getting into the hotel and the hotel room. very cosy room. Nothing fancy but we plan to walk around all day anyways and just needed a bed to sleep. Breakfast was perfect ! croissants and great coffee machine. A cold water filter to fill up your water bottle. Fruits, nuts etc. Restaurants close by, and close to popular landmarks. Now that I have been to Lille and know the area I can explore for next time

As a note if you get hot easy at night this hotel may not work for you. There is no A/C which I was aware of before booking.

My shower had temperature issues, which were raised by the hotel, I just thought I had a bad shower. Was getting a little chilly. Shower stall was small if you are over 6 ft, wouldn’t be nice The lift makes an odd sound. Thee we stamp inside the lift said it had being serviced in June 23, hopefully just an age creaky. It does happen every time. If noise bothers you, bring ear plugs

The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from Lille Europe. There are lovely restaurants and a large shopping mall near around. People at the reception desk are friendly. The room is clean and bright, with a private bathroom and hairdryer. It is a nice place for those travelers who have to come back late at night and are concerned about safety.

Since the room windows face the street, noises from the street may disturb sleep for people who are from places that are not as lively as Lille. It would be nice to bring noise-canceling earplugs if you usually have trouble sleeping and are sensitive to sounds at night.

Really nice, modern room with a beautiful view of the city streets. It was an excellent location of the hotel and even a tiny table for work which I needed! The staff was also lovely!

The toilet/shower room was incredibly small size, didn't know it was even possible, so for someone who requires more space this wouldn't be suitable. We also found a used towel behind a curtain in our room, we only stayed one night and we noticed it just before we left, I believe it was an honest mistake. But also the bathroom didn't have any hand soup which was disappointing. Otherwise it was really perfect, clean room.

like many people, I needed a decent though basic hotel room a short walk from Lille’s train stations. Like many hotels of this class, there is an inauspicious doorway (currently with roadworks outside fixing, I think, either drains or water supply, suggested by the very drainy smell which abounded!) but I was greeted with friendliness and efficiency at the desk, and was very pleasantly surprised by my room which was compact, but very clean, windows had been left open for air, and it was a very easy walk through the old part of the city to find somewhere to eat/explore. I felt the room rate I received was very good value for money, comparatively, and that this was a decent, serviceable hotel which fulfils its function nicely as a central, simple base for passing through or exploring Lille on a budget. You are on a busy junction but I enjoyed the sounds of life, and its proximity to everything.

At present there seems to be a smell of drains but you can’t blame the hotel for that, and with the windows open until I went to sleep it wasn’t noticeable. Then I just opened the windows again in the morning. Had I been staying for a week it might have bothered me, but it in no way impacted on one pleasant one night stay.

The location is great, the bed is comforble, many stores and restaurants are nearby, the QR code for accessing the building and the room.

The lift door often does not close correctly, which blocks the lift. The bathroom has a very loud noise of air extraction, I suspect the extractor fan on the roof makes the roar in the bathroom even worse. The door rattles when someone opens or shuts the door in the hallway. The QR code use has a learning curve.

Location is perfect, room is nice, it has all you need, except for fridge and glasses (if you need those☺️), bed is comfy, room temperature is good, windows are soundproof, so even though you’re right at the central railway station you don’t hear excessive noise or traffic. Personnel is friendly and attentive. Wifi works well.

Found black hair on the bathroom floor and noise from inside the hotel (no noise heard from outside though). Nevertheless, the overall experience was good.

Great price, nice, clean room, and a comfy bed. The contactless key system worked fine. Staff were very helpful. Can't really complain!

Whilst the location is ideal being opposite Gare d' Flandres in the city centre, the area did seem to attract some dodgy people who were continually shouting and drinking. It's not a problem in the day, but be aware if you're staying in hotels near the station, particularly at night.
