Hotel au Grand Saint Jean

We have stayed in this hotel many times over the years as it is just right for a stop-over en route to Southern France or beyond. Its location within town is perfect - just outside the ring road but within just a few minutes walking distance from the main town centre. Parking is secured by a barrier and there is plenty of space (but note there is an additional charge). Breakfast is very tasty with freshly baked bread and croissants, fruit, yoghurts, meats, cheese, eggs, cake and pancakes as well as juice and hot drinks. The rooms are fairly functional but spacious enough, clean and comfortable.

The hotel is currently being renovated - this wasn't a problem and did not disturb us but works were taking place (summer 2023). The old family who ran the hotel for many years were no longer there which was sad.

The hotel is in an excellent location with the Hospices de Beaune and all shops/restaurants within easy walking distance. The buffet breakfast was very good and when the renovations are complete it will be a very good spot.

We had a room that had been renovated and was very good. But part of the hotel is still under renovation so there was a lot of disruption.

Location, friendly and helpful staff, free parking 200 metres away, quality and range at breakfast, size and comfort of large double bed. Very good value for money.

As other reviewers have noted, the hotel IS dated. It could certainly benefit from a rethink in the layout of the foyers on each floor, the really awful wall colour scheme and the reception area. This would make such a difference to the attractiveness of the hotel. It won't help with the very thin walls, though. They do transmit noise from adjacent rooms... every kind of noise 😉

When we arrived, we were booked into the St. Jean. However, the room was not as expected (i.e., the air conditioner wasn't working as it should and the shower was not fully correct.) When we brought this to the attention of the staff, they confirmed the situation and provided us with another room that was great. The location to the old town of Beaune was fantastic!!! We enjoyed the trip and would not hesitate to suggest this hotel.

While we had some issues, they were addressed quickly and to our satisfactions. Indeed, we felt the hotel and staff were fantastic in all possible ways.

very central location in walking distance from the city centre. free parking is available across the street or paid parking available in the hotels under ground car park. rooms are simple and somewhat old fashioned but adds to the charm of the place. friendly staff abd very efficient check in. very good value rates and perfect for one or two nights stay to explore the fabulous city of Beaune! I will be returning.

Nothing … for the price all me expectations were met.

The hotel had an excellent location, very close to the historical city centre. We loved the large and secure private parking for a reasonable price. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Also we got a good recommendation for the dinner at a restaurant nearby. The room was small but comfortable and stylish. The breakfast was good enough and the staff replenished quickly the meals/drinks which were consumed.

Our window was facing to a wall so the view and the airflow was a bit limited.

This hotel is in the centre of Beaune so for the area is very good value for money. We asked for a quiet room at the back which we got..unfortunately the air-conditioning unit was right outside the window and was very noisy with the window open. however, regardless of the heat at the time, the air conditioning was really efficient so much so that we ended up turning it off and still having a comfortable night. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Central location was perfect for ease of walking to shops and restaurants. Staff couldn’t have been more friendly and conversed easily in both French and English. We suspect our room had been recently redecorated and was of a pleasing standard. We would definitely stay there again.

Having to pay for the car park, when we booked we thought it was included.

The location was perfect. Just a short walk from the Centre Ville excellent restaurants and only a 10min walk from the train station. The bathroom was impeccable clean and modern for a value hotel.

The TV was very small and installed very high near the ceiling. My neck hurt from looking up after watching a TV show.

The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic and there is a lot of potential for it to be a great hotel. We were told that the hotel is u feed ping a huge refurbishment and we look forward to seeing that and will definitely return.

it is very dated and the walls are very thin, so we were kept awake by other noises. the bed wasn’t comfortable.
