Hôtel Le Choiseul

The location of Hotel Le Choiseul right by the river and the town of Amboise was excellent, and it was very easy to walk to the Amboise Chateau Royal and the Da Vinci home Clos Luce. We stayed in our own "cottage" like room #10 on the ground floor with a terrace. The staff were wonderful and had great communication by email before we arrived arranging a taxi to pick us up from the Amboise train station and making a dinner reservation at Le Parvis in advance for the day we arrived. The room was spacious and the air conditioning worked well. We were glad that we chose this hotel.

There was no chef for the buffet breakfast so the eggs were cold.

Our favourite place to stay when in Amboise. The weather was extremely hot so we headed straight for the swimming pool on arrival and were the only guests there until late afternoon. Our room was comfortable and decorated in chic French style. The highlight of our stay was the exceptional dinner in the restaurant which has views over The Loire river.

Parts of the bathroom looked a little tired like the grout and peeling sealant around the bath but it did not detract from our wonderful stay.

This is a good quality hotel that deserves its 4 stars. excellent a/c for an old property. nice pool. Hotel accepts dogs.

The restaurant aims at high quality, and is pricey for what you get but is clearly struggling to get enough staff ( not alone in that problem these days). excellent starter and desert, excellent fish, but my duck was badly cooked and chewily inedible. wine was put out of reach to be served as part of the quality service, but there was never anyone there to pour it. somellier seemed surprised by the fact that wine served was of a different vintage to that priced on the carte, when I pointed this out. Laudable ambition, but improvement needed to justify its price. No dog friendly area in or near restaurant where we could eat as a family

The hotel is old, but in good condition. Although our room faced a main street, it was extremely quiet as it had double layers of windows. The breakfast room was very classy with a wide variety of options. Ate in the main dining room just once, but the experience was very good.

The bar/lounge was usually reserved for special events and, although the outside tables near the restaurant were in a sunny location, service was usually not available unless we sought out a server.

We loved the hotel architecture and room design. The rooms are clean and have a beautiful character. We had dinner at the restaurant; it was a true fine dining experience and the quality exceeded our expectations, it was lovely! The personnel is very helpful and friendly. Although something went wrong with the restaurant reservation for the evening, the personnel was extremely helpful in finding a solution and to secure a table for us. The breakfast had everything one could wish for, including wonderful scrambled eggs and bacon, and the garden is beautiful to unwind and relax; we did it with a Kir Royale. There is a pool area, which is inviting but which we did not use. We would definitely want to come back again. The hotel is located only a few minutes by foot from the center and it was great that parking was offered on the hotel premises for free.

Unfortunately, the reservation for the restaurant which we made well in advance was not documented properly... but the personnel did a wonderful job in finding a solution for us and securing a table. Unfortunately, there were quite some stairs, steps and no elevators. For anyone carrying heavy bags it is recommened to have a room at the ground floor. But apart from that, I can't really think of anything else...

Breakfast was well laid out, and in a wonderful setting, however, with an hour left to go, there was little refreshing of the choices. That was disappointing. The classic room with queen bed was smaller than expected and bed itself uncomfortable. Time to improve this.

- very good location close to the downtown and the castle - the hotel’s location in very atmospheric historical mansion which gave special vibes - the rooms were spacious

- the breakfast options once depleted were not quickly replenished, there was a breakdown in the chain of command

A hotel in a graceful building and beautiful garden setting. It is five minutes walk to the town centre with restaurants bars etc. Good parking. The service from all the staff was top quality. our room was large and well furnished. Special mention needs to be made of the restaurant which is top class.

The shower is rather old fashioned and the bed though comfortable was also a little dated. our only possible complaints.

The staff were very good and looked after us extremely well. The restaurant had wonderful views over the Loire, the food was imaginative and the sweetbreads were the best I've ever tasted. The location was great, a ten minute amble to the chateau and plentiful coffee stops. It was good to have secure parking off the main road adding to the ease of booking in and out.

Breakfast was exceptional. Dinner in the restaurant was fantastic. The hotel is in a great location. Very easy to get to the Centre of town and being right by the river has great views from parts of the hotel. Swimming pool was refreshing. Staff were very helpful and could not have done more to make my stay so great.

Pool could be warmer. Room was quite a long trek from reception, but very large and characterful.
