Hôtel Birks Montréal

Luxurious and fabulous are the first two words that come to mind when I think of our four-night stay at the Hotel Birks in Montreal. Some highlights: *Location! Very central to much of what we wanted to see on our first trip to this marvelous city *Amenities abound - it's really beautiful with gorgeous furnishings and decor, all sparkling clean *Staff - incredibly friendly and helpful front desk staff with terrific recommendations and cheerful personalities. Housekeepers and valets/doormen were also delightful, as was the crew in the hotel restaurant the night we dined there *Room - captivating in its design with high ceilings, plush bedding, an in-room gas fireplace and a beautiful two-sink bathroom with a massive shower with two different head options - rain and handheld Hotel Birks is not the best choice for the budget-minded, but it was worth every penny we splurged. If our travels every bring us back to Montreal, we'd stay here again without hesitation. It's absolutely divine!

The only critique I have is their idea of a "garden view" (see photo). Our room overlooked a section of ceiling that was done up with faux plant life and artificial turf. Not exactly what we expected, needless to say. Though we did appreciate that this "view" likely meant our room was more quiet in comparison to others, I'd suggest travelers save their money and skip the "garden view" upcharge

The size of rooms, cleanness and location.

This was actually our second stay. We used this hotel four days earlier and then came back. Thus, I am including the whole experience that I had with this hotel here. The phone never worked well from our rooms ( we had 2 rooms) front desk phone was almost always busy. Once, however, we called in-room dining, and they will tell us to call the front desk, and front desk will then tell us to call in-room dining… In-room dining took our order finally but 35 mins later told us that the oven was broken abc they cannot fill in our orders…We were wondering why after 35 minutes or so wait… Also, some of the menu like wine menu is not shown on the website to order, so we had to go down to the restaurant to see the wine menu… Very confusing but they had good wine and food.

the location was great, there was plentiful sunlight through our room and despite it being on the second floor it felt spacious. The staff made a few mistakes in pricing but they made up for it which was satisfactory. the room was spacious with big windows which was a plus and a big bathtub.

The price of 600 cad per night for a room that is a classic is quite high. We ended up staying at a grand deluxe as the staff was kind enough to fix their mistake by giving us an upgrade. We wished our room had a fireplace as we had requested it specifically in advance and we also hoped the hotel would have room in the spa but the spa was unavailable.

Antonio and Theodore were absolutely excellent. He was very personable and friendly. Ella at the front desk did an excellent job helping us with a couple of things we were trying to resolve. Housekeeping had to be reminded to clean our room day 1 of our 3 day stay. They finally cleaned it around 5pm. I wish the spa had more availability and was open on Monday. We were unable to get a massage or use the facilities. We ate at Henri two nights and Oliver and the other gentleman behind the bar were very good. The duck was dry, the filet was excellent. The Henri Platter and beef tartare were excellent as well. Room service delivered eggs benedict without any salt and pepper. It was very bland. Otherwise, very happy with the kitchen.

Housekeeping had to be reminded to clean our room day 1 of our 3 day stay. They finally cleaned it around 5pm. I wish the spa had more availability and was open on Monday. We were unable to get a massage or use the facilities. One day our car was parked on the surface all day long to make room while moving cars the in the garage?

I loved everything about The Birks! I’ve traveled extensively and stayed in beautiful hotels. This one is, now, right at the top of my list. I knew it was something very special the moment I walked through the door. It’s historic and beautifully decorated. I could have sat in the lobby all day. The people who work at The Birks were wonderfully friendly, helpful and very patient as I attempted to converse in French. The hotel has an intimate boutique vibe and offers the amenities of a larger hotel. The best of both worlds. My room was gorgeous! The fireplace made it especially cozy. My bathroom was well stocked with luxurious towels, robes and amenities. The floor to ceiling windows in my room offered a lovely view of St. Phillips Square and the sitting chair was the perfect perch for a late day respite. Room service: I ordered three meals. All we’re delicious, beautifully presented and arrived very quickly- within 20 minutes of ordering. Housekeeping: I elected to be planet friendly and not have my room cleaned. This is a common practice for me whenever I stay less than four days. That said, the housekeeping staff were wonderful and very kind. I came back to my room everyday with bottled water waiting outside my door.

I only have one suggestion and that would be for the hotel to offer a slightly lighter room service menu, especially through the late afternoon and evening hours.

The location is absolutely perfect in the heart of downtown. The hotel was beautiful and the suite was very nice. Unfortunately the room was not ready at the 4:00 check-in time. When we were alerted that the suite was ready we arrived and there was trash bags and housekeeping in the room. We were offered a complimentary drink in the bar for the inconvenience. The other notable mistake was our terrace. There are large wooden dividers that a covered in faux greenery between balconies to offer privacy. We had the largest balcony in the hotel and one of our wooden dividers had completely broken off at the base and was all over the balcony with many exposed nails and broken wood on the balcony. This was a little unexpected and concerning. I must note that the staff was exceptional.

Check in time ran late and was still not ready at 5:00 Balcony as stated.

The staff at front desk was amazing upon my check in and check out. And room service staff were prompt and polite.

I could not get an earlier check in so had to pay 700.00 to put my personal belongings in room then go home for night in Montreal. I needed to get ready for a wedding at 2pm and needed my room then so checking in on day of wedding was impossible. I was the florist for the wedding and family so had to work at 8am then run to get ready. I found the staff not very accommodating for this. I've travelled all over the world and was surprised Birks would not help with this. Also for 700.00 I would have expected to have coffee cups in my room.....there were none. Best thing was the super comfortable bed !!!

Sophistication and luxury best describes this hotel. With its 12 foot ceilings, chic decor and state-of-art amenities, Birks reflects a grand elegance of by-gone days where one's bed is turned down for the night. The location is central, i.e. close to all the shops yet is walking distance to Old Montreal. A Metro (subway) station was also close by. We found all the staff very friendly, professional and helpful. The room was large and comfortable as was the bed. The room had a shower stall with both hand-held and and rain type shower heads. There was good pressure and the water warmed up quickly. Robes and slippers were available in-room.

Some of the e-mails exchanges were in French only from their end. Bilingual messaging would have been preferred. We were promised a receipt for our stay through e-mail but after two weeks without receiving anything an e-mail was sent re-requesting the receipt which was then sent. This was a minor issue and the hotel responded quickly once we advised them about it.

Each and every staff member were absolutely amazing, so kind and helpful. Our room was exactly how it looked in the photos and the cleanliness was 10/10. Absolutely amazing stay and will definitely be back when visiting Montreal.
