The Lakes Resort Cairns

The space and location were both great

Had no idea how to get in at first. Contacted the phone number and was told they will call me back in the interim asked some random who directed us to the lock box. Thankfully found the keys as still no call back by the time we checked out after 4 days! The aircon didn’t work in the room and lounge area. The drains in the shower were blocked and hardly drained. The kitchen had a very strange stagnant water smell. The fridge was leaking and defrosting and most of our Christmas food went off as a result. Attempted to contact the support number multiple times and no answer at all. Also sent text messages and no response at all. Pretty disappointing considering the price we paid to stay there and no communication whatsoever.

staff were amzing, especially at the little coffee and breakfast place she was wonderful and the ffod and cooffes were delicious. Staff at rteception were friendly and very helpful, perhaps a few hours open on the Saturday and Sunday would be good, the gym unfortunatly was closed as was the sauna. Also a place to buy some basic products would make it a bit easier for tennets. and some beqach balls etc for the pool. but overall I loved the experience will give very positive feedback to my friends and would definately come back to stay.

Nice comfortable property. Stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment. Beds were comfortable. Kids enjoyed the main pool area. Had bbq facilities, so can just chill out there. Close to the botanical gardens and Mount Whitfield, so enjoyed going out on morning walks.

It’s about 3kms away from the town centre. We hired a car for our stay which really opened up the opportunities to explore the area and beyond and visit the many natural wonders the surrounding area has to offer. The kitchen had basic facilities, so was hard if you are preparing most of your meals, but it was enough for us to get by.

It was beautiful, I will request this room next time we are in Cairns. The room was everything we needed and more. I loved the homely touches it had and my husband loved the coffee machine. We enjoyed that it was close to the hockey fields and that we could walk there.

The very very steep driveway into the garage of our building and the lack of parking in the complex. Also how small the parks were. But this was ok in the end when we figured that the hockey grounds were walking distance and didnt really need to move our car too much. This would be very annoying if we were holidaying and took the car out alot.

Loved the pools, gardens and wonderful onsite cafe. All staff were friendly and helpful. Lady who served us at cafe (Aussie with dark hair) was a stand out, really lovely and made great coffee too! I liked that we had a reserved car park and full laundry facilities. Good water pressure in shower and aircon in bedroom and main living both worked well and quietly. Apartment and common areas (pools etc) were very clean. Nice and private.

Rollerway bed was uncomfortable, pillows not to our liking but that’s probably personal preference. Small balcony meant we couldn’t dine out there but we ate by the pool instead in one of the gazebos.

Very spacious apartment (3 bed), exceptionally clean, great pools. Four pools, each large, but different configuration (so variety for kids/one lap pool for exercise). Fantastic for family vacation (grandparents, mum/dad and two kids). Grounds were lovely - well tended. Thai restaurant on site was authentic, great food and well priced ($20 per meal). I highly, highly recommend the restaurant. IGA express was five mins away (using the back gate) and had basics. Ubers into Cairns were approx. $20 (max) for 6-seater /$12 for 4-seater each way. Also, the Cairns aquarium was well worth a visit - the talks by staff were informative, and the layout was easy to follow, my kids preferred it to Sydney Sealife (which is their top pick in Sydney).

The only downside was that it’s not a hotel, it’s self catered apartments, and as such reception isn’t open on weekends or public holidays, so there wasn’t anywhere to leave our bags. We found a bag drop place in Cairns (96 Lake street) which was great ($10 per bag - and was well set up for travellers waiting for connections). There were midges at the resort - I got bitten quite a bit, but wasn’t mosquitoes and wasn’t nearly as bad as mosquitoes. Friends who are local said they’re common throughout Cairns and particularly along the esplanade, and advised repellent.

The room was spacious, loved the outdoor undercover balcony area, and the pool was amazing. loved that we were able to access the pool from our room.

Was a bit far away from the heart of cairns, glad we had a car. The garage door wouldn’t open with the remote. Staff were not overly helpful with tour bookings. we also had tvs and fridge’s delivered to our room without any prior knowledge and the delivery people were given a master key to enter our room without permission which I found quite worrying that staff would give out keys to anyone with no supervision

Great variety of pools, great on-site Thai restaurant, and good location a few minutes away from the heart of Cairns. Great holiday vibe of the resort overall. Good air con.

Being on a ground level next to the pool was good, but not so good if ppl didn't respect the 10pm pool closure time. Also the undercover parking we were in leaked some sort of weird air conditioning fluid which stained our rental car like paint. It came off, but if we didn't have full insurance coverage we may have had to pay. Our showerhead also needed replacing as it had some small spray leak which you'd expect would be fixed given the $$$ you're paying to stay there.

How beautiful and relaxing the place was and the 2brm apartment was very clean and roomy. We loved the space and enjoyed every minute we stayed there. We loved the enclosed balconies as when you opened the sliding doors from inside you could sit out there and hear the waterfalls from the pools and that was relaxing.

I had a big car, and beside my car space under the apartment was another big van, so my car could not fit beside it as the car spot was small and beside a concrete post. So I had to park outside the complex out on the street. Other than that it was one of the best places I have stayed in.

It’s a welcoming, safe and well maintained location, very close to everything you need. The apartment is clean, spacious and comfortable. The bed was perfect and the shower was amazing. Very impressed with the fully equipped kitchen, they even had glad wrap, wax paper and aluminum foil. Excellent communication from the time of booking, to checkout. Friendly helpful and accommodating staff. A must while here, eat at the Thai restaurant on site, absolutely delicious. Absolutely recommend.
