It is a unique heritage site. Staying here is a privilege, offering an insight into an ancient world. the owners have so sympathetically restored the property while offering modern luxuries - a stunning combination. We also appreciated the vignettes and decorative pieces collected on their many travels to the East. It is a truly inspiring stay and we would recommend it highly. Madam Elisabeth is gracious and provided a wonderful welcome with chilled wine and local cheese - much appreciated after many hours driving. The house is in the centre of Cluny, steps from the many good restaurants and the Main Street.

How can you beat staying at this one-of-a-kind place. We and our friends stayed here on our cycling trip around Burgundy and wished we could have stayed longer. Built in 1136 and beautifully restored, it truly is a unique stay. The host, Elisabeth, was so accommodating and helpful, nothing was a bother. The included breakfast really got us ready for the days cycling. If you have the chance to travel to the beautiful and interesting Cluny, this should be on the top of your list for stays.

Elizabeth and her husband were the perfect hosts! They shared their historic home with such grace, and took such care to make sure we had everything and felt at ease. Elizabeth checked in with us every day, and brought us breakfast pastries every morning as if we were family! There were plenty of music CDs, an incredible library of books, fantastic pieces of art from all over the world that you could tell were part of their personal collection and curated with an eye toward pleasing children and adults alike. The church bells, the dawn chorus of birdsong right there in the middle of the town every morning, the lovely church, the amazing ancient architecture everywhere….what an incredible place!

It really was over-the-top perfect!

The hosts were exceptional, very helpful and friendly. We were welcomed with a chilled carafe of wine, which after a long journey was just what we needed. The breakfast and pastries were wonderful. We spent two nights at Maison Romane and the facilities were comfortable and very clean. If we are lucky enough to visit Cluny in the future we will most definitely stay at Maison Romane again.

The property is sensational, staying in this historic building in such a central location was a great experience made even better by the fabulous hosts who can not do enough for you, so friendly and helpful throughout the stay. I could not recommend this place more for anyone, solo travellers, couples, families or groups.

We had an amazing stay in this awe inspiring building. Welcome was warm, room was amazing and very comfortable. History of the building was mind blowing. I kept waking up at night being amazed at where I was. Great location, with a great view on the little square and super pretty streets around.

The size, character and decor, all kinds of fascinating ornaments.Great central location in Cluny but very peaceful. A very generous host. We felt very at home.

The place was absolutely breathtaking. If you like art or history at least a little, you will be blown away by the immense beauty and incredible attention to detail in this wonderfully renovated piece of art. We found the house fairly easily and Elisabeth and her husband helped us to park our big SUV (Dodge Durango) in front of the house. Both are very nice and friendly as is their neighbour 🙂 Elisabeth even called us on the day of our departure to ask us if we planned something for dinner as all the shops closed at 18h. This was a very thoughtful gesture. Even tough we brought food with us, she still brought us a little apperitif which was so sweet of her. The breakfast was also very good. When we entered the big appartement we were truly amazed by how much more beautiful it was in reality than the pictures suggested. The kitchen was greatly equipped and the bathroom was very clean. Everything seemed very clean and neat. There were a lot of organic (bio) options to chose from (oils, teas, condiments, shampoo, soap, etc.), which was a great bonus. Cluny itself is very cute and full of history. The current situation did not permit a lot of sightseeing and cultural immersion, but the little we saw was truly charming. If someone wants to stay in the region, this jewel is the place to go. Especially if you want to travel with your pets, as we travelled with our two dogs and our new kitten that we picked up a day before. Elisabeth and her husband were very understanding and had absolutely no problem with our furry family members, to the contrary in fact 🙂

Arriving after a long drive from Senlis, we were so grateful to be greeted by our host with a tray of wine, cheese, olives - she had set out coffee, tea, the fridge had fruit, yogurts, and other goodies. The room was absolutely stunning and it was thrilling to stay in a place so steeped in history.

-I have expected free Wifi at that price range. However, for 50% of the time spent in the room I had connection issues, which was insufficient for working.
