The Ro Hotel Windermere

Lovely hotel and decor throughout, stunning location. We had spacious room 117 with a balcony giving breath taking views, all in-room facilities were fabulous too. Everywhere was clean, our huge bed was super comfy, spotless bedding, had a great sleep. All the staff were helpful, friendly and professional - special mention to Lynn (receptionist extraordinaire). We really enjoyed our stay and can't wait to return.

The food - such a shame as all the other elements of our stay were excellent/perfect. Evening meal - over priced, poor quality ingredients, presentation had no wow factor. I understand offering limited menu choices given many guests might prefer to eat elsewhere but what is offered should be of a far superior quality than it was which would tempt more guests to eat in. Overall, very disappointing. Breakfast - good variety of choices however the cooked items weren't hot, poor quality ingredients and the presentation was average. Unfortunately our food experiences fell extremely short from our expectations. Really looking forward to returning but, sadly, will probably eat elsewhere.

English breakfast. Unless you go down at 7.00am everthing is over cooked. At the prices you charge full "english" should be cooked when ordered. People will not mind waiting for a fresh cooked breakfast. James Kedian

The staff, the food, the location - they were all lovely! We had a lovely week in Bowness, lots of fresh air and beautiful surroundings. Everything was within walking distance and everyone we met was friendly. Lots of places to eat nearby - but make sure you book a table or you will be hunting for somewhere to eat!

the room, sold as a 'lake view' room, was very small considering the price. We arrived at 3pm but the room wasn’t ready, so we sat in the bar to wait. We weren’t notified that the room was ready and had to check ourselves which isn’t huge but we’d come a long way so we were eager to get to our room. i must say i was very disappointed with the bathroom size, which was nothing more than glorified WC. with a shower. also, the price of the food was extortionate and prevented us from eating in more than the once.

Great location. Food quality very good. Bar staff very friendly and efficient.

Service generally just really disappointing (especially reception). Customer felt like an inconvenience at times. Long wait for room. Car park availability hit and miss. No air conditioning…….at almost £400 a night…… Long waits for food in the evening (breakfast buffet very good) Lack of basic staffing organisation. Guest communication pretty non existent. COVID protocol pretty non existent. Not in any way short staffed……just badly trained and directed. Seems to have been a few communication challenges between booking.com and hotel reception about booking board details and pre payments.

Room was clean, and adequate for our purpose. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice and done as a help yourself hot and cold buffet. Staff were very pleasant and very helpful when needed. Parking was very easy with plenty of spaces and we managed to get parked just below our room at the front of the hotel every day, but this was very early in the season and very quiet. A good sized lift to the second floor was a benefit for our access to the room.

Evening meals were very expensive, so we only had them on 2 occasions, choosing to eat elsewhere instead. Being disabled I found that walking from the hotel was quite difficult due to the very steep slope up to the hotel location. Looked great on google maps but I neglected to use the google walk/street option, perhaps I wouldn't have booked if I had done my research better. That was my fault, the hotel was still very good. Using the car to travel to close by restaurants etc wasn't really practical with parking, so the difficult walk became the best option.

The location. The room was allotted to us as upgrade after paying to lake view. But it was really not full lake view but just from a corner of room. So paying 20 pounds for upgrade was a waste

While checking out, my partner was going downstairs to put the stuff in the car. But she was stuck up in the lift. After I did not found her downstairs near the car, I went upstairs again to find her. But she was nowhere. Then I looked at the lift and heard some voice coming from inside the lift and to my horror. it was my partner shouting for help. I immediately contacted the reception but no one could do anything and even they did not had the lift release key. My partner is heart patient and I was getting panicked as the time passed. Emergency services were called who arrived in 5-6 minutes and they attempted to open the lift and bring it down which took them to bring it down. It was just very unpleasant experience.

We were given a bottle of prosecco to have in the bar at 16.30 when our room wasn't ready. The views from the balcony were spectacular, we had a panoramic view and could see right down the lake.

Room wasn't ready until 16.46pm, other guests luggage and housekeeping paperwork still in room. No bathrobes or slippers and the toiletries had run out.

A small but comfortable room. Good buffet breakfasts with plenty of choice. Excellent location close to the centre of Bowness. Very pleasant and hardworking staff. Very good evening meals.

The hotel clearly has difficulty in recruiting staff. On our first night two members of staff had to man the front desk, run the bar and wait in the restaurant. We waited 40 minutes for our first course and decided to eat elsewhere on subsequent evenings (there are some excellent restaurants in Bowness). This was a shame because the staff are working very hard, they are good at what they do and they are very pleasant - the hotel is simply understaffed.

Great location - a peaceful and quiet envronment, and yet within quick walking access to the town. Clean rooms, good food and courteous service.

We were on the third floor and the lift (elevator) was temporarily out of order. Hope that gets fixed soon. It was a small glitch in an otherwise excellent experience.
