Extremely comfortable bed/room. Very clean. Tea/coffee and water in the room. Excellent walk in shower. Friendly staff. Great location. Tasty food from the bar. Excellent breakfast included in price.

Although my bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in, the location directly overlooks a busy road. I left the window open for ventilation and the noise from the traffic had me up at 5am and continued. Best advice, don't be put off by this, just take ear plugs and you'll get a great sleep. Parking - not onsite. It is a simple 5 minutes walk away. Car park £3.50 per day. You can easily park up outside of the hotel, drop your bags in and then drive to the car park

The room (no. 8) was lovely. Hardwood floor, deep bath, the most comfortable bed. The food, both in the evening and at breakfast was lovely. The chap we dealt with had a very cheerful and friendly manner. Very informative and nothing was too much trouble. The kitchen closed at 9pm but that wasn't an issue for us. There is a nice courtyard at the back of the hotel. A really nice setting and a very characterful building.

The lack of parking was not ideal, however, the public carpark was very close and cheap. Because we arrived after 5pm it was free until 8am the next morning. We purchased a ticket upon arrival which covered us from 8am til midday for only £2. Absolute bargain.

The room was good, quirky and very clean, and well supplied with teas, and a coffee machine. The bed was big and very comfortable. There was great views of the town from every window. The breakfast was excellent!

We couldn't get in until 4pm. The wardrobe door could only be opened from one angle and a small distance, as it hit the bed. The coffee items had been put on a old writing desk which meant it was very difficult to get to the drawers underneath. As I was staying only one night I lived out of my suitcase. The shower has a very slippery base it would have been handy to have a shower mat. No car park.

Quirky but very comfortable. Not a straight line in sight in this Old and classy Inn. Probably the most comfortable bed we have slept on when away. All the staff engaged in conversation with you almost as a friend rather than just another customer. Good food and a decent range of ales. Super breakfast options. Outside area for eating with Sunday live music a bonus in the sunshine. Car parking a short walk away and the parking app was easy to deal with using the hotels WiFi so no getting out early the next morning to pay for the car!!

We have just returned home after a 3 night stay at The Cross Keys Hotel, Saffron Walden. We have eaten here quite a few times over the years but had not stayed before. Checking in was straightforward and quick. Any staff members we spoke to were very friendly and pleasant. One young man in particular, unfortunately we didn’t ask his name, went out of his way to chat to our young grandson and was most generous towards him re their shared interest. We found our room very welcoming and spotlessly clean. The double bed was comfortable and the shower was excellent. There was an assortment of bathroom toiletries on hand, along with a kettle and coffee maker, with a variety of tea bags and coffee pods. Breakfast was very tasty with a choice of continental and/or cooked breakfast with tea/coffee. We would definitely recommend this hotel and we hope to return towards the end of the summer.

Everything was fabulous - the location, the beautiful old building, the friendly staff, lovely room & very comfy bed. We were there for their Monday night rib special, which was superb and so nice to find decent food on a Monday. Wonderful breakfast too (included in the price) which was such a bargain for two nights in the middle of such a beautiful town and I wasn't expecting anything half as good! Will definately stay again if back in the area.

Nothing - Everything was superb.

Laid back venue with nice staff. Warm and cozy environment. Love the history of the building. Ceilings are low and floorboards creak, but all adds to the charm of the building. Food was good, although closed early on Sunday night, but no problem there. Car park is a couple of minutes away and reasonably priced.

The rooms were presentable and comfortable, couple of very minor decor issues, but nothing that took away the enjoyment of the stay, examples being mirror no longer on the wall so holes, few paint splatters on bathroom floor. The bed was clean and tidy, although the mattress too soft, but that's a personal preference

Breakfast was comprehensive. The venue historical and interesting. Decor in the area good and creative. Bedroom high standard, modern and tasteful. Extras vg.

The evening meal. Fish and chips, they were very greasy, and overcooked. Chips very greasy and hard. As we’re old the stairs were difficult. ( thought it might be as an old establishment. On booking ad. It says car parking. Yes. It was not on site it was a public parking area.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful historic building. The location was perfect and all the staff we encountered were excellent. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was great. Don't expect air-conditioning and airtight rooms. Go and stay in Premier Inn if that is what you like. We loved our slightly sloping floor, exposed beams and lead light windows! The breakfast was also fabulous.

Nothing, everything was lovely

Breakfast was in the dining room with spaced out tables and plenty of cushions on the chairs. Good menu choice and quick and friendly service. The hotel is in an excellent position in the centre of the town, close to the Saturday market. An iron and ironing board was provided for my husband’s shirt which was very helpful.

Our room wasn’t made up during our two day stay as I had thought this would be done automatically and hadn’t hung the « please make up the room » notice on the door handle. The staff are careful not to enter the rooms unless specifically requested so I will know for next time!
