We stayed 4 nights in a riverside suite. Lots of space laid out as a living room, bedroom and large well equipped bathroom. All clean and modern. Private terrace looking out over river and towards Ludlow. Excellent location for walking into Ludlow which has a collection of great restaurants and other food options like delis and the daily market. Hotel has its own dining - very good, must book. Breakfast simple but good. We had a great time and were sad when it was time to leave.
One slight issue is the room is directly under the bar. You don’t get any noise but you do hear footfall above you. Stops when the place closes.

Booked a Classic double, turned out to be 'ariel' , very hot as corridor outside room houses enormous hot water tank and only window looks directly onto road and traffic light. Bad first night but moved to a Riverside suite for 2nd night, wonderful with views of otters and kingfishers, large bed and good shower. Restaurant food excellent, excellent location, dining room looks out over the river with aforementioned otters etc.. Good location for town and walks direct from hotel.
Ariel classic double poor value for money, hot, small bed, traffic noise. A larger bed could easily fit in the room. Breakfast sausages need to be browned! Fruit not a breakfast option.

fantastic suite, modern, clean with a great balcony with hot tub. The hotel is located right next to the River Teme with great views of the river and Ludlow which is just 10 minutes walk away. Very attentive and friendly staff who give good tips about what to see in lovely Ludlow.
parking space is limited in their car park but The Charlton Arms is one of only a very small number of Ludlow hotels with private car parking. So it’s a bonus that there is a car park. We did however always manage to park in the car park. Ludlow is an old market town which wasn’t built with hotel car parks in mind.

Perfect location - we had a river view room with private terrace which would have been perfect in good weather!! Lovely staff - everyone so helpful. Delicious food in the restaurant- a superb menu of familiar dishes and some a bit more ‘cheffy’ everything just lovely. Breakfast cooked to order so again superb fresh food. Nothing lingering under heat lights here!! We will certainly return - it’s a little gem !
Service at breakfast a little slow. It was a weekend and they were busy, but the waitress concentrated on taking tea and coffee orders from everyone when they came in rather than balancing this with people who were waiting to place orders for cooked food . I’m sure they were just a bit short of staff.

Perfectly located, situated on the river in a picturesque spot and just a short walk into the town. Very clean and comfortable large room. Coffee machine was a nice touch and appreciated the complimentary biscuits and water. Excellent selection at the bar. The restaurant is lovely, small and not at all pretentious with excellent views over the river. The food was excellent and the service was very good, attentive but not overly so. Breakfast was very very good, excellent quality ingredients used and very well presented. The staff were excellent, very helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend a stay at The Charlton Arms .. we will definitely be returning.

The location & the bonus of a room with a terrace providing outside space (With seating & table) for relaxing beside the river. Nice touch to offer the loan of binoculars for bird watching. Good breakfast & tasty choice on dinner menu. Great initiative to have a walking route printed on the back of the breakfast menu but the option of taking away a printed copy would improve the idea...... Maybe with some alternative routes added?
A 4pm check in is too late. Whilst the walk into Ludlow Town centre is fine for the 'Active', some less agile visitors might find the route via the bridge a little dangerous & the hill towards the attractions a little challenging if attempted several times daily. I wouldn't let that put people off booking this lovely hotel however. The bridge & hill have been there a lot longer than the hotel!

Not a huge dinner menu, but all meals and accompanying service were excellent. A good number of offerings for breakfast, again all very good, especially the smoked salmon and poached eggs. All the staff were helpful and friendly and the Balthasar room on the top floor was air conditioned, which is so welcome.
The Balthasar room is on the top floor and has a sloping roofline and a wooden beam across the room. While this is an original feature and adds to the character of this long-standing hotel, I did get fed up with banging my head on it. I'll pick another room next time. 😉

The room was very clean and comfortable and the hotel location is beautiful with a terrace and restaurant overlooking the river; very close to the town centre. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious.
The bathroom was in need of some updating (the toilet flush didn't work properly). Not much storage in the room and the window overlooked the traffic lights on the road into town (although still peaceful at night). We would definitely like to come back, but would book a bigger room in hindsight (with hopefully better plumbing, storage and view).

I've stayed in countless hotels for work over the past few years but this serves as one of the best, if not the best. It is very difficult to find something not to like. Huge bonus was the evening meal - we had the Haddock, chips and peas. Batter exceptionally good, tartare sauce homemade and very creamy, chips perfect. The attention at meal time was polite, genuinely pleasant and interested, and the balance between privacy and attention just right. Huge thanks to all the staff.
Only one small detail, the complementary tea/coffee had not been filled up so was short a tea bag and a couple of milks. But if that's the worst we could find then there's nothing much wrong! And one small oversight did not detract from the cleanliness and tidyness of the room.

The hotel is in a beautiful riverside location and just a short walk into the town centre. The style and decor is characterful and reflects the age and location of the building. Our room was of a good size and thoughtfully equipped with everything you could need including an excellent coffee machine and, in the unusually hot weather, a very efficient and quiet air conditioner. It was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with a great choice of cooked food.
Nothing.
