Kanchanaburi City Hotel - SHA Extra Plus

Breakfast was average. It was served, in this new hotel, in a very old fashioned way. Although, tea, coffee, orange juice and water were served buffet style, fruit, muesli (which was served in a small bowl with several lovely flowers) and cooked dishes were ordered at table and served by them through a hatch from the kitchen. There was a limited selection. The bed was very big and good and made well. The maids did a great job. The free bikes were good and needed to get into town. The pool was quite good. It cooled down dramatically when the weather changed and the air temperature dropped. This is probably because it didn’t see the sun until mid afternoon and we were there at the Winter Solstice.

The location, though right at the Bridge over the Kwai and surrounding market, was 5 long kilometres away from the town centre. If you didn’t want to cycle, there was a fun, old fashioned motorcycle with a frame open sidecar: a sort of local Tuk tuk which took you into town for 100Bts - $3. But best to arrange a return or take your driver’s phone number if you have a Thai SIM card, as we couldn’t find any waiting for the return journey.

Kanchanaburi CIty Hotel is a not a resort type of hotel but a hotel with a great sense of community feel, like a YMCA hotel. The decoration of our room (Japanese-style Triple room) was simple but sufficient and comfy. The facility was very clean. Staffs were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is just less than 5 minutes walk from the famous River Khwae Bridge, and about 5-10 minutes car ride to multiple local museums. It has a bulletin board in their common room (behind the lobby) posted with lots of information and directions on how to get to nearby tourist spots by different means of transportation. The hotel could also lend (not rent) their guests bicycles to ride around town. Our stay at the hotel also included breakfast which served both western style (cereal, toasts, french toasts, Museli, scrambled eggs, pan-fried) and Asian style (congee with mushroom and chicken, fried rice) dishes. It was not buffet style but still an all-you-can-eat as guests were allowed to order multiple dishes from their menu so our stomachs were also fulled before we started the day. The food served at the hotel's restaurant were sourced from local farms and were always beautifully decorated with edible flowers and delicious! This is a hotel which support locals and promotes self sustainability and I'd definitely recommend this place to our friends.

I've stayed at this hotel many times before and over the years the stay has always been an excellent one. From the helpful friendly staff to the spotlessly clean rooms, bathrooms and very comfortable beds. The breakfast is very good and you can have more if you want it at no extra cost. Swimming pool is lovely and clean. Location near to the Bridge over the River Kwai excellent. I would recommend this hotel every time.

If there are three small things that are not always first class it is the the TV system which does not cater for English speakers despite changes, the internet can sometimes be intermittent and the showers with hot water can be a little difficult to set.

A very adequate place to stay just a 3 minute walk from the bridge train station (the one AFTER the main stop if coming from Bangkok). Good places to eat and get massage nearby and free bikes to use. The pool is fine and long enough to swim laps if that’s your thing. Staff pleasant. I had to book the family room as only one available and it was large and clean and had a microwave, fridge and collection of plates a do utensils. There’s nothing remarkable about the property but it is a solid choice if you want to stay near the famous bridge or have to catch one of the first trains going either direction.

They offer a great scooter service and they are situated in a great location close to a train station. The breakfast options were pretty good as well. Clean and comfortable rooms. Well priced laundry service.

There was a strange smoke-like smell sometimes getting into the room. Not sure if this was via the air conditioning or what but that bothered us a bit. Also sometimes when you try to communicate with the staff in English they will say yes to everything but in actuality they did not understand what you said. It is better to be honest and say we don't understand instead of making it feel like they did.

Staff was really friendly and welcoming. Hotel were very close to the train station Saphan Kwae Yai (about 3 minute walk). 7eleven was barely a minute walk from the hotel, and taxis are easy to find in the area. Rooms very clean and had everythingwe expected. I can recommend the stay :)

The breakfast was decent, but not as good as I expected. You get vouchers to use in the hotel café. You can choose two dishes per voucher. The menu has around 12 dishes. The breakfast also includes coffee, milk, cereal and orange juice. It gets the job done!

Simple ABF breakfast from 7-10am, ala carte buffet. Firm pillows upon request. Small but clean pool on 2nd floor. Close proximity to River Kwai train station, 7 Eleven ( open 24 hours ), Amazon Cafe & ATMS. Microwave, Fridge, basic plates and cutleries available. Excellent Location-come down at the River Kwai Train Station instead of Kanchanaburi Station ( 200 meter walk to Hotel )

No shaver, no bar of soap, mini bottles of shower gel and shampoo. Suggest to bring your own. A bit dated however clean and staff very friendly & accommodative.

The property has a great location within short walking distance of the Kwai Bridge, the market and the Jeath War Museum. Staff were polite, courteous and very friendly. Had a lovely breakfast in the hotel.

Nothing was bad. The room we were given had a badly fitting window and we could smell cigarette smoke coming from the swimming pool area. More the fault of the rude people who smoke than the hotel.

Superb location close to the River Kwai bridge and pleasant helpful staff. Included breakfast was very good in the restaurant, though we asked for a boxed one on two early starts and though tasty these were lacking in quantity and variety. Room facilities were good and clean.

Pool was closed for some days of our stay and when it was open the water looked a little murky so we didn't fancy using it. Would have been nice to cool off in a pool as I was expecting to, having chosen a hotel with this facility above others.

Location next to the Bridge..... Staff were pleasant and hotel exceptionally clean It is very quiet in the evenings but if you like that it is close enough and cheap enough to hire a tuk tuk for a few hours to go into Kanchanaburi to see all the sights with assistance of driver.

These are not complaints but suggestions.....whilst we were supplied with drinking water, we would have appreciated being able to make tea and coffee. There was no kettle or cups and saucers.
