Shalimar Hotel

The room was large and comfy beds. The patio to go to the bedroom was really nice little green square. The breakfast was very good portion and various dishes. Thank you Sindujan for making us feel comfortable, serving our breakfasts and helping out for the taxi. Sindujan makes this place lively.

We selected this place because there was an option for shuttle to airport, however on arrival we were told they don’t offer this service. Highly disappointing. In the end Sindujan sorted a taxi for us which was very much appreciated. The check in was very long, this is the only place we had to pay for room upfront. Wish they only took one passport number and gave us the key, as we were tired from our drive from Ella. The room didn’t have any view to the outside as it was blurry glass on all windows. There was a kettle, however no tea bags were provided, too bad :( The restaurant could have feel more lively with a few paintings / decoration on the wall and the day light.

Staff were friendly and there was a 24hour reception! The check-in process was smooth. The manager Sindujan was exceptional at making us feel welcomed and cared for - he was more than willing to share recommendations and was also communicative over whatsapp. The hotel was clean, although dated/ rustic. The room we got was really spacious and it was pretty quiet (it faced the inner courtyard) considering that the hotel was along a busy main street and near the railway station. It was really good value for money!

Wifi speed was average but served us well enough (it was probably linked to our location within the hotel compound). The restaurant at the hotel was quite pricey for Colombo standards but it also has a wide range of food from local fare to continental/ international.

Central location (easy to get a tuktuk even at 3am in the night), old style, Very spacious and clean room, Room had 2 parts, one drawing room kind of seating area and a bedroom area. Also a narrow attached balcony. Toilet was clean. Towel and toiletries were provided. The room had a tv, kettle, a sofa, clothes drying shelf, a mini fridge (although it wasn't working).

It wasn't really a problem, but at least 2/3 of their staff is old and not very responsive. Neither their Wifi worked nor my Airtel sim data worked for reasons unknown. Wifi range wasn't reaching my room (room 101). So all my internet work had to wait until I left the hotel to go out.

We had the deluxe room. We had a lot of space! That was great! The bathroom was good and clean, we had very good water pressure and hot water. No animals visit during the night which is awesome for Colombo. The bed was comfortable, we had some holes in the sheet but it didn't bother us. We slept very well. Checkout at midday is awesome and they offered us to keep our bags while we went visiting the city in the afternoon. Front desk manager Sindujan is very kind and helpful.

We weren't offered the WiFi so I'm not sure they have one?

We stayed two nights at the Shalimar Hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was big and comfortable. Only a couple of small details that needed looking at, which was the shower head and the stains on the suitcase stand, apart from that it was a pleasant stay. There was a nice lounge area with plenty of space. It was a convenient location for the Maradana train station, which was one stop past Colombo Fort. We walked most of the time to Colombo it took 30 minutes which was quite pleasant. The owner was very kind in allowing us to leave our suitcase for collection by another hotel. All in all I would recommend this hotel.

The shower head needed a clean.

We really appreciated Mr Sandujan helping us with everything - storing our bags, a quick shower hours after checkout before our night bus ride, showing us local apps etc. We had the room Deluxe with a private bathroom. The room was nice even if a bit run down, especially the bathroom. One thing to note is, that our room had windows into the yard and not the busy street, which was a huge plus.

Great location, uber knows this place. Some small stores and food around. Train station Maradana is close. Wifi works great. Smooth check in & check out. Restaurant on the ground floor could bring the food to your room. Employees, especially Mr Sindujan, are so nice and hospitality. Late check out option been provided without extra payment.

That is pretty old property, may be historical colonial-style hotel but maybe it is a pros actually.

Clean, comfortable and very spacious rooms. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Great location.

Situated on a busy road so depending on your room it can be a little noisy. In saying that the staff were super nice and offered to change our room.

The location is fantastic for Maradana train station which is exactly why we booked it (45 second walk max) and the rooms are spacious and very clean. The staff are very friendly, speak good English and were quick to respond when we confronted someone following us from the train station. The hotel has a restaurant too.

From a value for money price point - nothing.

Staff was very friendly and welcoming! Even though we were only able to check in at 12am they still helped us with a smile and even helped us with train schedules and plans for the next day. They hotel is clean and spacious with aircon and clean linen. Great value for money and I look forward to stay there again! Also short distance from Colombo Fort railway station.
