Hotel Pigal

Clean and comfortable accommodation with very useful dining room to make drinks and snacks. Great market a few minutes away for supplies. The owner, Xavier is just lovely, and I liked the vintage, ‘shabby chic’ decor and decorative items. 😊 Tarragona is a great place to stay, lots to do and see.

This small hotel exceeded my expectations. At the price, I was not expecting luxury but the hotel was comfortable, clean and had better facilities than some of the much more expensive hotels that I've stayed at. There was a residents' lounge downstairs where there was plenty of tables and chairs, cutlery and crockery, a microwave, kettle, toasters and a fridge. The receptionist was extremely helpful and gave us a map and pointed out some locations we could visit. The hotel is about 5 mins walk from the station and just around the corner from the Fira de Congress were we had tickets for the ballet. There is a small Spar supermarket just round the corner where you can buy food and heat it up in the microwave which we did.

The area is a bit seedy but we still felt safe walking about at night.

Everything, location was perfect, staff were wonderful, Mol bé. Would highly recommend it. A lovely quiet place to sleep, in easy walking distance of all the best places to visit.

There was nothing that we didn't like.

This lodging provides a great price to value ratio. I admit to having been a bit concerned given the bargain price but the high rating by previous guests led me to take a chance and book. What we got was really a very comfortable bargain. This is a family owned and operated business with the owners on-sight during business hours and often beyond those times to accommodate late arriving guests. The room was spartan, though I expected that given the low price. The location was excellent, a short walk from the market place where one could get breakfast or bring it back to the hotel. The owner who speaks excellent English was happy to arrange a taxi that would stop off at the Roman aqua-duct on the way to a remote train station where we could catch the fast train back to Barcelona. I would happily stay here again.

I had a bit of trouble with the coffee and bottled water machines, which were coin operated. The coffee and tea service didn't really meet my needs. But market place was a couple of blocks away and there were a number of coffee places within easy walking distance.

Approximately 15 minute walk from the railway station (pulling a 20kg case & backpack each!) with a steady uphill gradient. Easy to find & central to all the main attractions of this once Roman City. We walked everywhere! Our ensuite room (37) was on the 3rd floor, (lift/elevator available), clean, fresh spacious with a balcony overlooking the back of the town, sea in the distance. We loved the quirky 'shabby chic' decor with up cycled stools, headboard & 1960's dresser. The room was quiet and we were treated to different clock bells chiming through the day from the town. A lounge was available for guests with a breakfast area, microwave, teabags & kettle, and a coffee machine (1euro), plus a vending machine for water, snacks, etc. Crockery & cutlery, everything you needed. Plus a fridge to store your breakfast/lunch/bottle of wine! When there was a shower of rain, umbrellas were provided to borrow! Xavier the owner was the best host & his newly recruited nephew (sorry I have forgotten your name!) is equally enthusiastic & a major asset to this family run hotel. Highly recommend Pigal with a calm atmosphere & everything a tourist would need!

The reviews are accurate: no frills budget hotel, clean, good location. Note that the communal long wooden table is a great perk as are rhe forks plates tableware refrigerator. All this for the best price in town! I want to add is that the owner/manager is charming and caring. He wants you to enjoy the hotel and to enjoy Tarragona, and he will go the extra kilometer to get you there. For example, I asked where I could get no frills no sugar no flavor added yogurt, and he shut the desk down long enough to walk me around tge corner and point out the woman w a dairy shop w homemade yogurt. And all with infectious enthusiasm that left me feeling great.

Absolutely loved my stay at Pigal. Xavi was so welcoming and always encouraged me to practice Spanish with him. I really appreciated it :) He (and all the staff) were so friendly and helpful with anything I needed during my stay. The room was a good size, wifi worked well, clean, kept cool, storage for my baggage and sound proofing. It's in a perfect location, easy to walk to the train, bus station, beach, restaurants, market, gym, laundry etc. There is a nice communal space as well. Highly recommend and I look forward to returning when I'm back in Spain. Thank you! :)

What a find!! Amazing value for money and for a 1 star hotel, the offering was exceptional !! I had a lovely twin room with private facilities, which was super clean, and there was plenty of hot water. The owner has thought of ways to save money within the hotel without taking away from the services on offer, and it's clear that he passes on the savings in his room rates. No breakfast is included however the host has set up long tables downstairs, a Lavazza coffee machine at 1 euro per coffee, and there's a fridge where you can leave your food if you want. Owner also provides free tea bags and a kettle downstairs. Staff are wonderful, friendly and helpful. Location is superb - round the corner from the central food market (fantastic!) and supermarket and also the main avenue, the Rambla Nova, and it's 10 minutes walk from the city's railway station (NOT Camp Tarragona - that's the out of town one, where many fast trains go through!). I would definitely stay here again, no question about it and would recommend it to anyone looking for great value for money in a super friendly place right at the heart of the city. I was travelling on my own at the age of 69, and felt really safe and comfortable here. Highly recommended !!

The only negative was that I only had a high stool in my room rather than a normal chair I could use, but this is a very small niggle. Loved this place !!

This hotel was excellently located for us being halfway between the station and the Arena where we were attending an event. On the ground floor there is a big room with tables and chairs, crockery, cutlery, glasses, fridge, microwave, electric kettle, etc. So you can buy food in the supermarket around the corner and heat it up in the microwave. Ideal for anyone on a budget. Although the room didn't have air con, there was a ceiling fan which kept the temperature down.

The neighbourhood seems a bit seedy, we didn't have any problems walking around quite late at night. The double bed is two single beds pushed together. Everything else was great.

It was an ideal location and we were given so much excellent help when we arrived including a map and an arrow on the floor with which to orientate ourselves. We made a great tour of the city in only 24 hours before leaving for the Reus airport by train, an easy walkaway. We loved Tarragona, only wished we could have stayed longer. If we return we will be booking Pigal again. Excellent value for money run by people who know about travelling, travellers and their needs, this reflected in the facilities provided including communal area, with water, snacks, coffee, tea and a fridge and if I remember a microwave.

I suppose the room could have had a more beautiful view from the balcony, but we weren't there to sit and look at the view from our room so not really a problem!
