Hotel Colonial de Santillana

This is our third stay at this hotel and again excellent !!! perfect location for the ferry crossing from Santander. very handy for the bars & restaurants within walking distance also a very big plus is private parking at no extra cost. The staff are very friendly and helpful nothing is to much trouble for this small but amazing hotel, will book again for next September and will look forward to it.

October 20th-22nd,Stayed 2 nights in room 10 which was small but everything spotlessly clean and thankfully very comfortable beds. Bathroom was tiny with good shower but crazy little glass shelf in it!! If you were to slip and grab it then I’d imagine you’d be seeking medical help! Why glass? The hotel is fabulous with such a nice feel about it and the staff were lovely and very welcoming. Great breakfast too. If there is orange cake on offer it’s delicious you have to try it! Had a really nice stay in this beautiful town that’s got restaurants galore within spitting distance of the hotel . Just one thing that was a little miss leading about the photos you see of the hotel is the parking situation. The neat tarmac car park with marked out bays you see are not part of the hotel it’s for the restaurant next door! The actual hotel car park is at the back of the hotel and it’s not tarmac with a pin code bar type barrier and no obvious evidence of cctv that covers it either! Great little family run hotel and I recommend staying there. BTW it closes today 22October and it’s not open again until a week before Easter 2024!

Just slightly irritated when seeing the parking wasn’t as I’d expected in the photos of the hotel!

Friendly welcome and staff. Spacious room and bathroom in colonial style with plafond ventilator. Fantastic location for visiting Santillana del Mar. The hotel has an open-air car park behind the hotel (not to confuse with the car park of the neigbouring hotel where we mistakenly parked first). Great breakfast. Upon arrival the hotel excused itself for the WIFI which was temporarily out of order. However, the repair man just left and the WIFI signal was excellent during our stay!

Nothing to report. We had a very nice stay. Note that the hotel does not have an elevator, the staff offered us to carry our luggage upstairs. Great hospitality.

I stayed in a room at the Colonial with two friends on the nights of July 6th and 7th. Sometimes triple rooms are sort of an afterthought with an extra bed squeezed in, but this room at the Colonial was big, with a large window, three proper beds and a great bathroom. We had a lovely view out over the fields, the town of Santillana and the colegiada. The room was very comfortable and very quaintly decorated, as is the rest of the hotel. Breakfast was just €7 and had a great variety of things to choose from including fresh fruit, granola, yoghurt and juices. And they’ll make you bacon and egg if you want. Jose on the front desk was so friendly and helpful with anything we needed: What a nice guy! One evening after a busy day of tourism we had a drink in the patio of the hotel. it’s quiet, tranquil and away from the bustle of the town centre. Parking is private, free and right next to the hotel. The main village of Santillana is just steps away and really worth visiting. And of course the Cuevas de Altamira museum and replica are about a ten minute drive and worth every penny of the entrance fee. It was also lovely to come back to the peaceful Colonial after a day in Santander, which was just about 30 minutes drive away and very much worth the trip too. I highly recommend the Hotel Colonial if you are planning on visiting that part of beautiful Cantabria.

The only thing I didn’t like was that we only spent two nights there. This was my first time in Cantabria and I would love to come back and explore the area some more. Next time I will definitely stay at the Colonial.

Our room was lovely and clean. Breakfast was very good at additional price. The staff is pleasant. You can walk to medieval town. It is truly lovely when all the buses leave.....magical!!!!!!! This hotel has an outdoor patio with chairs and tables where we would sit and drink wine at night. The room has no air condition......I would NOT stay there in July or Aug!!!!!! We slept with windows open on 2 floor....nice breeze. I would recommend this hotel but NOT in summer!!!!!!

I found the Hotel Colonial de Santillana very clean, comfortable and perfectly sized for two people. The bathroom and shower were excellent. You could tell that they made sure that the room was spotless! It's also in a perfect location, within a short walk (2/3 min) to the town centre and 5 minutes by car to the Altamira Caves. I initially chose this hotel because of the free off-road parking. If you're travelling by car, don't forget to request the barrier code in advance. Furthermore, they clearly explained the area and the attractions nearby. For 50€, I honestly think this is a bargain!

Everything! Easy check in. Good communication, friendly and helpful staff. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was exceptionally clean and spacious. I loved the very substantial breakfast, there are three choices, sweet, salty and healthy. We had the healthy/fitness one. Lots of fresh fruit yoghurt toast, scambled eggs coffee and cereal, There is a big selection too and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Car parking is secure and it is quiet at nigh. It is also very safe and clean regarding Covid regulations. I will definitely return.

Very nice family run hotel. Very nice bar and restaurant. Beautiful food, the best meal we had in our 10 day trip. Short walk into town which was really lovely. The old town was enchanting. Only 30 mins ride from Santander which was really good. Safe parking for motorbikes We will definitely return.

The room was comfortable and had a nice view. The dinner was great and the young waiter who served us very friendly. The location was very convenient and parking much appreciated.

There wasn’t anything I didn’t like. It would have been helpful to have some more information available in the hotel about the history of the town which was so interesting. Nothing available at tourist Centre either.

A lovely family run hotel, friendly and helpful staff. Lovely food and selection of drinks. Spotlessly clean, plenty of storage for our motorcycle luggage in the bedroom, comfortable bed and lovely shower. Secure parking for our motorcycle. Easy stroll to the village.
