Protea Hotel by Marriott Johannesburg Wanderers

I always like the Protea Wanderers, hence I always visit the establishment. I liked the dinner session. Keep the happy hour facility, it makes a person enjoy the meal more with an ice cold pint or two of cider. The meal was great. The service from the waiter great.

I was told by the Receptionist that I will be placed at the seventh floor, and that raised the expectation to being in a suite like room like some time ago; but unfortunately, it was an ordinary room, possibly smaller than the rooms in the lower floors. This was just a deflator. At least the bed was comfortable.

First of all I was pleasantly surprised by the room we were allocated - it was an upgrade in the seventh floor. I had booked for a room with the extra-large bed. But opening the door, it was just, WOW! Same effect when my partner came in. It had a lounge area, and a second toilet. The Dinner was great, and we had an attentive Waiter. Everything about the evening was just lovable. I would not like to be booked again in that room, ❤️❤️❤️❤️

There was nothing out of place this evening, everything was on point and well above our expectation. We LOVED every minute of our stay.

We liked the clean spacious room; Dinner and Breakfast meal were great; Three cheers to the chef that prepared breakfast for us on the day; He prepared delicious omelettes for us; He has a great personality, with such a good persona for a person in this industry, lots of patience, and one can easily relate with. The place is clean.

I take some of the furniture needs some replacing. The rooms are not properly insulated for noice reduction, when a person speaking a little loud on the passage, we could hear the whole conversation, and we wondered how much of sound from our room is heard outside!

Helpful, friendly staff. Very nice, spacious room. Plenty of good toiletries, great bar for happy hour, good meals in restaurant. Great start to the holiday! Good breakfast: fruit, yogurt, juice, hot and cold buffet, pastries, toast, tea or coffee. Staff arranged private minibus tour to Soweto area: Surprise gift of gateau for evening dessert for our belated 50th wedding anniversary holiday! Convenient for site-seeing of historic locations. Lovely garden, pool and environment. Convenient for onward car travel to Kruger.

The cleaning of rooms was a bit hap hazard .. you could walk in after breakfast and people are still changing sheets or it’s incomplete . Also they left ironing boards in the hall way and unclean dishes from room service. Very unsightly. Room service and staff were using the elevators for guests when they have staff elevators and stairs . Hotel staff should mostly be invisible .

I was charged a higher price than the price quoted to me be Booking.com

Fantastic view of the park and parliment from our Bedroom window. The secure parking under the hotel is chargable but worth it as the area around the hotel was not safe at night. They upgrade our room as it was our wedding anniversary. We ate in the hotel one night, the food was good and reasonably priced.

Room and the Hotel are a little tired and could do with a make over. Some of the USB charging sockets and plug sockets in our room did not work. I reported this but nothing was fixed.

The room was spacious and comfortable, the bed large and the breakfast extensive and good. Staff were helpful and friendly.

As a 'paperless' hotel, there was virtually no information available without asking. So I had to ask what time breakfast was, I couldn't find what channels were on the TV without scrolling through everything, and I had to ask what time checkout was. I understand the desire ot cut down on bits of paper, but it would be helpful to have a basiic one page summary of key information. I never found out what facilities the hotel had. For example, there might have been a gym but how would I ever know?!

The room was tidy and neatly organized. The dinner was superb. The seventh floor is like seventh heaven, quite and relaxing.

We could have done with a more spacious room. Probably because the place was full our waiter often forgot about us during dinner, as getting his attention was often a mission, service was sort shared with another colleague waiter. But it was a great dinner.

the hotel is perfect for a stay in Johannesburg since it is located well, it is safe and well protected. Mattress very comfortable and inside there is anything you need, breakfast, garden, pool, dinner lunches etc.. All Staff is super nice and welcoming

some parts of the hotel would need some renovation and no good value for money, especially for transport to the airport, more than 50 usd for less that 30 min drive …
