GINN Hotel Hamburg Elbspeicher

The hotel is located in a cool historical building, previously it was either a port warehouse or a factory. There are metal rivets inside — steam punk :) The surroundings are super! Charm! In the morning — a good breakfast. On the roof there is a restaurant with an excellent view of the port; in the evening you can drink beer and enjoy the view. The room is locked with a code, you don’t need to carry any keys or cards, it’s very convenient. But if you want, you can take a traditional key (I didn’t). The room has a desk where you can work on the computer. The Internet is excellent. There was also a TV, but I didn’t turn it on. The staff is very friendly. If I need to go to Hamburg again, I will choose this hotel.

The menu at the rooftop restaurant is very limited, the waiters are very slow. It's better to have dinner somewhere else. I haven't find any other shortcomings.

Kitchen/breakfast view over harbor, city etc. Hotel staff is exceptionally great and helpful, for example hostess for the breakfast area was extremely welcoming and helpful. Location is great right next to fish mark, boat, bus etc transport. Small fridge in the room. Room and hotel looks very modern and nice.

Hot room without AC. Location means there are is much traffic and partying outside of the hotel. Also loud drunk hotel guests returning to their rooms late without taking due care not to wake other hotel guests.

I really, really liked this hotel. The wonderful receptionist let me check in in the morning, no stress, they loaned me a phone charger, the location was truly brilliant. In one direction a small waterside walk to lovely fish restaurants, boat trips, museums, and the city centre. A walk in the other direction - the cool and gritty famous Reeperbahn area. The shower was powerful. The breakfast was really, really good. so many continental choices, great coffee, and they’ll make you a hot breakfast too. Highly recommend and hope I’ll come again!

The room was very hot. But, they’d already thought of that - there was a fan in the room that was just what was needed!

i received more than 20 emails Directly from hotel and through booking.com about rating the hotel even before I checked out. Also several in German and still receiving. This makes me hesitate to book again as it is annoying (spam). even thought of rating by a 1. The email with the final invoice to quickly check out was perfect. just leave it to that and 1 invitation to rate via booking.com

The hotel's main attraction is its location; when you book a harbor view room, you are literally over the river, there's not even a quay between the building and the water. You can come across an Ultra Large Container Vessel category cargo ship visiting your room in a Saturday afternoon. You can also encounter military and other vessels from around the world. It's also worth to mention that the building itself is an old warehouse with all its ups and downs. The old structure is visible which gives a unique vibe to the hotel. The rooms are on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor, and although we requested to get one on the 4th floor, I don't think it matters with this view. The restaurant is on the top (8th) floor with terrace that makes the very average breakfast memorable. Some of the staff members there are super kind. The fish market with a bunch of great seafood restaurants is nearby, Sankt Pauli is just a corner away, a Soviet submarine (now museum) is next to the hotel, public transport boats have their stop is 2 minutes away etc. You won't find any better location in town.

An old building has its downsides as well: there is no sufficient air ventilation in the rooms and there's no built in AC (at least not that I could identify); during summer it can be a real problem. Making modifications in such a structure may be very cumbersome. Apart from the lack of sufficient ventilation, the major issue is that the bathroom light works with motion detector and the bathroom's wall is semi-transparent, meaning you will wake up your partner and you won't be able to fall asleep either, as the light turns off after approx. 5 minutes (maybe 3 but it feels 5). As said above, some of the crew are super kind, others are less.

Beautiful location on the water and lovely rooms in a great building that still retains some heritage character in the rooms. Well worth paying a little extra for a room facing the harbour. Loved watching the ship traffic. Bar on top floor is also great and staff was very helpful.

Visiting during a heatwave was a challenge in a south facing room with limited ventilation. Sleep was difficult, but lucky the view at night was worth it. As tricky as it is in a heritage building, some sort of additional cooling may be necessary for those days.

Location i top. Hotel is very nice decorated the rooms are large and also very nice. be sure to have breakfast at the hotel overlooking the port-breakfast was delicious, large selection and very nice staff.

Toilet!!! Omg in 2022 to have the same toilet in the hotel as the airplane-terrible. Such i nice hotel and this is a big mistake that you have toilets like this and so noisy - the paradox is that the toilets in the plane are less noisy.

Great spot on the Harbour watching the shipping traffic from our window. We enjoyed the complimentary drink our first evening on the top floor bar. The coffee and the tea in the room were enjoyed.

The staff were quite rude around the parking as you need to phone to open the gate and we didn't have access to a phone without costly international fees.

Nice hotel with comfortable rooms. Rooms with a view of the river are good too. The restaurant/bar at the top of the building are also a nice touvh with a great view of the river/city. Breakfast was good.

My only criticism was that it was exceptionally hot in the room and you are barely able to open the window to get fresh air.

The ferry stop is in front of the hotel. Every time I went to town and returned to my hotel, I took the ferry to Landungsbrücken. It was a special experience.

The staff were unfriendly.
