Residence Inn by Marriott San Jose Escazu

What an amazing place. If I'm ever staying in Escazu again, I'll definitely choose this hotel. The staff were superb, very friendly, ready to help and very accommodating. I asked for a room on a higher floor and they instantly arranged that for me. The breakfast was really good, with amazing service again - and a good choice of food and drinks. They also have a fantastic terrace outside, so you can choose whether to have your breakfast indoors or outdoors. The room was spacious and quiet, with a self-contained kitchen and a comfortable bed. They also have an outdoor pool and a nicely set up gym. The gym is not too big but has great equipment and if you go there during a quiet time, you can have the whole place to yourself. Also, a free welcome drink of my choice was a very nice touch. Another thing I loved was the location - right in the heart of Escazu, surrounded by excellent coffee shops and fashion boutiques only a short walk away.

I wish they had spa facilities on the premises rather than in a galaxy far far away. 😁 To get to the spa, you had to leave the building, walk well outside the area, cross the highway over a ridiculously long footbridge with no lifts, then look for it somewhere there on the other side. I must admit, I gave up. But if you don't intend to use spa services, it's not going to be a problem. They can send a masseuse into your room instead, but she needs to be paid in cash. Lastly, I wished the room colours were brighter (they were the 1980s-style dark brown palette) but that is a personal preference, someone else may actually like it that way.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating . We booked 3 rooms for our family of 8. And we were just doing a quick stay, 12 hours because we were leaving early for our flight home out of SJO. Because we were leaving so early in the morning (5am) we were going to miss the free breakfast that was included with our stay. They packed 8 to go breakfast/lunches for us to pick up at the counter on our way to our shuttle. We were very pleased.

I wish we would have known ahead of time that laundry facilities were available at no charge, some of us had our laundry done at a hotel we stayed at immediately prior to staying here.

All was great except the room I booked was not available upon arrival. Because I booked on Booking.com our reservation was bumped for a Marriot booking. We reserved a two bedroom suite and ended up with two separate rooms. We had no advanced noticed and felt stuck. Stayed anyway. Was a good experience but reservations should be honored based on when booked, not if it was a Marriot website booking.

This is clearly one of the best hotels that I've stayed at. It is modern, clean, close to shops (although many closed due to COVID) and the restaurant is great. The value of the food is good only because of the Costa Rican currency, but the food was good.

You get what you pay for, but I feel that the cost could have been slightly lower. The lighting in the room could be more, other than that, my concerns weren't related to the hotel itself. Many of the nearby restaurants were closed, causing me to drive. Not a big deal, but the proximity to the shops is one of the primary reasons why I chose the location. The restaurants with more decent prices were gone, and the higher priced ones (often non-local) were available. If I'm in Costa Rica, I prefer to eat local food, so I didn't have any interest eating at the Italian restaurants, for example.

The location was top! The room was perfect with a small kitchen area and sofa with a comfortable bed. The staff were all very helpful and friendly.

The sound of the air conditioner was very loud

breakfast was good, the bacon was good, its hard to find good bacon at a hotel.

taxi driver was a very slow driver, not good when your trying to get to the airport. very nice polite man though! just a slow driver, it probably took 20 minutes longer than usual in which i didn’t plan for, fortunately, we did not miss out flight.

Breakfast is mediocre, nothing is delicious, totally average for that kind of hotel, location in price in San Jose, breakfast is comparable to a middle class best western breakfast. It’s sister hotel AC has a better service and delicious breakfast.

The staff, when I checked in were so very accommodating... everyone was so very friendly and supper dupe sweet! This is my new favorite spot to stay at when I go to Escazu.

Breakfast is awesome as usual..The Gallo Pinto is a must. Gives a real Authentic Costa Rican feel.

The location is prime you can wlak to shops, bars and restaurants. My got o place whenever in the city in Costa Rica
