Palms City Resort

The hotel was very comfortable and has beautifully appointed rooms, with lovely grounds. The location was wonderful, with most major attractions within easy walking distance. We enjoyed how relaxing and calm the whole hotel felt- definitely was a fantastic place to stay!

Smoking was permitted in some outdoor areas, including balconies. Our neighbours seemed to be constantly outside smoking weed and cigarettes, which meant we were unable to use our balcony for a few days, due to astha-related health issues. People smoking on their villas around the pool area also meant that the pool was often uncomfortable to be in. Seems a shame in this day and age that smoking is permitted at all in hotel grounds.

The Palms is beautiful. Its located on the Esplanade directly opposite the water. Its absolutely quiet and not in the noise and mayhem of Mitchell Street. The rooms are surrounded by palm trees and it feels like you're in a tropical paradise. I stayed in a garden bungalow and it was clean, comfortable and had kichenette facilities. Despite being right next to the pool it was never noisy. The air-conditioning and overhead fan were quiet. Definitely book here again. While it might be more expensive than some of the places on Mitchell St etc youre you're missing out on the noise that will keep you up all night! And I'd also prefer this place over the more sterile chain hotels. There's a 24/7 reception and staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel provides a buffet breakfast only. I'd have liked the option to have lunch or dinner occasionally. There is also a poolside bar which is nice but it doesn't stay open long and you can't order food.

We loved the location, on-site parking, pool and laundry facilities, 24/7 reception and buffet breakfast! Also the fact the hotel is locked up every night which makes it feel secure, especially being on the esplanade. Everything was convenient and overall the hotel was fairly quiet and nice to sit outside and relax.

The bathrooms aren’t cleaned daily- whilst the beds are remade and dirty towels taken away, the actual amenities weren’t cleaned daily. Not a deal breaker, but would be nice to step into a fresh shower everyday or even every 2nd day. Was disappointed to see the pool bar closed, we went beginning of October and was told it was already closed for wet season- will have to come back another time mid-year to take advantage of that!

Lush gardens surrounding the property which provided welcome relief in the heat. Each bungalow had a shady deck area to sit out on and enjoy the enjoy the surroundings with some nibbles and a glass of wine whilst watching the world go by on the Esplanade.. Pool area a great place to socialise with other guests with plenty of loungers, seating and floaty noodles.Lots of shade and pool very easy to get into for older folks who need a rail and shallow steps to get in and out. Lovely indoor and outdoor buffet breakfast area which was kept spotless and topped up by unobtrusive staff. Good range of hot and cold foods available to suit everyone and very reasonably priced at $18.50 per head. All staff very helpful and friendly. Mitchell Street and cafe/restaurants strip literally 5 minutes walk around the corner so super convenient. Room was clean, cool and private with aircon and ceiling fan which was very welcome in the heat. We loved every minute of our 5 night stay!

Location is excellent, right in Darwin city on the esplanade. So easy to walk to the Mall, Mitchell Street, the Esplanade or the Waterfront from there. The hotel has been renovated with new reception and breakfast area and new outside painting of the buildings. We stayed in a bungalow with private outdoor spa and the gardens had been updated along with the bungalow. Brand new bathroom and handy little kitchenette including a small fridge, single electric hotplate, microwave, sink and coffee pod machine. Air con worked well. Unfortunately the room isn't large enough for a king size bed which we prefer (they have queens). I think the rest of the different room types have also been updated/refurbished. The outside covered verandah is great though could do with a ceiling fan. The spa is a very good size.

Onsite parking isn't that ample, but I guess that's one draw back from being right in the city. There is a lot of parking on the esplanade though if the onsite parking fills up. Some of the gardens needed a prune, ie near the entrance boom gate with overgrown branches making it hard to access the boom gate for parking inside the property.

Beautiful tropical-feel resort with great amenities and staff. The location of the resort was perfect, close to everything necessary. I used the electric scooters to get around if I wanted to go somewhere a bit further. The Tropical Villa was comfortable and gave a good level of privacy. I did enjoy having breakfast and dinner on the porch. Fantastic stay!

The only minus I can think of is that there is no room service which I do enjoy on my travels, but there are many great restaurants nearby for delivery and takeaway!

The location is great, walking distance to shops & waterfront.The staff go above and beyond to help with our needs, very friendly, professional & easy to talk to. I'd say the staff exceed our expectations with a special mention to Hannah, Roisin, Hamid, Raja (reception) Tony (maintenance) & assistant manager Holly whom we dealt with all directly & looked after us like family. The housekeeping & kitchen staff all very friendly and helpful, only too willing to meet our requirements as well. The pool area is also a great feature of the property & a nice size for cooling off and a recreational swim. We love visiting Darwin & Palm City Resort is always our first choice for accommodation & gold star service from current staff. Thank you one & all for making our Darwin visits "extra special". We can't wait to return! ***** : ) : )

The Tropical Villas were awesome. the outside area with table and chairs was where we spent a lot of time. The pool area was great with heaps of chairs and shade, the pool bar was a bonus and the cocktails delicious. The location was probably as good as you can get in Darwin. Close to beach, waterfont district, bars and shops.

we had a villa near the road so was probably a bit noisier than the internal villa's, but nothing really bad. The toilet in the bathroom was pretty cramped and the cooktop in the kitchen was not really necessary (we didnt us it at all )

the pool was lovely and warm. I hate a cold pool so we were able to swim at night as well. Spent a lot of time there. So social with everyone so friendly. The room itself was a little small but was enough for us and the bed was comfortable. Small kitchenette with cooking facilities so easy to make dinner instead of buying it. Saved a few dollars that way. Reasonably close to the town to walk so location wasn't bad.

Expensive to wash and dry clothes. Token for the machines was $6 per wash/dry and extra again for the washing powder. Seems pretty standard though. And the kitchen was very small so hard to put any groceries and food items away effectively. Bathroom was also a bit tiny. No room to put toiletries. The palm trees were dropping fronds etc on the roof which was a tad noisy.
